I really hate to write negative reviews about local, non-chain restaurants, especially those bringing ethnic foods to conservative areas, but our experience at Royal House was sub-par. The building, location and décor were actually great, and the service was good as well. But the food. I’ve had a lot of Thai food in the past fifteen or so years, and frankly, this may be the worst. Maybe it was just a bad night, but the pad see ewe that we had was fairly bland(to be fair, I find most pad see ewe to be somewhat bland, I use it as a litmus test for Thai restaurant quality), and the eggplant«specialty» dish that we had was just a pile of gelatinous, fried glop. I wound up mainly eating the non-breaded vegetables and some of the tofu out of it. Again, maybe this was an anomaly, I want to think that this place usually does better, but I also hope that Cookeville winds up with some stronger Thai options by the time I pass through here again.

The food was fantastic: fresh and flavorful. The prices were moderate; service was good, and décor felt modern and comfortable. We really enjoyed our time here. My husband has been skeptical of Thai food and this place was a great introduction for him! We ordered the drunken noodles and jungle curry! Yumo!

Great food, average to poor service. Spicy Thai at it’s best, but a little pricey for the College side location and portions. The real problem is the below average service. Food is very very good, but service is indifferent, and very disinterested in customer satisfaction. You have to ask and wait for everything, refills, sauces condiments, even the check. A training make-over of the staff would turn this to a four or five star in fast order.

Fresh ingredients tasty spicy food! Nice servers and the outdoor tables made for a cool evening to dine. We all four had a different entrée. I had Jungle Curry with rice. Both piping hot and spicy hot too! Prices decent.

Friday night and I wanted a quiet place to eat out. The atmosphere was great. Service was great. And the Tom yum soup and the jungle curry were very good.

An Americanized version of Thai food, but still quite good. IF you are looking for authentic to the last noodle, this would not be the place for you, but neither would it work in a small college town. Good food, excellent service both when eating in and take out, it’s worth trying. I am just thankful we have one in Cookeville.

Below average Asian food, and loosely based on Thai dishes. We had someone from Thailand with us and I’ve lived in Asia. Not only is all the food effectively prepared the same way with a few exceptions with the only variance being the ingredients, but also totally lacking any flavor. Putting Chinese sauces on the side is a joke and a way to avoid using authentic Thai ingredients. Service was adequate, but nothing exceptional considering the low volume of business and the fact that our large group composed about 80% of the customers at the time. I guess the waitress assumed with the mandatory gratuity she didn’t need to do anything except drop off the food. We didn’t even get refills. Nice. On the bright side, the restaurant is decorated well, so you can enjoy mediocre Thai food in a nice clean environment.

Update: Brought the hubby in one evening after this first review and he has been back three times twice with me before work for lunch and once with the whole family for a dinner. He LOVES it too. He loves the Pork Drunken Noodle It’s just the right amount of savory and heat I can eat it too, but not after it’s leftover for too long cause the onion/green pepper really soak up the heat!

I appreciate the fact that Cookeville has a Thai restaurant. I have enjoyed coming here each time. Service has been great, ambiance has been great and food has been good. I don’t like the fact that the outside of the restaurant(under the deck and out back is dirty with random objects lying around) seems to be ignored. I’m a details person so I notice things like this. Overall would recommend though.

It’s not the best Thai food place, but it’s good enough. Unlike most Thai food places that let you order how spicy you want your food, House of Thai brings out a tray with a couple different spices. Also the wait times for your food takes a bit longer then expected. It’s good, but I’ve had way better.

Nice décor. Clean. Friendly server. Good appetizers. He had drunken noodles with mixed seafood, and I had Odd Couple. They were not yet prepared to serve many items on their new menu. I like the ambience.

A small, sleep college town like Cookeville is indeed fortunate to have the House of Thai(HOT). The sign outside the restaurant says HOT; the credit card receipt says Royal House Thai Cuisine. I don’t care, I am not here to lose sleep over the name, I am here to get my Thai food on. I tried the Street Noodles and the Pad Thai; both were good. Simply prepared and spiced, they reminded me of Thai country food the way Tennessee country food compares to city food; simpler, yet still tasty and satisfying. Of course I could go to Nashville, Atlanta, Chicago etc and have great Thai, but I am in Cookeville and they do a pretty decent job of it here! It is right next to Tennessee Tech, so it is frequented by students, which is not a bad thing. The service was unobtrusive and efficient. Not close to the interstate, but worth driving a few minutes out of the way if you’re jonesin’.

As a visitor to the area, I was pleasantly surprised to find this Thai restaurant — its hard to find, tucked away in the Tennessee Tech Univ area,. but good food and pleasant service make up for this. The food has been made bland for the local tastes, but a spicy sauce bar comes with your entrée. They make Thai ice tea and serve Thai beer. Given they’re the only Thai option in town, they’re worth a visit if you like Thai food.

I had the mango curry. It wasn’t the best curry I have ever had but it wasn’t bad either. Spice was relatively mild, but they had other chilis I could add to the curry. Its a little hard to find the right entrance to the parking lot. There wasn’t much décor to the place, but the people were friendly. WIFI is also available.
