This would have been an awesome event if a) the 7 trains were more reliable and b) if the weather was not so humid. The Queens 10K used to be a half marathon but they switched to 10K because obviously, the weather is usually pretty extreme around this time of the year. Yesterday was my second Queens 10K and yes it was tough. To be honest, I’d rather run a full marathon in 40 – 50 degree weather than the 10K in 100% humidity. The forecast in the weather was supposed to be a heavy downpour in the morning so they delayed the start for an hour. However, it turned out to be just overcast. Not a single drop of rain fell upon us. Nonetheless, given the weather conditions, I wish mother nature rained on my overheated and sweat drenching body. The other issue I have is I think there is just way too many people for this event given how narrow the course is. In the beginning, I felt like it was an obstacle course because I kept dashing over puddles and I tried to pass those people who apparently decided to walk at mile 0.3(:rolls eyes:). Anyway, at least the medal is nice.

I’m not a runner. No. I’m one of those people who wear fancy workout clothes and get out of breath after a minute of «running». So why did I sign up for this? I wanted a fancy medal! Of course, the one year that I signed up for this, they decided NOT to give out medals and to give out tech T-shirts instead. I guess I’ll wear my tech tshirt instead of a medal while training for my next race. It was pretty cool running past the unisphere, museum, fountain(which did not run this year — what, are they getting cheap with water too?!). Mile 1. This is good. I’m gonna keep running. Yeah. I’m almost at mile 2. Mile 2. Okay I did a mile. I’m gonna slow down a bit. Yeah. Mile 3. Why did I sign up for this again? Oh right, the medal. Yes. I’ve done 5Ks before, I can do this. Mile 4. LALALALALALALALALALALA Mile 5. Wait. Am I done with mile 5 or did I just start it? Where am I? I’m so confused. HEYTHEY’REPLAYINGMYJAM!!!(Backstreet boys) Mile 6. I’M DONE I’M DONE I’M DONE!!! Where the heck is the finish line??? Oh… 10K is 6.2 miles… WHYISTHIS0.2MILESSOLONG!!! Finish line. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I’m not doing this again. …Who am I kidding, I’ll sign up again next year.

Flushing makes me think of dim sum. Who knew I would be running a 10k here instead of eating dim sum? The course was relatively flat which was nice. It was hot, but not too hot, I am thankful they had water sprinklers along the course so we could cool down. I wish they had gatorade at the water stops, there was only gatorade after you had crossed the finish line. I saw several people feeling really upset that there were no medals. I also wished they gave out bottled water after we had crossed the finish line, at least they had a water station where you could grab as many cups of water as you wanted but I would like some water to go.

This is a good race in an under-appreciated NYC park. The 2013 race was a lot of fun and the temperature was even a little cooler this year. I even turned in my fastest competitive 10K time, ever. One of the downsides is the ever increasing overcrowding issue that plagues these runs. It’s a little annoying to be bumped into by many people. Give me some space, man. Another issue(my take) is not having the first water station right after the 1 mile marker. I think this should be a must, especially during what is probably the hottest run of the year. But overall, I like this fast and mostly flat run. Glad I ran it today and did well.
