Don’t know if they still have the deal on Tuesday or Wednesday, tacos for like $.75 or .$ 50 each.

Disclaimer: At first when I saw the low rating I was like WTF? Then I realized the negativity was for the taqueria inside the market. Come on lazy Unilocalers, create a separate FUCKING page for the taqueria! So, this review is solely for the market. — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — – Las Montañas is a family-owned market that means the mountains in Español. And, appropriately, this is definitely where I go to get mountains of produce for a very reasonable price. It is also where I go to practice my Spanglish with the bonita mujeres of register uno. I especially like register one over the other registers because it is where all the taco de ojos cajeras are at and it is right next to the beer. Anyways… Las Montañas is my go-to Mexican market since there aren’t any real«supermercados» in the East Bay like Vallarta or Northgate Gonzáles in Los Angeles. Now despite its«supermarket» name, this market is pretty small. However, like a spicy pepper, bigger is not always better since the smaller peppers tend to be the spiciest… of course that’s what HE said! So… Las Montañas is where I go to buy my limes to make cocktails because they are usually 8 – 10 for a dollar. I also get jicamas from here and of course this is where I buy tomatillos, chiles de árbol, and serranos to make Ricardo’s fantástico salsa. In fact, Las Montañas is the perfect place to stop by to make Taco Tuesdays pinche awesome-o. Additionally, the market has a carniceria that sells everything from marinated meat and Mexican cheese to house-made salsas. And like any reputable Mexican mercado, there is a bakery and a taqueria(I hear the taqueria sucks). The only issue with the market is that parking hella/hecka SUXORZ. Sandwiched between Starbucks and 99 Cents Only Store to the west and the 99 Ranch Market to the east, this shopping center is a clusterfuck of some of the worst drivers. Still, despite the lack of parking, I find myself returning to Las Montañas time and time again because this gringo loves Mexican food and cheap limes. * BTW did you know that there is no universal term for lime in Spanish speaking countries? In Spain they are called limones verdes, in Bolivia limones are green and limas are yellow, in Mexico they are known as limon or lima, and in Chile there is no word for lime! Source:

I tried their taqueria today hungry driving around. Their regular burrito $ 5.99 carne asada is fairly moist and tasty; meat was tender. Comes with side of chips. Then I had the craving for their chicharonnes con carne. Boy, are they huge and cheap price, I believe $ 6.49 per pound. It was hot, crunchy, and juicy just like I wanted them BUT lack the mild saltiness. The reason why for 4 stars. Staff are great and friendly.

I’m already sad that I’m moving away as this is where I was introduced to the *drumroll please* chicharrones burrito. If you’re a texture fiend like me, I like complex and diverse texture components to my food. Sometimes you’ll hear me say. well I wish there was something crunchy or. I wish there was something mushy. Well the chicharrones burrito has it down. Not only in flavor but in components. But before I go into that. Las Montanas Supermarket is in the shopping center with 99 Ranch and Frys and various other shops and restaurants. This is first and foremost a grocery store that caters to the Mexican/Latin American crowd. They have your fruits and veggies as well as a bakery section with cakes and baked goods. Well in the front to the right as you enter is a «food area.» They sell various meats as well as bionicos, drinks and of course mexican food. I came here on a whim to try it out and saw.wait.chicharron is a meat choice?! That’s unheard of! Well it is here. Deep fried pork belly, crispy, crunchy, chewy… on top of a bed of rice, guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream, beans, and lettuce. that’s the burrito bowl which is basically just the super burrito sans wrap. If you’re not needing the guacamole or sour cream, then just go au natural and order a regular burrito. If that’s too much food, which it is, you can just order a taco which is less than $ 2 each. The folks who work here are all very friendly and help you with ordering. They also speak Spanish fluently as is almost expected as that’s the clientele they cater to. Oh Las Montanas, I will miss you, but we had one last big bang that I will always remember.

I really did like this place… I felt like it was the most decent panaderia in the area… they also have good tamales. But today I am super sad because as I cut into my tamale this evening, I found a roach! Don’t know if it was with the chicken or mixed in with the masa but yuck! Will not be back.

Unlike the Las Montanas Supermarket location on Monument( , which has the taqueria in the back of the store, this LMS in the Park N’ Shop Shopping Center has a taqueria at the front of the store. Today they had a churro cart out in front of the store also. We didn’t need to do any grocery shopping at the Supermarket so we headed straight into the taqueria where we were greeted by the friendly cashier. Soft tacos are $ 2 each. I ordered shredded chicken and carnitas and husband had 2 carnitas(I would have ordered shrimp and fish but they weren’t an option). We told the lady which table we planned to dine at and she handed us a basket of chips and mild salsa roja. We also asked for salsa verde, which is a little bit spicier, but not quite as spicy as their hot salsa, which came on the side of my 2 tacos. Tacos were served on 2 medium-sized, fresh corn tortillas. Lots of meat, cilantro, and fresh onion. I’m glad the salsa was on the side because it was hot!(Even for me!) Everything was delicious and we left full and happy.

My go-to place for my Mexican groceries! Fresh pastries and meats! They service is friendly, you don’t have to speak Spanish and they always have a wonderful assortment of fruits and veggies! I have never been disappointed coming here!

I always run in here for my daughters wagon wheels, lime and chile so she can make her favorite corn man concoction. All of the kids love it. The produce is always fresh and they have excellent prices. They do have Pan Dulce but its not my favorite. One cool thing is in the front of the store they usually have a guy out there selling Elote con Vaso which is super yum. In the checkout line on the far left there are hot and fresh tamales, pork, beef and elote. I have tried all three and they are all delicious. There is a small food place on the side of the store which I had never noticed before. I went in and had some tacos. They also have an awesome Chicharone, it is all crispy on top and has meat on the bottom. They set it in a dry jalapeño mix so it picks up a little kick but not too spicy. They are large too so don’t buy too many. Like another Unilocaler I ordered the Bionico(Mexican fruit salad). The fruit was delicious, not overripe. The crema was slightly sweet which pulled it all together. They even let you decide what fruit you want or don’t want in it. I am allergic to strawberries and I do not like papaya. I asked for both of them to be left out and she had no problem with it. I wolfed all of this down and felt like a fat pig, but I couldn’t say no to any of it. It was all so good. As I now go lay on the couch and hope that my guttony is soon relieved.

Went here by chance one day and had one of the best soft tacos I’ve had. They are very generous with the meat. About a month later I needed some catering for a party and found they were reasonably priced. So after calling a few places I decided to go with them. The young lady that helped me(I wish I knew her name) with the catering order was extremely helpful and patient with me while I decided. I was extremely pleased with the food as were all my guests. The salsa and sides they give were so generous. I will definitely use them again for my catering. As well as for a quick bite out.

Yum! This place makes me so happy. For the longest period of time I had been purchasing bread from the bakery, but completely overlooked the tiny restaurant. I came in to the supermarket on an empty stomach and I’m so glad I did, because it made me want to order everything on the menu. Ambiance: Authentic! Mexican music blasting, clean tables and floors, people coming in to pick up tamales and menudo in the early morning. I felt right at home! Very casual environment, if you didn’t catch my drift. Food: I ordered a small bionico(mexican fruit salad) for less than $ 4.00 and a orange carrot juice for about($ 3 – 4.00). The bionico was probably the best I’ve ever had. The fruit was insanely fresh and sweet, I was worried about some of the out of season fruits, but everything was so sweet and delicious. The stuff it to the very top which is also a plus, I shared it with another person, so I know the portion is more than generous. The crema was sweet, but not on the diabetes-sweet level either. I cannot stress how delicious and fresh it was. I watched her use the juicer to make me my drink, so yes, I know that it was fresh and definitely delicious. I have nothing negative to say about my food. Overall: Amazing! I didn’t actually order a meal from the menu, but I enjoyed my fresh food thoroughly. The prices are what you expect to see at your typical Mexican joint, however the portions are very generous for the price. I will definitely become a regular here in no time.

Las Montañas is a great little supermarket for your Latin food needs. They also have a little food center and a bakery on top of their carniceria and their groceries. I have yet to try the offerings in their food center(I try to do my grocery shopping whilst full), but their breads were delicious and I am particularly happy that they have flan in their bakery. And everyone knows that flan is one of the proofs that the universe can be very kind and loving. The employees are usually very helpful as well and it is conveniently located near 99 Ranch Market, which is my usual go to. Because of this, Las Montañas became one of my regular stops when I am doing my grocery shopping. Friendly employees, convenient location, good selections… Is it a wonder I am a fan of theirs?

So I will admit that the take-out place has a great to-go chicken dinner for the family on a night when no one feels like cooking. It’s really a great price and it’s ready in about 10 minutes. The chicken is marinated and cooked to perfection. The Mrs. usually won’t even eat a roasted chicken and loves this one. So why you ask gentle reader did I only give it three stars. Well, they’ve made some unwelcome changes recently to my beloved meal. For starters, they used to give you 32oz of rice and 32 oz of beans, enough for the whole family. Now you only get 16oz of each, so everybody just got a few spoonfuls. They used to take the yummy flour tortillas and warm them on the griddle and then wrap them in foil, now they microwave them and they taste gummy. This reduction is food quantity did not come with a reduction in price. Having said all thatm I’ll have order extra beans and rice and bring the tortillas home and warm them up myself on the stove. Still a great meal, but it costs more and it’s not as convenient. Really very sad with the decision my the owner/manager, but I will console myself with extra drumstick.

I come to this place solely for their freshly made pupusas. Pork and cheese please. It also comes with chips and salsa. I’ve gotten their chicharones as well. Yummie. It can get busy during lunch. Situated in Park N Shop, and it just seems to always be busy. If you know what you want, you can call your order in and it’s usually ready in about 10−15mins. I admit, I’ve never really shopped the market except for their large pastry selection. I usually avoid it because I’ll end up getting quite a few.

I tried the pupusas with cheese and pork, not bad at all. They are not the best I’ve had, but they didn’t steer me away from coming back in the future. As for being a grocery store, they have everything you would want while shopping in a Spanish mindset, lol. I love the fact that they have their mini-restaurant, the prices are fair and the employees are very kind. I grew up on Spanish cuisine and am still finding new meals I have not tried. I always enjoy exploring the culture f each new placeI travel. This small business did not let me down in my travels. So, if you are looking for a quick bite on the run, or to shop tip you drop, Spanish-style, this is the place for you!

We really like this market. We usually don’t buy much here as we don’t come to the area for grocery trips. But when in the vicinity, we can’t resist a quick trip inside to grab a few quick, non perishable items. This is a great place to pick up some authentic Mexican take out, Café de Olle(really good) or items from the panaderia. The panaderia is quite authentic and the baked goods delicious. Authentic Mexican store. Excellent prices on produce and Mexican items to go. Parking can be a pain here, mostly because of the neighboring Ranch 99. It is a big lot though. We always find something.

Walnut Creek must be the biggest city in Northern California to NOT have a mexican grocery store. Concord though, has a few options like Rancheros but this store always has me coming back. They have a good salsa bar, fully stocked meat counter, and don’t get me started on the bakery. For $ 3 you can get a mini-tres leches cake that is big enough to share, that is if you don’t want the whole thing for yourself. I can see why they have those trays there to load up goodies on, their churros, conchas and bolillo rolls are also worth a try. So are their tamales, on the way out I usually grab one, or five. Park-n-Shop can be hard to navigate through to get there, and the aisles are a little small, only drawbacks to this hidden gem.

All things mexican! The produce department is fresh and clean and the prices are the best around! Often I get great limes 10/$ 1. When we need supplies for Ponch de Navidad this is the place to go. I have also eaten in the Taqueria upfront and have been pleased with the tacos. What did I learn today? Buy two cokes in a bottle. They will open one for now and keep the other for at home.

You are missing out big time if you haven’t tried the Mexican food at Las Montanas Market. I have eaten there a few times now and I don’t think I have ever had a bad meal there. You will not find a fancy dining area or beautiful blonde servers working there, just delicious and authentic Mexican food. Yes sir/ma’am! Their stuff is inexpensive. Two of my go-to items are their super burritos($ 5.75) and the family carnitas combo($ 10.99). The carnitas combo comes with a pound of pork, a pound of rice, a pound of beans, a dozen tortillas, and other fixings. They really give you a lot of food there. Why go to those California-style burrito joints when you can get such good food for cheap?

In the true spirit of a Mexican Super Market this place has it all. A restaurant(not to be confused with the one further down the strip, this is just a counter with a couple of seats), the best Panaderia ever, mexican style carniceria, yummy tamales, a jewelery/fragrance vendor, and a check cashing/money gram/pharmacy, all well stocked with your favorite Mexican items. I grew up with this store. I member back when they were across the street from the Brenden Theatres in what is now Pizza Man Pizza. Now they are all grown up located in the old Smart and Final. I know they are starting to show their age a little but hey its what’s on the inside that counts. And what is on the inside you ask? Well, only my favorite Chorizo Platter and Breakfast Burrito, super fresh fruit smoothies, seasoned roasted chicken, trays full of self serve daily made tamales, a freezer bin full of Bay Point’s own Guanatos popsicles, the best Mexican candy section I have seen(located at customer service), an extensive selection of Mexican Rx products including arnica, crema de la campana, and herbal teas, plus my favorite panaderia ever. Now, lets talk for a moment about their pan dulce… okay, now that I am done drooling I can tell you about how amazing their hot bolillos and panes dulces are baked every morning and evening. If you plan your trip you can get them all hot and fresh out of the oven. In fact my Mom and I love to go buy bread early in the morning and walk over to Starbucks grab some coffee and sit there and eat it while it is still hot. Some of my favorites are the tortuga, concha, empanadas de crema, elotitos and most of all the shortbread pink cookie! I live for these. What I love most about all of their pan is that it is NOT super greasy. Their conchas are not dense and oily(like the ones at mi Pueblo), they do not seep through the bag. The concha breads are light and puffy. They take me back to my fond memories of Tijuana as a kid. Okay, I gotta go kill my diet over some pan dulce, later. XOXO
