All I can say is YUCK! Ordered the pastrami. It was made of the cheap loaf pastrami, and cheese that tastes like Velveeta. Burned bun. No mayo or mustard. Hands down, the worst excuse for a sandwich I’ve ever had. Ate a couple of disgusting bites and tossed the rest. For what we paid, we could have had some yummy footlongs from Subway across the street, made with good meats and all the vegetables we wanted. Next time, that’s what we’ll do. Sad. They call themselves a sandwich shop. You would think if all they do are sandwiches, they could do a decent job. Nope. Too bad there is no zero stars option!

We all really enjoyed the food at Luigi’s this evening — our first visit ever but certainly not our last. 1 Garbage Grinder 1 Hot LA 1 Pastrami Reuben 1 Pizza Bread w/Pepperoni All were cooked perfectly and with just the right amount of sauce. The bread was evenly toasted and it was stuffed full of yummy fillings. Very friendly service. Family owned local favorite. Not a chain and that’s what we love most. It’s got character.

You can see from previous reviews that a lot of people do not get it. Luigi’s is an institution in Coos Bay and was here before all of the other sandwich shops. Their method of making sandwiches has not changed in the 40 years they have been in business. Yes, it’s greasy. Yes, it’s a hole in the wall. Make no mistake, they make some of the best food I have eaten. The«Garbage Grinder» is a sandwich that has to be experienced. Please visit this place to see for yourself.

Terrible! I’ve eaten here twice and don’t know how it’s still in business! The sandwiches are horribly tough, burnt to heck, and dripping with tomato juice combined with mayo? and really greasy, and they just throw a bunch of toppings on their that don’t really work well together. not really edible in my opinion.

Okay, but nothing to travel out of your way for. Workmanlike sandwiches, but no bargains here. The people also seemed much friendlier to customers they seemed to know. Tight parking. Picnic table seating. Maybe an acquired taste? I guess we’ll never know,

The service was very very friendly. They were very nice and I enjoyed the atmosphere. However, my sandwich was called like the Hot LA or so etching of that caliber, it was supposed to be spicy but holy mother of Christ there were so many jalapeños on this thing it was virtually inedible. And I LOVE spicy stuff, but this was so much it ruined the flavor of everything else on the sandwich. My husband got the special of spaghetti and meat sauce which they said«received raves» and was«to die for». …meh, it was just okay. Very expensive for sandwiches.

The sandwiches are good but very very greasy! In my own opinion it is to high prices for sandwiches. The building is very dated and offers hardly any seating. Very small parking lot.

This was my first time there after seeing the article about the owner in the local paper. I had the large pastrami grinder with pickles and mayo and a side of potato salad. It was a bit pricey($ 10.50)but very fresh. The garlicky buttery bread was delicious and although I ended up removing the 20 pickles on my sandwich, it was a great sandwich and I’d definitely try this again and some of their other choices too. The sandwich was also large enough for two meals. The cheese was melty and it was just the right amount of toasted to be a bit smokey but not crunchy. The only thing I wouldn’t order again was the potato salad but I’m a sweet not a savory and this was more of a real mayo as opposed to miracle whip kind of salad so I understand that it’s strictly a personal taste of mine. The salad itself was fresh, creamy and just the right size chunks of potato. I though the dining space was quaint and the ambiance felt like a mom and pop shop rather than a chain. It was clean and the service was friendly and gracious. I’d definitely go back.

I was always told,“If you don’t anything good to say, Don’t say anything at all” The one star is for how nice the lady was who took my order

This place is more take out than eat in, but so be it. Luigi’s is always packed when they are open, and they are generally open for lunch. They have a facebook page that you can check for hours, but expect them to be closed Sunday and Monday, open 11 – 6 most other days(I think they close at 5 pm on Saturday). Luigi’s is super divey, not much more to say about décor than that. A few tables and chairs and an ordering counter, that’s about it. On the other hand, what more do you need? There is a pretty neat wall ‘o’ pictures to take in while you wait, and my companion even got a picture taken with the nice little old lady that runs this place for the wall– pretty much made his week. Prices at Luigi’s are pretty high(like $ 8 a sandwich) for the area, but just like at Yeong’s you get a lot of food for what you pay. This spot specializes in grinders, and is the only place like it in the area. Their claim to fame is the garbage grinder, but I particularly like the turkey grinder– thick slices of turkey breast, veggies, melted cheesy goodness, all grilled up and greasey. Not the hugest sandwich I have had but definitely not Subway either… authentic Luigi’s. Yum! The original owner is the little old lady in the back that still does most of the cooking; she is sweet as pie and a damn good sandwich maker. Her daughter was running the register when I visited and was extremely friendly. I wanted to thank her for helping out with a fundraiser at the local community college, and she was very gracious. Luigi’s is like that scary house that people tell stories about only to realize a really nice geriatric person lives there that they have missed out on getting to know for the last thousand years… so do like in Monster House folks and get in there!

Huge sandwiches, more of a overloaded deli style. Don’t seem to be open the hours I’m infrequently in that area of town. Not always the cleanest, but best at the type they do in the area.

My family visited CB/NB for this past Christmas/New Years holiday. We stopped at Luigi’s on our way out to to see«The Lights». Really good as always. My in-law’s took us. We were going to stop for dessert on the way back. I was too stuffed to get an ice cream at Tastee Freeze, and I was just fine with that. Looking forward to going back this summer for the family reunion and another Garbage Grinder!

I came back from the USAF base I was at in SoCal in 1976, used to having a big inexpensive sub sandwich capable of being used for two meals. Luigi’s gave me one for more than twice the price with less than half the food and a bad attitude to boot. SCREWYOUGUYSANDINCASEYOUHAVEN’T FIGUREDITOUT… You have missed out on over 3 decades of business from me and I’ve done everything I can to trash your rep. You got bad word of mouth in spades when you screwed me once with your pathetic attempt at making a sub sandwich. I’ve never seen a worse one since that time either. You couldn’t pay me to eat there.
