Such a cheated, letdown of an experience. I have been getting my hair dyed since I was 12, so I have had just about everything imaginable done. I went in for a red brown ombré with blonde highlights. After getting told I couldn’t do either option I wanted, despite having it done before at other places, I opted on a dark red to light red ombré with a couple Of face framing highlights. I ended up with one color with a couple of highlights and dye all Over my hairline. Even though the hairdresser knew it was not ombré by any means she still had to charge me it. They offered me to go back to have them do it darker on top, but this was already darker than I had planned because I had to change it to this for it to be ombré. The hairdresser was sweet and it is luckily a pretty color, but at 180 dollars I feel robbed when they know it is NOT what I paid for, but I have some stained skin to show for it.

Beware of this salon— stylists fresh out of school. I had a terrible cut(I mean BAD) and color that was way too dark. I’ve given this place several tries as they are flexible and available, but I have been repeatedly disappointed. I would AVOID.

Not terrible if your okay with stylists fresh out of school who don’t know how to cut hair. I lucked out and got the girl who was evidently their trainer. In the middle of my cut she got pulled over to help another stylist with layers. My stylist was great. But like all the good ones will, she moved on to another salon that charges a lot more and is now out of my budget. Also, do not waste your money on their products! I REPEAT, DONOTWASTEYOURMONEYONTHEIRPRODUCTS!!! I purchased this gel/mouse from them. It was expensive, ~$ 35 for the bottle, but I hoped it would be worth it. Well, I like the product itself but get pissed off every time I use it because the dispensing button gets stuck and I end up throwing more product down the sink than I actually put in my hair. When I tried to exchange it I was told it was past the 30 day mark. I’m sorry, but that shouldn’t apply to a defective product.

This post is a little out dated however had a co worker get her hair done recently and it reminded me, her hair was $ 200 and no one noticed the difference wasn’t nearly as blonde as she wanted… any ways my story I needed my highlights touched up and I love blonde hair and the guy put a medium brown color. I freaked and he was annoyed that I didnt like it bc «everyone likes his work»…I went in th3 following day to get it fixex and they wanted to charge me! I said no your fixing or else… way to expensive for the crappy hair dye

Blaze in Coralville is one of the biggest shams in the salon industry. The customer is charged for every piece of hair that is highlighted. The stylists are directly out of school so they can be molded the«blaze way». You have the option of drying your own hair for less of a charge. Isn’t the reason we have our hair done is so we don’t have to do it? I also think this premise takes away from the individual stylists style. The professionalism is lacking and the product is essentially unknown as they dump it into their own blaze bottles. I highly recommend staying away from Blaze.

Alex Brown is the most amazing stylist I have been too!!! She’s super excited about her work and takes great pride in making sure you are 100% satisfied! I can’t tell you how many times I have went in with new ideas and she always matches it perfectly! She takes the time to listen to exactly what you want and doesn’t try and talk you into anything else which I like. I have loved my hair the past year and a half because of her and since I am moving I wanted to make sure I recommended her to everyone! And if your not happy I know she does what she can to adjust the color or cut to what you do want. I just love going in to see her. It’s affordable and such fun. She’s amazing and my hair will miss her!!!

Blaze is nice and accommodating, but at the end of the day I don’ t know if I am the craziest about the final turn out of my hair. I’ve gotten quick trims twice before. Very nice stylist, but deep down I was never crazy about how my bangs would be trimmed. Although, VERY cheap if you want a bang trim. Just like $ 5.00 I believe? Approximately. However, today I was going to get 10+ inches cut off finally, for Locks of Love, and just went with a random stylist. She was nice and comforting at first, as I was nervous. And Blaze takes care of and sends out your hair to Locks of Love so you don’t have to worry about it. So that’s nice. But other than that, my stylist started to seem pre-occupied all the time, looking around A LOT. She was also really aggressive, as far as speed and movement, dropping her tools A LOT. Which I didn’t mind at first, but then it just made me start to wonder about her quality of paying attention and detail. And then I felt really bogged down and overwhelmed by HOWAGGRESSIVELY she was trying to push the products on me. I went in just wanting a dry cut, but somehow walked out getting the shampoo. My fault for not having control, but still. She guilted me in saying that if I shampooed it, it would allow her to do a better job with layering it; not wanting bad layers, I caved. But I understand trying to make a commission and such, and showcasing products, and showing what a product could do to your hair, but I felt this was just borderline too much. My past stylist just would do my hair and make me intrigued with a product and I would ask, and that would make me want to buy it more than having a product shoved down my throat. Finally, my hair turned out WAY shorter than when she first cut it off and then what I wanted and thought I would get. The way she styled it made me look like a rock star from the 70s. Anyway, I don’t know if I’ll come back again. It’s definitely a great place for atmosphere and service and there are nice redeeming qualities about Blaze you might want to consider, but if you are picky like I think I am, then I don’t think you will like the quality of the end result of your hair as I am never a fan of the quality of how my hair turns out from here. I’ll probably go back to trimming my hair myself. Price isn’t too bad if you stick to your guns and just get a cut, I paid 34.00 for cut and shampoo. I never had things died or perm so I can’t weigh in price on that end.

140 for highlights and a shampoo. i think stylist was nice but the highlights came out in wrong spots. I dont think the price is worth the level of expertise of stylists, or lack thereof.

Been there twice now to get haircuts from Terra, the GM. Twice now I have got the best haircuts I’ve ever had in my life! Most of the time prior to this when I got a haircut, it would look unnatural and would take a few days for the cut to look good. When I leave Blaze, my hair looks fantastic right away, and keeps looking good until the next cut. The salon is also very clean and the service is friendly, they offer you a beverage when you come in and don’t keep you waiting. Nothing but good things to say about Blaze!

I have been a client at Blaze Salon for about 3 years and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for high quality color, gorgeous cuts and styles, and a very friendly atmosphere! I was referred by a friend of mine and since I always have a great experience I have referred my sister and 3 more friends. They have all thanked me for the wonderful recommendation. I’ve had my hair colored, cut, styled for a wedding, and my eyebrows waxed, and I’ve never had a bad experience!

I’m new to IC and asked my roommate where to go for a haircut. They recommended Blaze so I made an appointment. My hair was really long and I wanted an above the shoulder cut. I loved it. Not to mention, first time customers get a free eyebrow wax. I was nervous since I swore off waxing after a bad shaping and let her know. She did wonderfully with my brows! I highly recommend it here — my stylist was Alex Brown.

I am writing this review late, and I am writing it because I was highly dissatisfied with the Blaze salon’s management and products. The stylist(Alissa) I had was AMAZING and this doesn’t reflect her work. My step-daughter and I were new to the area and wanted to find a hair salon to call home in Cedar Rapids. I noticed that Groupon had a special for a cut at this salon, so we purchased it and set up appointments for cuts and colors. So we got our hair cut, and they recommended products which we purchased 4 products each. The product packaging is horrible! Even though certain products(shampoo/conditioner) are ecofriendly(can refill the bottle for a discount), they break easily. My step daughter’s shampoo lid broke in the first week. My treatment cream pump broke within the first month. NOT worth the expense for broken products and the hair spray is very sticky. Within 2 weeks, my daughter’s red color washed out. They told us to come back in. Upon coming in the manager fixed her color and charged us. I have never been to a salon who would do something like that. We have switched salons but I feel so strongly about my experience here I wanted to share.

I went to Blaze to try something new. Big mistake. My haircut is aweful! I have medium length, wavey hair. I usually ask for a little layering because of the thickness. What I ended up with is a modified mullet! The stylist was very nice, but her ability to layer the hair on the crown of my head was terrible! I would be weary if you need any styling versus a basic trim.
