China City

Terrible service. Took over an hour and a half to get my food delivered when i live 10 minutes down the street. It says on the menu that orders over $ 10.00 are free delivery but i was still charged for delievery after ordering $ 11.00 worth of food before tax was added. Portions are tiny! Will NOT be going back again. Don’t waste your time

China City is hands down the best Chinese in Cortland. Hot, quick, affordable, and delicious. They’re also open late into the night on weekends.
Definitely a good call. Waayyy better than Big Hunan.

I was sad to have moved out of Cortland shortly after this place opened. We quickly became regulars here as it is clearly the best Chinese-​style takeout that Cortland has ever had, and it’s the best I’ve had anywhere in the area. They have a clean kitchen, and the owner is extremely friendly, and accomodating.
They prepare the food amazingly fast, and it’s always hot, and fresh. Even fried items are deliciously light. I think they must actually change their fryer oil regularly. They go the extra mile to please their customers. They have allowed me to put my own stamp on their dishes numerous times when I wanted different or additional ingredients than what was listed. I have even seen them cook special peppers that a customer picked and brought in, and incorporate them into his dish.
I love that they put napkins in the baggie with your eggrolls to soak up the excess oil. I can’t say enough good things about this place. The only negatives I can come up with are their lack of delivery service when they initially opened. But they very quickly rectified that. Also ordering over the phone can be a challenge if you don’t call when the owner is working. Most everyone else is pretty hard to understand. But I never got a wrong order. It isn’t revolutionary, nor gourmet, but it is of consistent quality, and it is done right.

This is my favorite go-​to Chinese place in Cortland. China City offers standard Americanized Chinese take-​out fare. It iis the best of the rest in this area. The vegetables are always crisp and fresh, and I’ve found that’s rare from the other local Chinese restaurants in the area. My boyfriend loves their curry chicken and I tend to order kung pao shrimp or chicken with cashews. My only complaint is that the rice tends to be regularly undercooked.
China City does mostly take-​out, but they do have six or eight tables available within the establishment which are great when you want to stop for a quick lunch while running errands.
When we call ahead for takeout and the food is usually hot and ready 15 minutes later! Make sure you allow yourself enough wait time if you order during the busy dinner and lunch hours, especially if you have a short lunch break. Call in advance to avoid a wait!

Cortland has a long history of bad Chinese food (So bad I go to Syracuse when I want Chinese), and while this place isn’t as bad as the rest of the Chinese restaurants in the area it’s not a great place either.
China City offers that stand fare you’d find at any other Chinese take out: an assortment of dishes, low priced combos, and large portions. The prices are reasonable, the place clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the food is nothing to draw you in.
Don’t get me wrong; in terms of Chinese food offered in Cortland this place makes the best. However the General Tso’s chicken didn’t taste like I expected. It was more like an Orange chicken flavor and had no discernible flavor to speak of. Everything was cooked as I expected and the rice was ok, but the flavor produced a big «meh».
If you want Chinese in Cortland this is the best place you’ll find. But if you want decent Chinese you’re still stuck going to Syracuse. Shame too; I really like Chinese and had high hopes for this place.
