I recently celebrated my wedding this past December and had my reception here at Chez Loma. The food was fantastic and the ambiance was beautiful. They did a fantastic job and was on top of the service!

Chez Loma… twice in 3 days!!! I had heard about Chez Loma’s wonderful happy hours via many locals, but it just didn’t dawn on me to try their weekend brunch until very recently! We made a reservation on Open Table for a Sunday brunch@12:30pm… Started off w/a refreshing mimosa and shared an appetizing blueberry pancake that was perfectly paired with an amazing caramelized syrup! I ordered a Salmon Benedict and he tried the Chilaquiles… and we finally finished the meal sharing another sweet treat, a delectable crème brûlée. I enjoyed and savored every delicious bite of this meal… wonderful elegant/homey ambience… and their friendly service was spot-on! Two days later, I returned with my daughter for a happy hour meal before our Sam Smith concert date that evening… and discovered their lovely outdoor seating in the back patio that extends behind the porch bar area. On this warm day, we both decided on some white wine and ordered two $ 10 food specials, a house bacon burger w/Gruyère or blue cheese on an egg bun w/pomme frites and their famous roasted duck tacos. A decadent chocolate pot de crème w/sambuca cream rounded out this yummy-licious meal. French bistro food at its finest… and affordable as I also redeemed my «Be our guest with Fox 5» deals that I purchased back in February($ 50 for $ 25) at both meals!

So this was our second visit this year. We were much less impressed this time unfortunately. We ordered filet and salmon. The filet is better at Costco and I have eaten much better filet at places that cost much much less. The sauce on the filet was sort of sweet and not tasteful at all. The salmon was a little too fishy. Didn’t taste that well. Leaving the skin on the salmon is a no no for me. The service was slow. Wasn’t impressed at all this time. I feel that I wasted $ 93. I could of just used this money to buy more Christmas presents instead.

Delicious, romantic, quaint. This was the perfect dinner. If you’re looking for a guaranteed 5 star meal/experience, look no further. Thank you Sabrina! Lobster bisque, foie gras, rib eye, filet mignon, and crème brûlée!

Great food and terrific service provided by Sabrina. Loved the bread, escagot, beet salad, lobster bisque, pork cheeks, chilean sea bass, and the ginger bread. Charming old house that felt warm and inviting. Great staff. Overall, a wonderful dinner.

The perfect place for a special family dinner! My family(a group of 14) visited Coronado to celebrate four decade birthdays, including my grandpa’s 90th birthday! I scheduled the private room in the upstairs of Chez Loma, assuming it would be quiet enough for my grandparents to hear. It was perfect — the windows were open and there was a really nice breeze sweeping through the quaint house — and it was just a short walk from the Hotel Del Coronado. The service was phenomenal. Our waiter, Dan, was incredibly friendly, attentive and made us feel right at home. My only complaint is that it took a little while, which I think would’ve been easier if he had a little more support. Not sure how that all works, but I would suggest that they have two waiters for a group this large so that the food can be brought out quicker. The slowness is the only reason I have 4 stars, but know that is no reflection of Dan’s performance; he did great. Speaking of food: the food was delicious! We set the menu in advance, which included the following. Appetizer: soup(which was apparently delicious) or a caesar salad(I had it, it was crisp and refreshing). Entrée: salmon(incredible, great portion and sides) or short rib(apparently delicious, though most of us ordered the fish) and finally a choice of dessert: gingerbread cake(smelled delectable) or a personal crème brûlée(which I had — it was cooked perfectly and I highly recommend). All in all, our food was a huge hit, and I would recommend anything on that list. The whole experience was one for the books. We were able to laugh and tell old stories like we were sitting in our own dining room table. Everyone could hear each other(which never happens at restaurants) and the vibe was perfect for our family. I highly recommend the upstairs of Chez Loma for a private event! Thanks for a great night!

My first low rating… hate to do this, especially as the food was good. Not extraordinary, but good. Our French onion soup, three beets salad, boeuf bourguignon, and Chilean sea bass were delicious. The problem? Why such a low rating? It took FOREVER to taste these delectables. First, we were seated at the worst table in the house. We did not complain, as we were starving and were simply happy to get a table, — given that we were early for our reservation. The restaurant that evening was only half full, so we feel there was no reason to seat us at such an inferior table. Inferior it was, though. Our table was stuck against a wall in a crowded, hot and extremely stuffy room facing the kitchen. Oh well. We have dined at Chez Loma previously, so we were still eager to savor some French food. Not. We sat, with only water, for over twenty minutes. We saw a waitress duck in and out of the kitchen, breezing past us at least 15 times. Never once did she acknowledge us. I waived a few times. To no avail. I assumed she was not our waitress. Well, lo and behold, she suddenly wakes up to fact that we do exist and does the usual, «I’ll be taking care of you tonight.» We were 30 seconds from getting up and leaving. About time. From there, she was fairly good. Still. For the price(we also ordered a very dear bottle of wine) … we expect great service from the beginning. If she was really that busy, all she needed to do was to simply acknowledge us; «I will be with you shortly. Can I get you something to drink in the meantime? Would you like some bread?» We are patient people, but when dining out, we expect basic courtesy. It was just bizarre. We really could not believe it. If you read my other reviews, you will find that I am rarely negative. This experience just blew me away… in not a good way.

had to pressure my old lady into the foie gras & tartare apps as her meal but she said that they were great. My bouillabaisse was good and the place was very«French.» Lovely place.

This place is fabulous. French cuisine in a casual atmosphere with a great wine list and excellent service. The escargot was delicious and our server guided us through a menu filled with delights.

This is by far one of the best finds of our San Diego trip. If you never had French before, you could maybe«not know what the fuss is» However, if you like French cuisine please go and try!!! One of the best French onion soups I have had in the US(many places in the US that serve French onion soup make it VERY salty). The restaurant has a home like feel and the food is exquisite. I tried pepper fillet mignon and my wife the sea bass. Both amazing! And the service was also very very good. Thank you and we will be back for sure

Very good food presentation. We had an escargot, filet and a chilean sea bass. We also had some deserts with capuchino. Lets go back to the sea bass. Mmmmmmm… It is a must. I am a big foodie. Trust me on this one. The ambiance — 100% french The service — 5* I would totally go back

Maybe I’ll be the first to say that I don’t get what the fuss is about? $ 160 later and we left really confused… And still hungry. To celebrate our 3 year anniversary we wanted to something we’ve both never had before so ok French cuisine it is— we were SO excited to try Chez Loma so, we made a reservation on open table. Our waiter was great– full of suggestions and a fun personality but the rest of the staff was totally lacking,(if your spending that much on a meal you should have a full water glass) the hostess and food runner didn’t even crack a smile We started with the escargot because, I mean why not? The flavor was great, but we honestly don’t have anything to compare it to because it was our first time. But, we were really happy with it! For entrees my other half had the duck and i had the filet mignon. The portions were absurd for the price. Literally a piece of meat — 4TINY medallions of duck with a few cauliflower florets and a dry filet mignon with a side of over steamed green beans and potatoes. We did get a complimentary crème brule for celebrating our anniversary but even that wasn’t that great. Living in the neighborhood we can say we tried it but– we won’t be going back…

I had a birthday celebration at Chez Loma recently and it was a fantastic success, thanks in large part to the staff of the restaurant and our server, Stan! I cannot even begin to express how impressed I was with Chez Loma — everything from the food to the service was first class. The atmosphere was classic, french, sophisticated. Every single guest in our party enjoyed their meal immensely. We were given the upper room to ourselves(complete with it’s own small staging kitchen area and bathroom), and allowed to decorate things as much as we wanted(aside from nailing things into the wall). We brought in our own floral arrangements and table accessories, and when we arrived, the restaurant had all of our tables set up and helped us arrange a few more things. What a beautiful room! Stan had the lofty job of serving 15 discerning women, all of whom had numerous breakfast cocktails! There was not a single mistake in our service, and Stan(and his assistant Kylie) were there when we needed them, yet never seemed to hover ~ the perfect service! We never«wanted» for anything but were never bothered, either. Chez Loma accommodated us in every way possible, including facilitating our element of surprise for the birthday guest… They even brought out a crème brûlée with a candle in it(on the house). Chez Loma is the whole package — I would have happily paid three times as much to receive the same service and food standard, and I cannot believe how the restaurant bent over backwards to accommodate us. All of my guests left happy and impressed, having had a beautiful brunch. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. Thanks Stan, for taking perfect care of us, and helping make our party such a fantastic event! Now considering this venue for a wedding reception! I would like to note that living in the city of San Francisco, this restaurant would hold it’s own against the elite brunch crowd of a leading culinary city. Duly impressed on all fronts. ***TIP: Please note that if you were to do an event here, reservations in serious advance will do you very well. I made reservations 3 months out. Also: Request Stan. You’ll be all the better.

Honey and I spent our weekend in Coronado. We chose Chez Loma for our date night and were lucky enough to reserve a table at our desired time on a Saturday night. Plus, Chez Loma was a 30 second walk from our hotel. Super! The restaurant is separated into a dining area, upstairs, and bar area. It’s like a house turned restaurant – cute, quaint, and seems to attract regulars/locals. The bar area serves as a wait area if you don’t want to sit on the porch. You could also seat yourself in the bar to eat off of the same dinner menu. We were luckily seated in Sabrina’s section. She was very thorough and exuded a very approachable cool attitude. I can see why some would specifically request her. We started with the MUSSELS A LAMARINIERE and ESCARGOT. Both starters were undoubtedly some of the best I’ve ever had. The Escargot was prepared in an oil/garlic sauce that was too good to not take bread and dunk it in. The Mussels a la Mariniere was also just as great that we drowned our fries in the white wine reduction. Honey went back to the pictures through the rest of the weekend to just drool over it. The star dish of the night was the CHILEANSEABASS. When you take your first bite and your mind goes into a haze where you start seeing the heavens, you know it is something amazing. As a big foodie, I was literally mind-blown. Mind-blown I tell you! Seared crispy on one side, but still melts in your mouth with a the crunch of sliced almonds. I couldn’t make sense of it. I have never felt this way about food before. Honey took a couple bites of it and also thought it was out-of-this-world. A MUST for anytime I’m in the area. Heck, I’d drive 2 hours just to eat here! Honey had the SCOTTISHSALMON. Although it was delicious itself, it didn’t compare after you’ve taken a bite of the Chilean Sea Bass. The salmon was lightly seasoned, seared skin-on leaving it with a yummy crispy layer served on a small bed of mashed potatoes, cherry tomatoes and asparagus spears. I am in awe and more than pleased with Chez Loma. I’ve still been thinking and dreaming of their food since my return to Orange County. I can’t wait to come back. Actually, WE can wait to come back!

Sabrina definitely made us feel at home from the amazing hospitality, thoughtful service, helpful ideas, really attentive, very friendly, and funny while being respectable. I was highly impressed by her. Not only that but the quaint little dinning rooms were cute. The atmosphere was relaxed to romantic. I was a little taken back by the fact it seemed like we were in a house that seemed converted into a restaurant, but by the end, I loved it because it made the time there feel more home-like and comforting. Not only that but the food was spot on amazing. It was worth every single penny. I was very impressed on how delicious each part of the meal was from the sides to the sauces to the main attraction on the plate. Furthermore, each dish was so well balanced from textures to flavor that I was very impressed and can’t wait to come back again. Onto the food: Escargot: The best escargot I’ve ever had. My friend who didn’t even like escargot loved it. This was exactly how Sabrina described it. A delicious amount of buttery garlic goodness with an added flavor of escargot and sweet breads. It was fresh and less strong tasting which made it taste even better. I would tell anyone to not be deterred from trying this as an entryway to trying escargot and sweetbreads. There was a perfect blend of flavors that I would highly recommend to anyone! If I were to describe escargot, it’s similar to a light liver taste but not as pungent but definitely has a savory flavor. Not only that but add in perfectly cooked quartered mushrooms, nice thinly sliced asparagus, minced shallots, and minced garlic. Overall this was a really nice blend of flavors from bitter to sweet, salty to savory, and tender to crispy. I loved this! Bread: Ode to the bread! Someone told me once you can tell how great a place is from their bread. If that was the case then I’d be over with this bread. This bread was amazing. I knew my meal was over with this bread. Nice mini loaves of bread that tasted fresh and warm with a crispy crunchy crust and a fluffy white inside. Yum. What were you doing to me bread? You were ruining my meal by feeding me with your goodness. Or should I blame myself for not being able to stop eating it? Tartare of beef: I definitely enjoyed this dish as well! The tender small bites of raw beef was amazing. Overall, it was slightly creamy, pretty pickled and salty. The beef was accented by minced dill pickles, light cream, minced cilantro, minced onion, micro greens, thyme, and minced dill. This was accompanied by perfectly cooked crispy shoestring fries(golden brown on the outside and soft on the inside) that was topped with light salt, Parmesan, and minced parsley. Overall it was good altogether. This was amazing to try and was overall perfectly executed but it was did not tend toward my general taste so I probably will stick to ordering a different appetizer. Chilean Sea Bass: Soft, flaky, and buttery goodness on a plate? Count me in! Perfectly cooked sea bass with sweet white pureed cauliflower, buttery sweet asparagus, fresh sweet tangy tangerine slices, and slivered roasted almonds. There was a nice herb onion vinegar tang, a slight nutty taste, and a slight bitterness. There was a perfect blend of textures from the crunch of the slivered almonds, to the soft textures of the fish, to the fresh tang of the orange, to the buttery flavor of the fish. There was so much balance in this dish that I just absolutely felt like I went to food heaven. Loved it! Venison Striploin: Perfectly cooked venison with a slight bitter crunch of the red cabbage to softer sweet beet chunks. Overall there was a nice tangy ans sweet flavor that was balanced by the sweetness of the date purée. This was amazingly executed. I loved this one too! Crème brûlée: A perfect classic dessert with a creamy texture and light vanilla taste that was lightened by fresh strawberry slices. A nice eggy and creamy yet surprisingly light with the nice amount of heaviness of a custard with a nice caramelized crust. Nothing more you can expect from a nicely executed classic crème brûlée with an ample amount of vanilla bean. Yum. Overall, this was an amazing meal that I can’t wait to come back to visit! I found this place by finding a Half Price San Diego Deal and now this is one of my top spots to eat at in San Diego. I loved the quality of the food and service and the comfortable atmosphere. I will be back again soon! This was worth every single penny! I am so glad I found this place!

A wonderful, cozy little house of a restaurant with exceptional food, service, and ambience. This is the perfect venue for a date or anniversary. Sabrina is our favorite, and always takes such great care of us! She greets us with warm smiles and hugs, and has been calling us by name since our first visit. She makes sure that we never have to wait long for food or beverages. We also sincerely appreciate her food recommendations, all of which have been right on the mark. The food is delicious! I’m a big fan of the salmon, and my girlfriend loves the boeuf bourguignon. The spinach arugula salad is a great way to start. Save room for the gingerbread cake dessert, though. Even though it contains zero chocolate, it is not to be missed. The perfect end to a perfect evening at Chez Loma. It’s not on the menu, but the chefs are happy to make a wonderful vegetarian entrée on request. I’ve ordered it several times, and the results are always innovative, tasty, and often so beautiful a presentation I feel like eating it would be defacing a masterpiece. I get over that quickly, though! The restaurant is cozy and intimate, often featuring authentic French music or French versions of American songs, such as «Dream a Little Dream of Me» by the Mamas and Papas. I like some of them better than the original, even though the only French I know is Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Peugeot, Citroen, merci, c’est la vie, and s’il vous plait.

The environment of this place is so cute and so adorable. You feel like you’re inside a little French house having dinner. Tables inside are much more romantic than the ones outside. The food here is a French + a little American style. This mean the portion is neither the dinky tiny French plate style nor large chunky American plate style; it’s a combination of both~ You’re lost? Me too. It’s basically enough too fill you, but not large enough to stuff you and have left over to go. Ordered: 1. Escargot: the flavor of the escargot is just divine. They cooked it in an garlic infused olive oil and butter. Get some bread to soak all the amazon flavor and taste into your tummy. 2. Winter Fish Stew: It’s a perfect dish for any night, especially when yore right next to the ocean. The broth soup was a shrimp infused soup base with lots of fish and scallop in it. The fish and scallop were cook perfectly and the soup was just amazing. Again, I would highly suggest getting extra bread to dip in it too. 3. Chilean Sea Bass: It’s cooked so well that the fish simply melts in your mouth. It’s so delicious, so yummy, so you must get. To balance the soft texture of the fish, the chef cut pieces of Chinese broccoli steam as a pairing; interesting twist to french food. Tip: There is a very limited number of seats available, so make sure you make reservation early.
