Miss Kitty’s Old Time Photos is one of those places that could only exist in a tourist town. I mean how many days do you just wake up in your middle of nowhere town and think, «Man, I’d love to go get my picture taken as a roaring twenties flapper today.» None? Yeah, I thought so. Nearly a decade later and I personally still find great humor in the«portraits» I’ve had taken here with friends. Perhaps owning framed 8×10s of me as a pirate and me as an antebellum Southern belle might not have been the best investments, but they still both make me laugh to this day. I was looking at their website just now and noticed that they do pet portraits. Let it be known that if Madeline, my French Bulldog, were down here with me this time, we would totally be hitting up this tourist trap for a family photo. If you’re going to blow hard earned money on things like fudge, putt-putt, and OBX t-shirts, then you might as well go all out and get an old time photo taken while you’re at it.

I went here back in May and unlike the other two reviews, we had a great time! The costumes were great and the owner was a doll. He had us cracking up the entire time! It’s a little pricey, but welll worth it!

Our group of a dozen family members drove over to the Old Time Photo this evening to have a fun time. What we received was a true disappointment. Upon arrival, the two young ladies that were operating the shop tonight clearly did not want to be working and absolutely made what should have been a fun experience a sad, miserable experience. The level of rudeness, sarcasm, and down right verbal assault made me look around for a hidden camera. I thought it was a gag. They were down right mean to my six year old and openly mocked some of the older members of our group. Under no circumstance would I ever return… even if it were free… I the staff should be removed from their jobs immediately. The process of getting dressed was conduced without much attention to detail. If you choose to go here, prepare to be treated like cattle… at best. Some costumes were tossed around like trash and were sitting on the floor. The shoot itself was fine, but rushed. Don’t expect to be able to provide any input or special requests. If you ask to smile, you can expect to be belittled. The photo review was an absolute insult. All but a few ladies from our group were told to ‘leave’. No kidding. I was told to ‘get out sir’. Perhaps the woman thinks she was being cute or showing off the other other young lady. I never saw the photos until I got home. Now… let me say that earlier in the week, I brought my wife and children to the Old Time Photo across from the Dunes in Kill Devil Hills. This is a separate company that does not appear to be related. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. If you really want to have a photo taken… go there! They are kind, respectful, and care about what they do. Ironically, above the cash register, there is a sign that concluded with«…but most of all, have fun». Well, to the staff of this establishment, you have failed.
