I have been in dozens of hockey rinks in the 18 years of having a child play hockey. This ranks as the worst rink simply because of how ridiculously cold it was. Granted it was a cold weekend(10 –20 degrees) but it was as cold inside as outside. There were roof hanging heaters and but they were never on. No one expects to come to any structure and have it be that cold. People are there watching children play hockey with younger children, babies and elderly family members in tow. The rink management’s blatant disregard for the well-being of their guests means our team will never play in a tournament which uses this rink again.

Disclaimer: this review is from the perspective of a parent of a youth amateur hockey player. This is a nice arena with a few shortcomings. There are two sheets of ice, named«Airport side» and«Land side» in keeping with the«Airport» theme. The airport side surface is slow to freeze after the Zamboni resurfaces it, which sucks if it hasn’t froze by the time the game starts. It is also very cold in the rinks — you need a jacket, and during winter you need gloves and ear muffs. However, they are well lit and have ample seating, plus a large area behind the net nearest the lobby to also watch the games. Sometimes watching from behind the net provides for great photo opportunities of your player. The score boards function properly. The parking is ample, with parking on both sides of the building. Access from I-376(parkway west) at Ewing road could not be easier. The lobby is adequately sized. A huge shortcoming, new this year, is the elimination of the snack bar! They replaced it with vending machines. I asked a woman, who appeared to me to work there, if the closure was permanent or temporary. She gave a very curt response«After twenty years we’re tired of it, and it was never profitable.» Thanks for not answering my question. I’ll go out on a limb and assume its closed permanently. There is also no pro shop. That space is now for one of those cross fit programs. It works OK as a tournament venue but losing the snackbar pushes this arena to the bottom of the list in my opinion. No fresh coffee = 3 stars max. Luckily, after finding out I could get no coffee, I was able to go to Starbucks — there are two close enough to the rink.
