Custom Built Personal Training

I have been a member at in Shape for 2 years. I decided to hear what they had to say at Custom Built. I sat with the «Manager» and he told me I was in the danger zone, bla bla bla… he was a good talker dont get me wrong. So I got sucked in for only about an hour. I signed the contract came home did some research and found NOTHING good! Spoke to my husband and he said Heck NO they got you… go back and cancel. I went back and Patrick proceeded to tell me that I will look exactly the way I do in two months then come back to him and sign up. WHAT??? RUDE! He proceeded to be agressive with me in front of other people in a very unprofessional manner and walks away… comes back with a picture of a 60 year old man who lost 90 lbs in 3 months using Custom Built. He told me he would tear up my contract but I needed him basicly in other words. (Im mid 30’s and about 30lbs over weight) yea I could use some guidance… but I sure dont want it from Custom Built! He even said «oh what did you do go read Unilocal?» Damn right. Word of mount matters. Everything was witnessed by staff that seemed a little thrown back by this awkward situation. I contacted in Shape corproate, and Custom Built corporate. Obviously i went to them because I needed help but now that I did I feel worse. Dont waste your time with this unprofessional company. Damn… no wonder they have so many bad reviews on Unilocal.This didnt help them thats for sure. Custom Built to Break you down and Break your bank.

I have a trainer «Kristie» at In Shape Concord and love her. Also, there is Jerry who’s really good. If you’re looking for trainers from In shape or (custom built) use one of them. They are most reliable and they care about their clients. Now just trying to get the cost down so I can keep going!!!

TERRIBLE! That’s all I have to say. I signed up with In-​Shape back in early January 2011, and then signed up for training because I was getting married in September 2011. My trainer has been Mauricio R. who has been awesome! I completed my first year of training and I used to go 4 times a month. After the wedding and completing the contract my trainer asked if I wanted to continue training. At first I hesitated but then I thought it would be a good idea but not 4 times a month, so I renewed the contract for another year but twice a month. Everything was great for the first 4-months…I have a heart condition that makes my rhythim go a bit erratic and I dehydrate easily so I constantly have to keep drinking water, and Mauricio was totally accommodating. However, around May I started developing stomach issues that’s making it difficult for my digestive system to absorb nutrients so I have been exhausted beyond belief. I kept postponing my sessions, and Mauricio was always great at rescheduling me until I guess he thought I just didn’t want to reschedule because I haven’t heard from him. My credit card then expired at the end of June, so Custom Built emailed me wanting my new expiration date. I used the opportunity to explain that I wanted to cancel my contract because due to a condition I wasn’t able to exert myself. The lady a Mrs. Hall from the Atlanta headquarters emailed me and was kind to say she was sad to hear I wasn’t doing good health wise, and that in order to cancel my contract I would need a medical release form filled out by my doctor. I told her that I would be seeing my doctor the following week. My doctor was glad to fill the document and she indicated that my condition was to last 6 – 12 months starting June 1, 2012. I faxed and Mrs. Hall said it was received. I thought it was a bit easy, but I was relieved. I came back from lunch about 3-​hours later and a man named Jose left me a message saying that they had received a medical form stating that my condition was NOT permanent; therefore, they could not cancel my contract. I was totally upset and could not believe what he had said. I called their number and he explained the same thing… I told him how dishonest they were being, because my doctor had stated that I had a condition that would not let me train for 6−12months, but he then said that the way they interpreted the form was that it could not necessarily last 12-​months and that at best they could postpone my payments untill I was healthy enough. I told him that she wrote that because it could last between 6−12months but in reality we don’t know as my condition has kind of gotten worse. After a long exchange of differing opinions with this man, I said I would talk to my doctor and see if she could change the form. He said that would be OK, and that the other option would be to break the contract which would cost me something like $ 250 and then still have to pay August dues! That’s the moment I got really upset at their insensitivity. We ended the call by me saying that I would contact my doctor.
Thankfully I had saved my emails with Mrs. Hall, and in it she stated that the way to cancel my contract would be by filling out a medical release from my doctor saying my condition «could last up to 12-​months» so, I immediately called Jose and said exactly what the representative had stated on her own email. He still wanted to argue the point about the 6-​months… so, I insisted that if my doctor knew my condition would last 6 or7 months then she would have stated so. After a few minutes of this back and forth argument he said he would take it to his supervisor… that was Thursday of last week… I have not gotten any call back nor any email. So PLEASE stay away from these people! The trainers seem to be nice, and I have no complaints about Mauricio and In-​Shape is a good gym in my opinion, but Custom Built stinks in their business practices! Do NOT sign up. I was a PREVIOUS EMPLOYEE of this company, but only for a short term after realizing these people are crooks. The sales managers dont give a sh*t about you, your health or your wallet. All they care about is digging deep into your pockets for a high invoiced sale so they can make a higher percent on their commisions. Thats right, their paychecks are based on how much money they can get out of you! You WILL be stuck with a contract and if you ever need to cancel… well good luck because you cant get through to anyone for customer service and they will charge you a $ 250.00 dollar fee. The company will also try to fool vulnerable people by using a body fat tester that tells you your in the «danger zone» … this is a scare tactic, dont buy into that BS… the company doesnt care about the level of eduacation the sales «managers» have… all they care about is their sale skills, which is why they have weekly meetings on learning to make people like you say YES when it comes to handing over your VISA. If its that hard to believe, well go see for yourself… You’ll go to your apt and hear how much you can benefit from their training program because you are overweight and about to die, then do a workout with them… go back into their dungeon office and then have high dollar pricing slammed in your face. I actually had a great trainer, but after we moved over 400 miles away we were left with a withdrawal of $ 140.00 and unable to cancel the contract without a lease agreement/​utility bill (they do not accept ATT as a utility bill). So, I left early to find employment and because I actually hadnt moved in yet we waited a month and a half to cancel contract and then had to wait for a utility bill. This is the WORST cancellation experience I have ever had! BAD BAD BAD BAD Business!!!

I would not recommend this personal training. They gave me a gimmicky speech about what the training would provide and that it would be better than any other personal training I have done so I signed up. They said my trainer would work with me on nutrition — she did not. They said my trainer would do «weigh-​ins» every month and evaluate where I’m at — she did not. I felt rushed through my ½ hour sessions. I got injured and my trainer wouldn’t listen to me when I said something hurt. As a result, I am trying to recover 3 months later from my injury. In most cases you have to commit to a full year, which I did. You can cancel but for a large fee and you have to give them 30 days notice prior to your next automatic withdrawal from your account. You can cancel for medical reasons or relocation but it seemed easier to just pay the money rather than going through hassel and missing my 30 day window. If you do decide to do this, ask for a ‘free’ session with the trainer they will assign you up with first before you decide. Be cautious and don’t commit to a year!

This business does not even deserve one star. I tried cancelling this service and can not get through to anyone. Nothing left to say except this company sucks!

This is one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. I’ve been trying to cancel this service ever since I signed up w/​no success. When I signed up I was told that I would be buying sessions and that I could cancel at any time. So not the case! I was told to send a certified letter to Georgia, did that — no reply. I googled custom built, and found the website with phone numbers and an email address to cancel the service… Sent an e-​mail to no reply. The phone numbers don’t work either. I finally resorted to placing a stop payment on my bank account and they turn around and submit a falsified form to my bank stating that I was updating my draft information. Now on Christmas Eve, I’m left almost overdrawn, and having to file a claim with my bank to try and get my money back.

I signed up with Inshape in Stockton and had no desire to even get a pesonal trainer. After they presented me with «great savings» my friend and I signed up, They were quick to take the money out of our account but NEVER did we receive services. We kept contacting them and were told «they’d call us back». That call NEVER came after a month of waiting!!! When we signed up for this service I asked about canceling because I would be moving across the US and they said both my friend and I will be able to cancel with no problem. Or if we are unhappy we could cancel. So when I told them I wanted to cancel I was told to send a letter to their office in GA, which I did. To find out it will cost me $ 250 (thats with her waiving a last draft fee) to cancel! Everything already paid is non-​refundable and does not apply to the cancellation fee. THEIR SERVICES ARE A HOAX!

I don’t know where to begin. I’ve never connected with a business that had such poor management. I tried numerous times to resolve many issues I had but no one cared, listened or returned my calls. If you want to throw away money then take a chance. You would be better off reading a book on health and exercise!
