I was chaperoning my sister on a visit to Hendrix College and needed a place to eat dinner. Sushi sounded good so I decided to give this place a try. The sushi was mediocre at best, and I tried 3 different rolls. I sat at the bar, and the bartender was very rude — it just seemed like he was extremely grumpy. Overall, not a place I would go again if I were back in the area.

This was my second and my last visit. I ordered the spicy tuna roll and the beef and broccoli bowl. At first sight, I did not notice any beef but I just kinda figured it was at the bottom of the bowl. After a few bites, I realized my bowl had absolutely no meat. I mentioned it to the gentleman working behind the counter and not only did he not offer a solution, he actually made a joke about it. I live in Little Rock and there are a multitude of great sushi spots here but after my first visit to How Do You Roll I fell in love with the atmosphere and service. I am disappointed that in such a small period of time the service has fallen to such a miserable state. Sad…

I ordered a spicy tuna roll and a salmon rice bowl to go. The spicy tuna roll was a little flavorless but otherwise unremarkable. The salmon rice bowl was essentially inedible. Two lettuce leaves, undercooked rice(stick-to-your-teeth chewy), frozen mango chunks and a couple of pieces of salmon completely covered with what appeared to be thousand islands dressing. I couldn’t stir the bowl because the rice was so hard. I ended up having to throw it out. There are at least two good sushi restaurants in Conway(Domoyaki Osaka and Umami are both very good). I can’t imagine a reason to eat at this place other than location.

We are the only group in here and are not being served. The hostesses/server just stands around without looking to see if we need to order. I have sat silently here for 10 min waiting to order while she texts. The bartender is absent and when I finally got my cocktail there was a hair in it. We just left because no one came to see us

Sushi in Arkansas? This place was an unexpected surprise. Simple, fun menu. Pleasantly modern interior and a friendly staff. We ordered the spicy tuna, Crazy Cajun, and Mango Tango. Everything was delicious! What a unique and enjoyable dining experience! Can’t wait to go back for happy hour!

I love getting a sushi roll the way I want it. I had my creations: Unagi, avocado, cucumber, white rice, sesame seeds, and went with wasabi & soy to dip it. YUM!

Great concept, nice atmosphere but food was just okay. I will have to say that they have the sushi rice down — not too mushy but made just right. However, the nori(seaweed) they used for my sushi cone(hand roll) was not very fresh — rather kind of chewy. Hubby enjoyed the chicken and waffle cone tho :} The chopped asian salad basically consisted of large, long pieces of cabbage mixed with celery and only a hint of flavor. It was just okay. The menu didn’t list the ingredients so it was probably my bad for not asking. I was excited about the Pacificado stuffed avocado. It sounded great. However, there wasn’t any distinct flavor of avocado or spicy tuna or even the wonderful combination of both. It was a little bland with just the flavor of spicy — if that makes sense. Overall there was just something missing(flavor-wise) in their dishes. That being said, there are many other items menus that we haven’t tried. This may be worth another shot.

A nice concept, great staff and very personable owner. I tried a Bento Box to indulge in a cross section of the menu options — ceviche, hot & spicy edamame, rocket shrimp cone, and crunch daddy sushi roll. DELICIOUSANDAFFORDABLE!!! I’m ready for this operation to bring their caravan to Little Rock! Woohoo!!!

I enjoy sushi and am picky about what I enjoy. For example, I have had a bad experience with some cooked eel and tend to avoid it unless I know the restaurant and they serve it raw. On my first visit, I was grabbing a To-Go lunch. A nice gentleman preparing rolls talked to me about what I liked and recommends their Re-eel-y good roll. He said their eel was cooked, but was not like the eel I’d had before(fishy and with bones). I am always open to trying new things or revisiting a bad experience. The roll was great, the eel was tender and sweet and I decided I’d come back soon Fast forward two days, my anniversary. My husband and I don’t generally make much fuss about anniversaries, but I hadn’t cooked and the rest of the family were at work or some sort of competition — so we decided to catch a bite out. He suggested we try the new sushi place. We shared the Re-eel-y good roll and had a custom roll with crawfish, bacon, cucumber, green onion, and sprouts. We paid and additional $ 1 for roe as an additional topper. The roll was good but the bacon was strong enough we may opt out next time since it overshadowed many of the other good flavors. Don’t get me wrong — the bacon was good, the roll was good — this is just a personal choice. The wasabi mayo was a bit creamy and mild for my tastes, but if you like a very mild wasabi undertone, this is the sauce for you. I do have one complaint, so to speak. I have not ordered an alcoholic beverage out in over 10 years. I am a very light drinker and because of a gastric bypass 12 years ago, I am extra sensitive to the effects of alcohol. I ordered a Himalayan. The taste of this drink was wonderful, but at $ 8 plus tip, I can assure you this drink was not worth it. Based on how sober I remained I can say there was probably less than ½ shot of hard alcohol in this drink. It was my expectation this drink would contain 1 full shot of alcohol and it did not. My advice: opt for an appetizer or another roll and skip the libations. I still highly recommend this restaurant. The service is nice and the food is great — the ETOH is just not worth the expense.

We went to How Do You Roll on the first night it was open for regular business, and I expected it to be one of those not-the-best experiences one endures at new restaurants, but I was pleasantly surprised. The set up is similar to Pei Wei, in which you order at the counter, get a number and a table and are waited upon in a more limited capacity. When we came in, a staffer was asking people in the line if they had questions and explaining the menu. I knew it was custom sushi, so I was surprised by how many menu items there were, rolls, bowls, salads, etc. I had intended to make my own roll(you choose white or brown rice, soy or seaweed wrap, protein and veggies), but I spied the mango tango roll, with salmon and spicy chili sauce and I was sold. My husband, who is a very careful, healthy eater, went for one of the teriyaki bowls, but asked to substitute salmon for chicken. And that’s what they do here: They make it YOUR way. At the counter, when I ordered my roll, the cashier asked me if I wanted white or brown rice and seaweed or soy wrap. My husband also got to choose his rice. We ordered edamame and were given the choice of salted or unsalted. Because it was the grand opening, we won one miso soup for the table, which we shared. Drinks are ordered at the bar, which is a pretty little cocktail area separate from the main line up and dine area. The restaurant is not very big, so rush times could get dicey. We arrived a little before five and had no trouble getting a table. By the time we left, there was a line and the bar area, with its comfortable couches and chairs was full. I decided to try the Green Geisha cocktail, with pear Absolut and other juices and alcohol. The bartender, Stacey, was GREAT. You can start a tab at the bar separate from the tab you pay when you order. Our waitress, McKinley, was very friendly. She brought us our appetizers and meals and checked in with us frequently to make sure we needed nothing. I asked her where the napkins were, and she said immediately, «I’ll get you some!» When she returned, she reminded us to ask us for whatever we needed. I really liked my sushi roll, and I loved having the brown rice option. The roll was spicy but I could still taste the fish and rice. My husband was not prepared for uncooked salmon in his rice bowl(he NEVER eats conventional sushi). I tasted a morsel, and it was very flavorful and good, but he described the bowl as «fast-food Japanese.» We disagreed. The only complaint I had was when I went up to cash out my tab, there was a man at the cash register who didn’t acknowledge me and left me standing there a couple of minutes. When Stacey saw me there, she rushed over, giving me quick and friendly service. I really liked my meal and thought the service was great for a first-day in a quickish-serve restaurant. The atmosphere was fun and pretty. I will definitely be back.
