I’m glad I tried Rancho Mofongo on a whim, but I won’t be coming back. The dish I had was spot-on, but the service and atmosphere were negative– I expected better from both. Rancho Mofongo tries to be too much at once: a restaurant, hookah bar, and lounge all in one, but doesn’t succeed at it. I’ll explain this at the end of my review. I tried Rancho Mofongo’s $ 25 seafood and lobster dish, which tasted fresh and soft. The orange colored broth/sauce definitely added just the right amount of taste, and I’m glad this wasn’t fried. I enjoyed this at the bar, and was watching the Warriors vs Spurs NBA game on one of their old-school TVs, whose screen gave the televised motion pictures a nice vintage look. My waitress letting me change the channel to watch this game was a plus.(I’ve been mentioning NBA games a lot in my recent reviews, because I’ve been frequenting restaurants and bars while following the Warriors to their record-breaking 73rd win.) I liked how funky and interesting the decorations were: multicolored strobe lights, four TV screens(including one high definition one), and a hip vibe. I wish I knew in advance, though, that this place is also a hookah bar– two people sitting at the other end of the bar were smoking hookah, and they were the only ones doing so. While the smell wasn’t horrible(it was sweet), it bothered me since it was strong, so I changed seats in the middle of my stay while watching the basketball game. My server took the time to tell me her recommendations on the menu. But I felt flustered that she forgot that I ordered flan for dessert, and didn’t apologize for that: I waited 20+ minutes for the flan to come out after ordering it. At that point, I told the other host(not my own server) that I had been waiting awhile for the flan, and asked her to check up on it. Then, my own server came up to me and said, «My co-worker said you needed something?» I looked at her in disbelief and wondered how she forgot my dessert order. So I ended up telling her to cancel my order, and got dessert somewhere else. Also: the music that played in the store suddenly became super loud at the end of my stay in the restaurant /at the end of the basketball game. A customer in the back was dancing next to someone at the laptop computer where the music was coming from, and I hated the shrill noise of the music– whoever cranked up the volume clearly didn’t care about the other customers in the restaurant, which is why I left quickly. My night at Rancho Mofongo started off okay, but became dramatically worse as time went on. It’s cool that I enjoyed it one time, and that’ll be the only time.

I live in the neighborhood and always noticed this place but never gave it a try until last weekend. I just want to say that I am Dominican and this place is 100% on point with the flavors, food etc. The food was really good, the portions are good too. Just keep in mind that since you are eating Mofongo(made of plantain) it’s a heavy plate, 2 people can share. The atmosphere is really dominican, from the music to the decorations. I will consider coming back to eat here anytime. The place is good for groups or even a date. Service was ok it can be better since the waitresses don’t give you much explanation about the food unless you ask. Ex: I had the Rancho Fongo that comes with skirt steak, I was never asked how I wanted the meat but like I said before I don’t mind, the food was delicious. Next time I go I will take pictures of some of the food.

Let me start off by saying that I had to come try this place based off the pictures I’ve seen. A group of 4 of us came here tonight, I must say everything was delicious. Our server, Taty was very attentive towards our table and gave excellent service. I ordered the mofonguitos. They came in 3 flavors(shredded beef, chicharon and shrimp). Each one was rich in flavor but my personal favorite was the shrimp mofonguito. My mom ordered the monfongo de pollo in a rich cheese sauce. I tasted it and it was delicious! Full of flavor, it left my taste buds wanting more. The 2 others ordered the churasco and as sides rice and beans. The churasco was very juicy and each bite was amazing. The beans was a personal favorite of mine. I enjoyed every bit of this dining experience and can’t wait to come back soon. The owner was very nice and offered us shots of whisky at the end of our meal. Perfect way to top off our dinner! If you’re in the Corona, queens area this place is a must try.

First thing I noticed at 7:30pm on a Saturday night: it was dead. Second thing I noticed: the waitresses barely speak any English. I repeated myself at least five times, saying I needed a table for 7, before I was understood. Ordering was not easy going either. We came for a birthday dinner and the service was so slow, despite how empty it was. When our food finally did come out, everything was cold. The mofongos did not disappoint however, and it seems like each one comes with a different sauce-the pollo mofongo was crack because it came with a cheesy one. The steak came with a gravy-like sauce. My steak was completely cold although it was marinated well. Half of us who ordered the steak had steaks twice as large as the other halves, meaning they need to work on equal portion sizes. Pass on the sangria– had a weird aftertaste. The mojitos were decent but we had to wait for them– the waitress said she had to go buy the ingredients?

Not bad but I’ve definitely had better. Came hungry and l left full and in the grand scheme of things I guess that is the objective. Nice place with great Latin music playing. Service was wonderful, but then again I was the only person in there for at least half of my meal, but I digress. Awesome selection of Dominican style food, I’m sure you will not leave unhappy it’s just that as a native Puerto Rican I eat this cuisine all the time so it has to put me in a «Perpetual state of mind blowness“to get 5 stars. That said finding a place like this while traveling is a joy. Unilocal does it again. If you’re in the area come and enjoy.

You won’t regret eating here. The food is absolutely excellent! I came here with my family(2 year old daughter and pregnant wife). When you walk in its a bit of a shocker because it’s very dark and looks less like a restaurant and more like a night club. They had lazer lights, loud music and only dudes at the bar and it was 2pm on a Sunday. So I almost walked right back out as I feared this place not being very family friendly. Once inside the waitresses greeted us well and offered us something to drink. I began noticing it looking less shady the more the waitress spoke. We decided to stay, shortly after the DJ lowered the music to a more acceptable volume and we ordered our food. There arent enough words to describe the amazing quality of their food. Whatever this place doesn’t have in family atmosphere they make up with their dishes. The chef must have had some culinary training because the food is unbelievable. Because I am a foodie; my dish has left a permanent mark and I will never forget this place. Cannot wait to come back. BESTMOFONGOEVER!

Went with a large crowd. Made reservations 5 days before so they would have time to prepare. They were unprepared day of and waitress was unprofessional. Food, that was prepared correctly, was decent BUT, their was too much error and uncooked or even overcooked food that really stood out over anything that may have been good. Will not be retuning.

They try too hard to innovate with the mofongo and end up creating a mediocre dish. Cream sauce on mofongo don’t work, especially if you leave out the garlic from the mofongo. Too bad. Had high hopes for this place.

We stopped here randomly because we left LGA at rush hour on a Friday(ugh) and wanted to have dinner while we waited out the traffic to NJ. What a gem! The food is delicious, the music is so festive. It feels like sitting in a locals spot on vacation in the Caribbean. I highly recommend. I ordered the Mexifongo and it was a huge portion and came with a whole sliced avocado. As a vegetarian, I was super pleased with it.

I got delivery and the food was great! I got the shrimp entrée and salmon entrée. I’d rate the shrimp entrée 5 stars and the salmon 3.9 stars. I’d buy both again. The prices are extremely reasonable. The delivery guy gave me free drink coupons so I went to the bar the next day to use it. The bar is beautiful. Everything looks new and the light show creates a really fun atmosphere. The music was very upbeat and seemed like a great place to hang out. I drank for free :)

I came here twice on my first visit I gave the place a 4 stars. The 4 stars because of the drinks(bartender slash waiter young Venezuela lady, pretty, nice but not sure about her bartending skills) were just no Bueno but the food was on point with the exception of dessert. The food was fresh, tasty and just perfect. For appetizer my husband and I had guacamole which came a complained with tostones and chips. The guacamole was fresh and had the right amount of jalapeños it was amazing. We also had mofongitos for appetizer, the mofongo was not dry which was a super plus it comes with three flavors chicken, beef and shrimp all three amazing juicy and tasty. For dinner I had the rancho salad amazing!!! it comes with plátano maduro(fried yellow plantains), avocado, fried cheese, Sausage, lettuce, tomato and cucumber it was perfect! My husband had the churrascos steak perfectly cooked. Dessert we had flan it was just to eggy and seemed it was not done there because it was taken out of a plastic container which looks brought from a bakery lol. I gave it 4 on my first visit July 17 because of the flan and the no BUENO drinks. Yesterday I tried it again had an older Dominican Lady as our server the sweetest lady ever and she made our drinks. Now we wanted to try it again because the food was just so good and wanted to give it another chance GUeSS what the drinks were perfect!!! We ate the same thing and was on point. The food was as good as we had experienced in our first visit and now with the drinks perfectly made we had to give this place a 5 Star. we excluded the dessert lol I will be returning!!!

First time here, and what a breath of fresh air. The mofongo was absolutely delicious, tried the mexifongo(amazing) and the chicharron fongo was equally delicious. The plates had a nice presentation and the mofongo was not dry at all, quite the opposite. If you’re close by you must absolutely stop by, hope you enjoy as much as I did.

This place is outstanding. We all had mofongo, three of the chicharone style and one of the chicken brittany style. They all had a great texture, not at all dry, and very flavorful. We also had the Rancho Monfongo salad, with greens, pineapple, and mango(or was it papaya?). In either case, it was great. The flan was also good — firm and tasty. There was a slight mixup in our order but they quickly resolved it. Excellent food, friendly service — what more could you want?

The food was phenomenal. I ordered from here after being disappointed by many of the other Dominican restaurants in the area. I was excited because the menu was a little different and had a nice twist on some typical dishes. We ordered the shrimp mofongo and a chef special with chicken, guava and garlic. Both dishes were amazing! Texture of mofongo is key — and this was perfect. The chicken was a mix of sweet and savory and unlike anything I have had before. Both were delicious. I cannot wait to order from here again!
