Bartels Giant Burger

Pretty good burger and fries. We sat at the counter and the cook was really friendly. Cute little place and its always busy when I drive by!

This is a good place for fun, classic dive food. A retro burger shack, with thrift store décor, and the menu is simple and delicious! I love the onion rings and their dipping sauce. They have different special meal deals for every day of the week, so that is fun too. If you are vegetarian, they have a yummy veggie burger as well.
I am not from the country, so I also find it exotic and fun that it is nestled in the middle of nowhere. I like to share my burgers with the stray kitties running amuck, who are apparently treated well by the employees here as well. :)
I gave the place 4 stars, because the food isn’t unique or special, but it is good enough to frequent. Tasty food, good staff, I just love eating here. :)

We came in this Sunday afternoon to Bartels and it was not packed busy… Ordered a Giant burger with everything/​Pepperjack cheese and a Giant burger with everything/​American cheese. Skipped the fries this time, but they really do have great french fries. Sat outside again because it is so much cooler. The inside is quite small area, counter top seating and a few booths, it gets stuffy/​warm from all the cooking. Outside they have cafeteria style seating, with long tables and plenty of open space with Fresh air. We ended up meeting a nice couple from Los Molinos who sat next to us and having friendly conversation over lunch! Very sweet people :)
Our burgers came within 10 minutes and they were HUGE, a lot bigger than the Regular cheeseburger which was what I ordered last time! The bun is very soft, loved all the toppings, and the meat was juicy big portion! The meat was delicious quality flavor and cooked well done (they ask you how you want it cooked). Cheese was the best part because they actually put two slices, one under the patty and one on top of the patty, so yummy! All the toppings are cut perfectly, especially the lettuce which makes such a large burger easier to eat, but it was a bit messy too. I am glad I didn’t get the combo meal because the Giant burger was enough to fill me up.
The girl that took my order was nice and the girl who brought out the food was nice! She even came back with fry sauce and mustard. Overall, lunch tasted great and I really do enjoy their burgers and fries. Definitely will go back next time I am in the area or in the mood for a big juicy Giant burger. Prices are worth it… $ 5 – 10 per person depending on if you just order a burger or combo meal.

Having lived in the area for many years back in the day… even before the Mickey D’s, Jack-​in-​the-​Box, Wendy’s and all other national franchise chains… Bartel’s Giant Burger was (still is!) the place to get a hot, delicious hamburger and a basket of french fries!
i would highly recommend stopping in on your travels on I-​5 freeway and treat you and yours to a delicious meal!

Takes a few minutes to get your burger but the ingredients were fresh. Both the fries and the onion rings were crispy. Outdoor seating and indoor seating. I like that you could choose how you wanted your burger cooked. They also save sausages and chicken breast.

On the way for a mini road trip we ran into this unique fifties style diner. We both were hungry after traveling for the first few hours. May,(my wife) Unilocaled this place so we mapped it on the way on our mini road trip. It was easy to locate and it was right off the freeway (I-​5) heading towards Redding… I believe it’s right off the outskirts of Corning, Ca.
The place was a throw back of the 1950’s style hamburger joint /​diner. Upon arriving, I was expecting the «Fonz» to show up LOL. The place I think was a converted gas/​service station back in the day and they have patio seating outside. Was too hot to eat outside so we opted to wait for our order inside.
I had a regular cheese burger with the lack pepper cheese. I had everything on it and I was not disappointed. I expected old school, grease dripping, sloppy juicy burger and I got it. But was tasty. Pretty good for out of the way burger joint. If ever we get to travel to this side of the state again, I wouldn’t mind to dine here.

Quick dinner
On a mini July 4^th weekend getaway, Unilocaled a nearby place for dinner and led us to this burger joint. Took us back to 50’s /​60’s style with the U.S. flag proudly displayed outside. Nothing more American than having Old Glory waving. Inside is donned with plenty of roadster car photos. The counter has about ten bar stools. There are four other tables that seats up to 4 each. Outside is shaded and has plenty of seating. Actually, it looks like it was formerly a gas station and converted into a burger place.
Ordered the Giant Burger. Had everything in it except for onions. It was a huge burger, very tasty and filling. The fryer was temporarily out-​of-​order so we didn’t get a chance to taste their fries. Tip: check-​in Unilocal and receive a small cup of soda. There were two ladies working behind the counter and both were friendly. This must be a popular place for locals and road trip passersby as the place got full by the time we were done and left… good place to stop on Highway 5. Easy to find from the freeway. Restrooms are outside.

I haven’t had a great burger like these since I was growing up in Texas! I have eaten a lot of burgers traveling across the country over many years, and no place has gotten close to the burgers I had growing up. … until now! The food is fantastic, the service is excellent, the price is great, and the owners take pride in their business. To them, each customer is treated like family. We look forward to our visits to Bartel’s with great anticipation… makes me just like a kid again.

This was a great cheeseburger and fries! You can order big ones but I prefer a regular size. Be sure to ask about their special sauce for the fries. Thursday night is buy one shake or float get one free so we had yummy root beer floats too. Glad we found this place for our drives on hwy 5.

Passed through always saying we would stop by and this time we did. Great well cooked great onion rings and fries, good soft serve malt.
Could use a paint job

This place used to be the go to place for a great cheeseburger, now not so much. The second to last time we went there the food was not good at all. We were so disappointed. We decided to give it another shot after a few months when we seen that it had new ownership. This time my husband got very sick. The only different in our food was that he had bacon and I did not. This leaves me to believe that the bacon may have gone bad. This is twice in a row that we have not had a good experience, it is highly doubtful that we will return. I am sad for this because I grew up having burgers at Bartels andI thought my daughter would also.

Cook to order burgers and shakes with a personal touch. Sit at the counter, tables, or take it outside under the covered patio.

The food is amazing and so are the servers.
Best burgers in the country in my opinion.

Friendly Service, Great Burger and Fries, Sodas with Crushed Ice the way a soda should be served, and the Fry Sauce mmmm.
I will defiantly stop in again when driving through.

There are a few things I look for in a burger joint:
good juicy burger that’s not overdone.
fresh-​tasting cheese and produce
good buns (I look for this on a woman too, coincidentally)
solid fries (In ‘n’ out fries blow, for reference)
customer service
Bartel’s has always nailed all of the above. I’ve been going to the ones in Redding since I was a child, and it’s always been the best burger I think I’ve ever had. Whether it’s a giant or a double-​Giant with cheese, they’re awesome. And they’ve always been great with their customers.
This particular Bartel’s has a gentleman that works there (whose name escapes me at the moment) that has to be the nicest guy I’ve ever met. I don’t go often, but when I do he remembers me and we chat, and I’m always blown away by how much of a nice guy he is.
I honestly can’t recommend this place enough.

Great burger place near the Tesla supercharger! Very friendly owner and staff!
Hubby and I shared a Giant burger which is a ¹⁄₃ lb burger with big bun. The buns are nicely toasted and the veggie/​tomato are very fresh. You can definitely taste the awesome made-​to-​order freshness to the juicy burger!
I also like their fries which is the skinny type.
Will definitely stop by next time I am heading up on I-​5!
