This place was subpar. The«dog area» is a small strip of dirt and weeds with a hose running thru it at the far back end of parking lot with no light. My dog got a sticker in his paw. There was no elevator. The room was hot and smelly. I called the front desk and asked for extra pillows and she said she would see what she could do. Never heard back from her. Bathroom was tiny. The towels in the bathroom were stained. At least I hope that was a stain and not a used one. From what I have read from other posts this place is perfect for winos and scum. I would not stay here again and would tell others to stay away.

Pro: 1,10 miles to Mesa Verde National Park. 2. Standard motel amenities and clean. 3. TV has AMC channel which was replaying«The Walking Dead» I missed on Sunday. 4. Free breakfast: I normally don’t eat breakfast but since it’s in the middle of nowhere a small town called Cortez, eating breakfast is essential for road warriors. The breakfast is served in a small room where the vending machine located with few tables. There’s waffle machine to make your own waffle. 2 types of cereal, Toast(wheat and white) wrapped in zipper bag. Yogurt. Good enough for a quick breakfast before hitting the road. The nice lady works there will chat with you while you eat. Con: 1,Parking lot is really dark even it’s just in front of the motel and you can see your car from your window.(If your room facing this side). It’s kind creepy while we were cleaning the car around midnight and having a cigarette then noticed there’s a guy sitting inside a pick up truck in the parking lot. Mind you it was a 30 degree raining night. I actually moved my car a little bit to the front of motel office after my first parked a little further side. That’s the main reason I won’t recommend staying here if you are female travel alone.(I had my German turtle protection so I wasn’t worry) Anyway, we had two bikes in the car and no one steal it during our 2 days stay. 2, It’s just beside the Main street so the noise from street become quite noticeable at night. 3. No elevator. But this doesn’t really bother me. You only carry your luggage up and down once anyway. Cortez isn’t that small so there’s plenty of options for lodging. I would try something different next time when I am in town.
