Loved this place… we ate there 9 times in one week! Taco Stop is NOT the same!

Best breakfast burritos I’ve ever had. Oh, yeah, they’re closed. Some place called«Taco Stop» or something is going in. OBX just got a bit crappier.

Had lunch here yesterday. Fish taco and bean taco were delicious. Chicken burrito was very good, if a touch spicy. Cheese quesadilla was just ok. Grabbing food to go and eating on the sound by the whalehead club was great.

I could have sworn I’d written a review of this place earlier, but apparently not. We went to Corolla for a week last summer, and I checked Unilocal to see if there were any good places to eat in the area. Donkey Hotay’s got a good write-up, so I thought I’d check it out. I got the fish taco. Wow. So good. I’d never had a fish taco before then, and so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. It’s a blackened white fish(tilapia?), with a really good sauce, and some other taco-y bits. A little spicy, but incredible. I went back a few times during the week. Since then, I’ve tried getting fish tacos at a few places, but they’ve never even come close to living up to what I got at Donkey Hotay’s. The only thing I’m sad about is that they’re so far removed from my normal stomping grounds. I only get to Corolla once every six or seven years, and I figure that by the time I get down there next, this place will have blown up and everyone will know about them.(Don’t lose your charm when you explode, guys!)

As a native San Diegan, I’m usually a bit snobby about my burritos, especially my breakfast burritos. Luckily, Donkey Hotay’s came through with flying colors in the unlikeliest of locations. While in Corolla for my wedding, I pretty much expected the restaurants to be mediocre and appealing to tourists. I took a flier one hungry morning on Donkey Hotay’s after seeing they offered breakfast burritos. The staff was very friendly and personally cooked and delivered the«chorizo» burrito to me outside where I sat with my dog. He also delivered a container of their delicious, slightly spicy, very tangy salsa. The chorizo is in quotes as the use of chorizo is purely a straight translation, not the actual Mexican sausage. Instead, the burrito is egg with Jimmy Dean style crumbled breakfast sausage. Which is fine, but I was expecting Mexican style chorizo. Oh well, it still tasted good. For a very affordable price, this was a filling meal and a great start to the day. Whenever I make it back to Corolla, I’ll be sure to eat breakfast here again. One of the better options in the area.

Solid. We’re from San Francisco and had low expectations. But living in New York for the last year has been hard. It’s good to find decent Mexican food. Thank you.

Some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. I had fish tacos and a chicken quesadilla. Awesome! Queso is awesome, too!

Still delicious a year later! And the owner is so spirited and affable, and proud to use fresh ingredients. My companions commented that Chipotle burritos have conditioned them to larger portions, but the burritos are ideal for most appetites once a side of beans have also been consumed. My favorite Outer Banks lunch spot.

This little Mexican joint is great. You order inside and eat outside in the sunshine. There usually is a bit of a wait for the food, but its worth it. Everything is made fresh. On my four day trip to the Outer Banks I ate here twice and the reason why is the fish tacos. They are amazing crispy shells filled with seasoned blackened fish, a delicious sauce and overflowing with lettuce. I also recommend the rice pudding. Its super creamy with plump pieces of rice and sprinkled with cinnamon, but I have to warn you that its so good they often run out. And don’t forget about the addictively spicy delicious hot sauce. Oh man, it smells so good. I liked it so much that I bought a container of it to take home. I was going to give them only 4 stars because the beef and chicken tacos are just meh and super bland. However, with fish tacos that good they deserve 5 stars.

We usually try Mexican everywhere we travel to. Thus far, San Diego has had the best. It’s really hard to believe that there actually IS good food served in OBX. We have been coming here for years with friends and family and we typically cook out. Groceries can be easily accessed at one of the many markets in OBX. With this being said, it’s always nice to go out once in a while for a change of scenery and food. We just arrived yesterday for another week at OBX and decided to check Unilocal and see if anyone actually enjoyed some of the food here? To our surprise, Donkey Hotay’s came up and we were so happy that it did. This place is in the Corolla Light House shopping center where you can find ice cream, pizza, and surf shops. Donkey’s is a tiny take out Mexican restaurant with patio seating right in front. The restaurant itself is stand and wait for your food and it is very clean. We ordered the 2 Taco Platters(Fish & Chicken) and(Beans & Fish). These were some of «THEBEST» tacos we have ever tasted. I am not joking! The tacos range in price from $ 2 – 4 dollars which is not bad but boy are they worth it. The rice and beans that came with the platter was pretty tasty as well. We also ordered a ½ pint of guacamole and it was fantastic! The chips were a little salty but I am not complaining. We enjoyed the food so much we bought chicken, fish, and shredded beef burritos home. This place is a must have in OBX and you will not be disappointed. Full of flavor, very filling, and a great price.

Simple, but excellent food. The menu is limited to burritos and tacos with chicken, beef, fish, beans, and cheese. Good taste and quality. It’s highly spiced, so someone who likes bland food might have to work at finding the right combination. I can’t remember what was in it, but the breakfast burrito was good. Great for vegetarians. There’s no place to eat inside, but there are tables and umbrellas in the parking spot out front.
