Rocky Mountain German Shepherds

My experience was consistent with the other negative reviews here. They are rude and unprofessional. Also not very knowledgeable about the breed.

We have worked with Jayne 10 years ago and received a wonderful GSD! Last July, after this dog passed away, it was time to get a new puppy. We specifically requested a wonderfully tempered animal — as I have a special needs child — and that is what Jayne supposedly specializes in. Instead, we received a highly dominant female with major dog aggression issues. When this now, 7mo female, bit deeply into my wife’s arm and mauled our other dog, we had to long term board her with the hope this can be trained out of her and give the dog away. We tried to discuss this with Jayne and no reply. We never received her AKC papers. Numerous attempts to get the AKC papers go unanswered. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BREEDER!

I was not impressed with the owner’s work ethic or business practices. She was not very responsive while we were going through the selection and buying process, and when we showed up to pick up our puppy at the scheduled time, we knocked and called multiple times with no response, then eventually left and came back. When she answered the door, she told us she had fallen asleep — no apology. What should have been a very exciting time for my family was instead kind of dreary because of the owner’s «take it or leave it» attitude throughout the process.
I realize a breeder cannot completely guarantee the temperament of the dogs she or he sells. However, the dog I purchased from RMGS has fallen WAY short of the breeders claim of «Superior temperament, beautiful conformation, excellent health, and high levels of trainability.» After two years, 16 sessions with two different professional trainers, and several trips to the vet for our other dog, I feel this dog is essentially untrainable. She is so dominant and so neurotically self-​focused that we can no longer have any other dogs in our household and have to put her in a kennel when we have company over. I’ve had two other pure-​bred Shepherds previously (from other breeders) and both were absolutely wonderful — super intelligent, very easy to train, and always eager to please. This is what I was hoping for when I spent nearly $ 2,000 for another pure-​bred GSD. What I got was not even close.

Jayne and her staff are experts in training and breeding. The facility is a dream, clean, and in a utopian mountain environment. Puppies are well taken care of, and the staff is personal. If I could give zero stars I would, let me also add that this is the ONLY review I have ever written, EVER. I usually just blow things off but the blatant disrespect when you won’t return a customers emails is absolutely ridiculous. I have tried to contact Jayne Edwards MULTIPLE times and she keeps blowing me off. I’ve been trying to get information to put down a deposit and she won’t get me the information. I’m the customer and I should be a priority right? Apparently not. I was incredibly serious about putting a down payment on a puppy for a little that won’t even be bred until May, but I will be looking elsewhere now. I have no patience or time for people who refuse to communicate with customers who may have questions.

Jane is not a LLC — as agreed in a court case.

We had a very positive experience with Rocky Mountain German Shepherds. We got our dog, now almost 8 months old, back in April. The process of buying the pup went smoothly and took about 6 months as we were very picky about the dog — we have two small children, so temperament was #1 for us. The process went very smoothly. Our dog is wonderful — he has a great personality, is so smart and friendly and most importantly, I never worry about him with kids. He loves kids and has an overall fabulous temperament. He is a great addition to our family, and everyone always remarks about what a great dog he is. I found Jayne very easy to work with and never felt she was dishonest in any way. Through the entire selection process, I always felt like she was trying to find us the best match for our family and not just collect our money.
EDITED TO ADD: It’s a shame how Unilocal filters these reviews. It makes no sense to me. There are obviously many people with positive experiences (including myself), and this business is rated one star based on two reviews out of 19…

When we first found RMGS, we had just lost our old dog to cancer. Jayne was so patient as we visited week after week to get to know one of the litters that had just been born. She allowed us to visit with the puppies every Saturday afternoon for as long as we wanted – taking the puppies out of mom’s sight into the yard, holding them, taking photos of them. Finally we picked a pup at 6 weeks and this month he is a year old. It has been a wonderful year with our GSD, and we have boarded him a few times at Jaynes. He always comes back better behaved than he was. If I could part with my dog, I would have him trained at RMGS, but unfortunately I can’t part with him for a month, so we have done our own obedience courses. Next weekend our puppy will take the Canine Good Citizens test and we are sure he will pass. Thanks to Jayne, we have a wonderful, exceptional dog. We couldn’t have asked for a better temperament or personality from our pup. He is also incredibly beautiful – we can’t walk out the door without people complimenting him on how good looking he is. This is a great GSD breeder if you are looking for that special addition to your family!

I brought my gsd to Rocky Mountain gsd a few months ago for training. After 5 weeks of not seeing my dog I was excited to come pick up a well trained version of him. When I got there he seemed super scared around Jayne, with his ears constantly down. She was supposed to give me a full tutorial of what he has learned and how to pass the commands and authority on to me. She basically rushed me out of there instead, obv making sure she got paid before anything … As soon as I get home I noticed my dogs ears were never cleaned the whole time he was there. I mean it was caked on so bad it took me a solid 40 mins to get them back to normal, it’s amazing he didn’t get a serious ear infection. He obviously had to be washed cause they didn’t do that either and when I was washing him I noticed scabs and a nice open wound on his neck. I called Jayne right away and asked what happened to my dog and why wasn’t I told while I was there. Her excuse was that my gsd was playing with a lab puppy and bit him. That still didn’t explain why she didn’t tell me and probably hopped I was a piece of dirt like her and didn’t pay close attention to my dog. The cut and scabs didn’t look like a bite but more like him get yanked on with a prong correction collar for 5 weeks straight and it cut him many times cause of it .And last but not least she put a bark collar on my gsd with out my permission and now he doesn’t bark and when he does it looks like they damaged his vocal cords … No one should be doing this to a 7 month old puppy. Abusing dogs to get them to listen isn’t proper training ethics… I plan on speaking to a lawyer about this or if anyone has reached out to one already I wouldn’t mind getting involved .I’ve called many times to Jayne for her to make things right but she just gives me an attitude and rushes me off phone … SOMEONE NEEDS TO SHUT THAT PLACE DOWN !!!

My experience with Rocky Mountain German Shepherds was not just terrible, it was tragic. In August, 2010 I purchased a Pink Paper German Shepherd puppy from Jayne Gervase-​Edwards, who runs the business. About nine months later my dog, named Rothko, was dead of congenital heart disease. I spent thousands of dollars with vet specialists trying to give Rothko the longest and best life possible, but the disease with which he was born was too severe.
After Rothko’s death Ms. Gervase-​Edwards was contacted with a request for a refund, but she was non-​responsive. On being pressed to respond, Ms. Gervase-​Edwards insisted that Rothko was healthy when I bought him and that his disease could have been caused by unspecified «environmental factors.» Her response is in direct contradiction to established veterinary science and the vet cardiologist’s diagnosis of congenital disease. Citing the letter of the contract, Ms. Gervase-​Edwards refused a refund, insisting that she «breeds very healthy dogs» and is a «reputable breeder.» Eventually she did offered a replacement puppy, but this did not mean I would have the same free choice from all puppies that a new buyer would have. Instead I would have only the choice of «certain pups» that she would decide to make available to me.

Over the years I have worked with four different professional breeders, and my experience with Rocky Mountain German Shepherds was by far the worst. Based on my experience I would not recommend that anyone purchase a dog from Rocky Mountain German Shepherds.
