I attempted to use my first session(of three that were bought on Groupon) last night. I arrived at the business and the owner/therapist Scott asked me to lay on the table fully clothed face up. This should have been my first clue. He told me that he just started up this business and that Groupon was the best way to advertise without being hit with exorbitant advertising fees elsewhere. This was a tiny room cramped with his desk, exercise ball that he was using for a chair, another chair, small bookcase, and massage table. I explained some of the problem areas and what type of massage works best for me. He told me that his massage techniques were different, and different they were!!! This was in no way, shape, or form a traditional massage so if that is what your expecting, don’t waste your time and money! There were no lotions, or rub downs or hot rocks, or sheets/towels, NOTHING you would expect from a massage therapist. There was no massaging at all in fact, it was him putting his hands on my neck and back and letting them rest for what seemed like an eternity without much movement or manipulation. I truly felt like he had no clue what he was doing, or was trying something different to see if he could get away with calling what he was doing«work». After 10 mins, I asked Scott what was the deal, when does the traditional massage happen, because what he was doing made me very uncomfortable and dissatisfied. I was baffled. When he was surprised by my reaction, clearly he was defensive and probably offended. I told him that I did not care for his technique, it was not meeting my expectations, and was quite disappointed in the false advertising of «massage». To top it off, he must have been using Pandora for soothing background music but did not upgrade the app to Pandora One, so that every few mins, an annoying car commercial(or the like) would come on. REALLY? UGH!!! Disturbing!!! He didn’t acknowledge the commercials which was very strange. We ended the session quite abruptly, I was in there no longer than 15 mins feeling like I wasted my time. He explained that he does not do the«whole rub down thing» and shook his head in disgust as if traditional massages were too much work and beneath him. He said he knows a girl who is on call and can do the type of massage that I was looking for and that he would have her text me. Needless to say, I never heard from her. Bottom line, I want my money back and attempting to do that through Groupon. I read on his Unilocal business page that none of the 4 recommendations would be supported, and that seemed very shady to me. Were these so called recommendations coming from friends and family to get his business started and create some hype???
