First Creek is a nicely maintained park, not real big, and not many frills, but a good place for my Annie to expend some energy safely. There are some tunnels for agility training and a paved trail around the perimeter. The grounds are mostly large gravel, so the potential for mud is limited. However, there were some puddles(I don’t think my dog likes to get muddy, though, since she avoided them!). We were the only people and dog there on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. This must be a well-kept secret. It would be nice to have other dogs for her to frolic with. But it is just minutes from my home, and I’m grateful that we have a nice place for her to run around and play.

We’ve been visiting dog parks in the area, and this one didn’t disappoint. Nice big area for the dogs to run and us to walk. The park was not busy while we were there, so if you’re looking to socialize your dog, bring a friend with you, or hope one comes along :-)

First off, MAKESURE your Unilocal directions link is taking you here(the red dot). Mine, for some reason, is leading me to a random spot In the middle of the wildlife refuge, while the«red dot» final destination is nowhere near the directions destination… IDK. I finally googled it and found correct directions. Anyway, I’ve only been when it was pretty empty, but the park itself is surrounded by cornfields and pretty serene. The small dog side is fairly small, doesn’t have as much shade, and the water fountain is on the big side. On the plus side, neither side is muddy because it’s pea gravel. In nice weather grass is best, but we came after HEAVY rain and there was almost no mud. There were big puddles all over, but they were clear water. So it’s a nice option in bad weather to not have a dog covered in mud. The main downside when I came was lots of weeds, but luckily not many off the bad sticky ones, just mainly foxtails that are easy to pick off.(I’m a little paranoid about weeds since my dog incurred a $ 2100 vet bill to remove a TINY grass awn he inhaled once :/) Also, you have to walk THROUGH the big dog side to access the small section. This could create an issue if aggressive dogs were present.

A shame more people don’t know about this hidden gem located in an out of the way place in Commerce City. Beautiful park with shaded benches, small dog area, and a seasonal dog water and human water spigot. Large shade trees along the First Creek(no dog access to the creek though). Park is pea gravel with an accessible sidewalk along the eastern half from the entrance to the drinking water area. Lots of concrete drain tubes for the dogs to run around and inside and waste bags and receptacles are provided. Human port-a-potty at the path entrance to the park. Plenty of parking. Come on out and visit! This park needs more PR so more dogs will come here and we won’t have to drive to the Thornton park just to socialize our dogs! A special thanks to the volunteer group who comes here and periodically makes clean up rounds for those less considerate. They add to the enjoyment level of the park immensely! A very special find within Commerce City! The park also has a Facebook Page.
