Awesome food, great atmosphere, and reasonably priced. Fiesta Jalapeño Chicken, John Mac & Lob, and the Asian BBQ Salmon are my favorite dishes on the menu. The bartenders, especially Lisa, Alexis, and Hector, are great and always on point. The entrance used to be real classy with large fruit along the sidewalk. Apparently the fruit has spoiled and has been missing for probably a year now. The mounts that held the giant fruit have been covered with orange traffic cones. Will the fruit ever come back in season?

Father’s day 2016. OHOP was packed and we were ready to eat. Waze identified The Black Walnut Café and I am so glad it did Plenty of room for everyone, we were seated at the bar immediately. Coffee and drinks flowed. The friendly and attentive staff hand mixed all drinks.. No pre-mixed here. Food freshly made and delicious. My only complaint is I ate too much.. Mmmmm. Our companions at the bar, also enjoying the atmosphere were delightful with smart and engaging conversation. Before we left the bartender noted our names and faces and told us she would look for us again. We are looking forward to it.

This place is way over priced. The food is overrated and the deserts are over priced. The only thing on the menu that I enjoyed was the smoked salmon dip.

This is a fancy upscale version of La Madeline; nice upholstered leather booths, fancy-pants flooring and lighting fixtures, a bar, etc. We came in for lunch on a Friday at 11am and it was pretty empty. By the time we left at 12:30, it was packed with the lunch crowd. You order at the counter, take a pager, and wait until it starts buzzing and then you go and get your food at the counter. I ordered the lemon chicken alfredo pasta, which was DELICIOUS. It looks like not a lot of food at first, but once you start eating it’s actually the perfect amount of food– not too much and not too little. I also got gelato(vanilla and tiramisu) which was very yummy. The only cons I can think of about this place is that there were a lot of flies by where I was sitting just flying around the windows trying to get outside. The manager came by and opened the door to let them out but they were still stuck inside. The other«con» is that there is no wait service– which I consider to be a pro since I prefer to not be disturbed every 10 minutes by a server. But some people would consider it to be a con.

I ordered the pancakes and built my own omelet. They got my omelet wrong the first time but they were so nice and apologetic in replacing it. I wish they would have replaced the pancake too since it was cold by the time the new omelet was ready. The food was good and I will go back. Portions were smallish. #foodie

Went here for the first time yesterday for brunch with my mom and had a good time. Dark wood décor, self serve(like La Madeleine), friendly staff, quick food order. Only complaint was that it was a little dark inside(especially for brunch), but lots of families and friends were dining when we came. I ordered their turkey burger with sweet potato fries, which was a little on the salty end due to sautéed mushrooms being included in the burger, but overall a decent, satisfying meal. My mother ordered her own omelet with scallions, mushrooms, and Swiss that came with a side of toast. She enjoyed it a lot. Great for families and for anyone wanting a nice place to eat and catch up.

We met my family today at the Black Walnut to celebrate Mother’s Day. As you can expect, it was pretty crowded, but things seemed to move along pretty quick. There were always tables available, but because they have this totally bizarre ordering system, the backup was the ordering desk. You come in, grab a menu, and get in line. When you get to the counter, you place your order, and take a buzzer-thingy(I don’t know what these are called — pagers?), then head over to grab your fountain drink, coffee, or tea, then find a table, then you go back again to pick up your plates to take back to the table. If you order a fancy coffee or hot chocolate, you wait at the coffee bar, which is part of the regular bar, which made it all even more confusing. It’s like Panera, but not really. It comes across as a café that doesn’t want to pay a waitstaff. I ordered the french toast, which was literally two slices of french toast on a plate. That’s it. There was at least four tablespoons of melted butter on the top, almost all of which I scraped off. The puddle made my plate look not so bare. I ordered a fruit side which was fine, but it’s hard to mess up a fruit cup, really. I also ordered a mimosa, which was pretty heavy on the champagne, and normally that is a great thing, but they must have been using Cook’s. It was pretty harsh. I don’t know. It’s not my thing. I want a side with my entrée. I want someone to bring me my hot plate, not let it sit on a counter with everyone else’s food for a few minutes before I figure out it’s ready. I want a mimosa that is delicious and a pleasure to drink. I’ll probably go back because my family loves it. But it won’t ever be a place that I suggest to others.

Sangria was filled with 95% ice. Tasted like ice water with a splash of sweetened wine. After 4 sips, I was left with a tall glass of ice and not so fresh fruit. I cannot recommend cocktails here unless you enjoy crunching on ice throughout your meal.

I been going here a least once a month and honestly thought the food was great and fresh. Today however the service was horrible! We got there around 12:00PM which is pretty busy since it is when everyone takes lunch. But there was only one person taking the order. We didn’t mind waiting until we met Sunny. Let’s just say that Sunny was not sunny today but more«grey and cloudy». The worst customer service EVER from him! I really hope the managers reads this and have a talk with Sunny. Not only did he take FOREVER to find our food on the computer but he didn’t even say anything to us until we said I would like to order… and then forgot to give us our cups for drinks and when we asked him too, he looked at us if we were the crazy ones. I now have to rethink if I would come back here if he is there taking our order, not to mention my order was wrong! Like I said worst experience here EVER.

This is one of the restaurants with not so good reviews proven me wrong. It has been open for a year now and I hesitantly eat here because of all these reviews but a friend of mine vouched for it. I listened to her an gave this place a try. We came in for brunch and unlike other places, they have a unique ordering system here. You order at the cashier and pay for it, they give you a buzzer for your food. You will have to pick it up at the counter. They also have gelato and a bar for drinks. I got the chicken fried steak with garlic mash potato and it was super garlicky. The chicken fried steak however was perfect! it wasn’t tough to cut and the breading was perfect. I also got gelato after and it was okay.

The ambiance was good. I enjoyed the various seating areas. If you want a bar experience, you got it. If you want to sit in comfy sofa chairs like you’re in a café, you have that option. If you’re with the entire family and need good ol’ chairs and tables, don’t worry, annnnnnd if you’re on an date and wanting a more intimate setting, fear not, they have booths in the back. This place kinda reminds me of a La Madeline in that you order your food at the counter, pay and then sit and wait until your meal arrives(or in the case of black walnut, until you pick up your food). The only difference is that La Madeline actually has good food that you crave. Black walnut seems like the type of restaurant that a random generator chooses for you, and you can’t choose to dine anywhere else because those are the«rules». The chicken taquitos were okay. The chicken was bland, but I liked that sauce that was poured over it, it had a smoky flavor that paired well with the provided guacamole. My lemon chicken pasta was sad sad sad. It was so bland and the portion so tiny. Salt and pepper people. Please season your food. Black walnut’s saving grace was the gelato. It really could be award-winning. The biscottino gelato tasted like tapioca pudding. I’m not a tapioca pudding eating granny by any means, but I loved it! Although a little biscotti chunks through out the gelato couldn’t hurt. Solomon(Sunny) showed me and my guest love all night. He was my fave. Give that guy a raise and tell him I said hi.

Came here during the week for lunch a couple times with larger parties and had mixed experiences. My first experience was awesome! the food was delicious, the service was friendly and the food came out fast. The second time we had issues with orders and the food took longer to come out. As far as food quality, this restaurant is very consistent and is our offices go to when we’re going out to lunch(8 – 10 people).

Loved the ambience! This was my first time at TBWCafe! This located was busy enough to give you some excitement and fun for the night but steady enough where you received well customers service! I loved how it made me feel like a grown up, meaning it was spacious for all their customers! I wasn’t awkward or bombarded with loud families & kids! This location had a café lounge area, restaurant-style tables & booth area, and an open bar! Prefect settings for a date, meet-ups or family dinners! It was whatever floats your boat that night! You basically walk in, order from the menu & pay at the counter, pick your seating style, then pick up your food when your pager/buzzer goes off! I ordered a $ 8 cheesecake since I had a large lunch earlier! It was too thick and overpowering of cream cheese but overall I would come back to this location! My friend ordered their soup & salad combo and loved her dinner!

Very nice brunch place. No wait, no lines, excellent food, reasonably priced. Excellent lattes and cakes. We ordered the eggs Benedict and chicken and waffles. Chicken and waffles had chicken tenders rather than a thigh and leg. Eggs Benedict was done just right and the hollandaise sauce was perfect.

While in the area for an event at the Gaylord, we came across this restaurant while in search of a place for a late dinner. We ordered our food(and later picked it up) from the counter. The pot roast dinner was quite good. The meat was tender and tasty, and there was just enough extra sauce to be mopped up with the provided bread. The vegetables were steamed to perfection but had very little seasoning, resulting in a great consistency but a slightly bland taste. The mashed potatoes were good, but not terribly memorable. Starring in this meal is the plate of pulled pork tacos. The pork was expertly marinated, cooked, and sauced. The fruit, vegetable, and cheese toppings did everything to enhance the meat with complimentary tastes and contrasting textures. I sampled all of the iced teas, and each one was able to carry it’s secondary flavor well, accenting the tea without overpowering it. All of then were delightful, and I am especially partial to the green tea. Upon request, we also got two desserts, a slice of red velvet cake and a scoop of the amaretto gelato. The cake was moist and well-made and the gelato was very good. The seating area has something for everyone. Bar, booth, and table seating for your dining needs, and there are comfy chairs for relaxing in. While a bit pricier than other counter-service restaurants, the food was high-quality and pretty tasty. The visit will likely be a one-off, but that is due to the distance involved.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Black Walnut Café with the hubby last weekend. I’m typically weary of the places that my husband recommends but I’m glad he gave me the option of stopping by here for lunch after an afternoon of shopping, it was gooooood. Just hearing the name ‘café’ I thought of a small, local, mom/pop place, typically a hole in the wall joint — Black Walnut is the complete opposite of that. BW was very spacious, clean, updated and they even had a bar with a large selection of wines. *hearts in eyes smiley* I likey. I was impressed by the menu as I perused it before we arrived, I knew exactly what I wanted when we arrived: the pot roast dinner. We were greeted by everyone when we walked in, this made me feel very comfortable and at home — sadly, some places have gotten away from having greeters or people that set the atmosphere for their guests. My eyes caught the dessert options(of course) and everything looked delicious, they have a selection of cannoli, gelato and baked goods — I opted to try the moondoggie, yes, before my meal came… judge me if you want to, I don’t care. The moondoggie is a cookie, I think, with chocolate chips, walnuts, almonds and all kinds of goodies inside. It was small enough not to ruin my meal… but good enough for me to get another one after my meal. Again, judge me if you want to, I don’t care. Now, on to the meal. The pot roast meal was d.e.l.i.c.i.o.u.s. The meat was flavorful, tender and just what I hoped it would be. But the garlic mashed potatoes? They had me at hello. The roasted veggies were also well cooked and seasoned too. Everything was perfect! Rod had some sort of chicken croissant sandwich type thing that he demolished in like .45 seconds… I guess it was good. I typically don’t like venturing out of my 5 – 7 mile radius bubble(again, judge me if you want to) but Black Walnut Café is now on my list of ‘gotta try more menu items,’ so I plan on coming back for a visit or two real soon!

We came in on busy Saturday lunch rush. We were in Flower Mound at a baseball tournament and we were coming in between games. We came in a spotted a manager. We asked him if there was a spot we could put a table together for 12. He immediately spotted some tables and put them together for us. That was really cool of him to do for us, since we were bringing in some stinky baseball players. This is a similar set up to Pei Wei. You order at a counter, you are given a pager, and they you come and retrieve your food from the counter when the pager goes off. It is usually a wait time in less than ten minutes. I had the carnitas tacos. They were amazing. The pork was very tender and flavorful. My son had the ziti pasta, but replaced the marinara sauce with Alfredo. It was great. By the way he won his next game. We think it had something to do with the pasta from Black Walnut. My hubby had the club croissant. It was great. All the teammates loved their food also.

I am a huge BWC fan and enjoyed stopping at this location that will be close to my new office. The menu doesn’t change much with one or two specials weekly. The location can quickly get crowded at lunch time. I recommend you hit them early. Free wifi if you need to catchup on a little work or like me, make it my morning office on occasion. Enjoy!

I had heard nothing but good things about this place, so when I was treated to lunch here by my girl Carolynn, I honestly got REALLY excited. First, when you walk in, it just smells really good. Like fresh-baked EVERYTHING. The ambience is very cozy, very comfortable, very relaxed. Taking a look at the menu at first, even though I looked at the menu on Unilocal beforehand, it’s not too overwhelming, but just enough options, but not TOO many. I had a hard time choosing between The Black Walnut Salad and The«Never-Ending Summer» Salad. I love salads that have ALOT going on, so both of them were right up my alley. I decided to get The Black Walnut Salad. The julienne green apples sounded really appealing to me. You walk up, order at the register, get your drink cups and seat yourself. Our food took no time to come, I mean after all, we both ordered salads. My girl, she got The Caesar Salad and added shrimp. My salad was beautiful. Piled high with yumminess and everything just went so well together, ESPECIALLY the Gorgonzola cheese with the chick and walnuts. I wanted to ask for more of the tomato savory dressing, but I didn’t want to overdo it. I’ll for sure be going to the Allen location, which is closer to me, to try out The«Never-Ending Summer» Salad and also their pasta dishes. Heard nothing but good things about them as well!

Third time at Black Walnut. This time, I got a cobb salad because that seemed safe. My gift card from my first experience is all used up. I found something crusty on the bottom of my pasta bowl. The chicken was really dry, tasted precooked, frozen, and reheated. They might have a bunch of chicken in the back precooked waiting to go on the salads. It is definitely not worth $ 13. It’s worth it to drive farther to get better food. I feel bad because Rhea has been really nice. But the food just isn’t good and the prices are high.
