Taqueria Alteno # 3

Searching for a little spice for breakfast while visiting Corpus Christi, we decided to try this place who, according to my son and daughter-​in-​law, has a variety of very tasty tacos. Instead of driving through and grabbing tacos, as they had done, we chose to sit down with the whole family and have a leisurely Sunday meal. We were not disappointed.
The parking lot was very crowded (the first good sign) and the lobby full of folks waiting for tables. The line moved quickly and after about 10 minutes we were escorted to our table. We ordered a sausage and egg burrito, al pastor and chicken gizzard tacos, chilaquiles, menudo, a potato and eggs plate and a traditional American plate of pancakes, eggs and bacon.
Notables: great service– our server was kind, friendly and just the right balance of attentive and respectful of our family time. The gizzard tacos were amazingly tender crisp and the menudo was rich and clean tasting. Sausage in the burrito was spicy and full of flavor. Al Pastor taco meat was rich and savory. Pancakes done right. Thick homemade flour tortillas, tasty salsas and perfectly simple frijoles complimented our meals.

Second time here… came with a group. Waitress couldn’t understand any english speaking customers so I knew there could be a problem. One of the customers held the menu up and pointed at their menu… they still got the wrong plate. I did the same thing and spoke the item (tres tacos) out loud… and *i* got the wrong plate.
When the THREE TACOS did arrive, they were oozing of grease. Dripping. By the time I was trying to get through the second taco, the shell was falling apart due to the grease. Fuggetabout the third one. no way that was coming off the plate in one piece. The taste wasn’t anything to write home about either.
If you’re in a part of town where it’s mostly speaking english, make sure your staff can understand them. Otherwise, expect a high percentage of sendbacks and customer dissatisfaction.

Good food and inexpensive. We go there for breakfast sometimes. The service is fast and the coffee good. They do not skimp on the taquitos. Service is friendly. The best thing I like about this Mexican restaurant is the cozy atmosphere.

My family has been coming here for years. Everything is good. Breakfast taquitoes are awesome. Great specials, inexpensive, friendly service.
