My whole family has been going to Granny’s for years. This was my first time back in a while. I love their ice cream and frozen diet ice cream. It’s very rich and creamy. I had a chocolate and vanilla swirl in a wafer cone and loved it.

I have to say that when I first found out about this shop a few years ago, I was so excited. As a Vegan — there really aren’t many places to get something refreshing on a hot day while you are out and about. I live about 40 out of the Commack area — but at first I thought it was worth it. The last 3 times that I have gone there, I have been very very disappointed. They don’t make the Vegan Ice cream all of the time. The first time, the Vegan barrels were completely empty — the 2nd and 3rd times the barrel has very little left. When I asked the girl behind the counter about it — all I got was an «oh well». I will not be going back there again.

Tried Granny’s for the first time. Have heard really good things about their ice cream. Tasted the Mint Chip & Dbl Choc Chip. Both tasted really good(creamy texture & excellent chips). Got a small size of the Dbl. Choc Chip($ 4.18 including Tax). Was a good amount for a small. The ice cream was really, really good. They have a lot of flavors all homemade. They also have Soft serve, Vegan & Gluten free. Will definitely go back to try other flavors again.

The prices alone at this place will already have you coming back from more. Less expensive than your average ice cream shop, and double the tastiness! I love to come to this place with my mom because she can actually enjoy herself by ordering their gluten free goods! Granny’s has really set themselves apart by offering soy based products. They even have punch cards! Great incentive for when I come back… because I can assure you… ILLBEBACK :)

Love that they have the weight watchers points for each size of the«Only 8». When I want full flavor /full fat soft serve I go for the choc/vanilla custard. OMG! to die for. I moved to from Smithtown to Deer Park, and I travel back to Smithtown/Commack to get my fix in the summer.

I want to urge you to read all the other reviews. There are all right on target about the quality of the ice cream and the number of different types of ice cream and flavors. However the other reviews don’t mention the price. Cheaper then Baskin & Robins and Carvel and they also have a punch card. Buy 10 and get one. The down side of Granny’s is reflected by my excessive weight. This is where I get my fix which I guess is better then drugs or alcohol

I’ve been quite a few times before I saw this on Unilocal,I always assumed it was in Southern Commack near Motor Parkway. But its actually located in the Northgate shopping center between Campa Pizza and a Haircut place. This place has a lot variety in ice cream as well as non dairy ice cream. It’s relatively cheap and better than a Baskin Robbins. I believe their’s a $ 10 minimum for cc’s. I did get the Coffee Mud Pie coming off my Coyle’s ice cream high in Islip, it was good but Coyle’s is really on another level.

EXCEPTIONAL! Any type of frozen treat you want, they have it: soy options, gluten free options, lactose-intolerant options, sugar free ice cream, full on creamy ice cream in a large variety of delicious and unique flavors, very good and rather authentic gelato(based on my experiences in Europe), fat free frozen yogurt, and pre-made frozen dipped cones, cookie sandwiches, mini mini mini cones, and tiered ice cream cakes. But my absolute FAVORITE option is one you can’t get pretty much anywhere else on the island, or even in NYC — the elusive frozen-yogurt product called«Only 8.» Only 8 is special because its preservative free, good for lactose intolerants, doesn’t use refined sugar OR sugar free sweeteners, has natural flavors, and is undoubtedly lower in calories than any other«low calorie» froyo on the market: roughly 8 calories per ounce, meaning 32 calories per 4 ounce/half cup serving, as opposed to 25 – 30 calories per ounce, or 100 – 120 calories per half cup as found at Red Mango, Pinkberry, Tasti d’Lite, Sixteen Handles, or almost any other place. But the real reason for Only 8’s name is that it’s made using just eight all– natural ingredients. BUTBACKTOGRANNY’S! Granny’s makes it special because they always have three to four cool flavors. I always try to get something new, but my favorite is Chocolate Banana. The last thing I’ll say about Granny’s is that the service is so friendly and personal. It’s family-run, and the owners take the time to remember you and learn you’re name if you’re a regular. Try it out as soon as you get the chance — and definitely bring your friends.

This place always has a a great selection of STOGO vegan ice cream, which is the only reason my girlfriend and I ever go. The staff is always very pleasant and you can sample any flavor before purchasing. It’s great to see a local ice cream shop offer vegan options. I think it’d be even better if they offered a vegan milkshake option, using the STOGO ice cream with say, almond or soy milk. And vegan whipped cream! Those are really more suggestions than complaints though. Tasty stuff nonetheless!

Decided to check this place out after reading another Unilocaler’s review. I used to work in the area and was looking forward to seeing what this place was all about. It’s hard not to notice the sign in the front window that says Vegan Ice cream. Place had a great selection of soy and coconut based ice cream.

The #1 reason why I love Granny’s is… they have VEGANICECREAM! Granny’s has big signs on its window and by the curb with VEGAN&GLUTEN-FREE written on them in giant block letters. That was my first clue. Inside, it’s a typical row shop ice cream parlor that doesn’t feel all that different from stepping into a Carvel’s, but for the one small freezer closest to to the door that contains coconut and soy based ice creams from STOGO. STOGO has a shop on the LES, but apparently they are also distributing their wares, and by some grace of God, some of that wound up in Commack. —- This website has a listing of all the STOGO flavors. However, not all of these are to be found at Granny’s. They don’t have any of the hemp-based flavors. For the coconut-based, I’ve seen almond joy, chocolate, key lime, strawberry & vanilla. For the soy-based, I’ve seen bananas foster, chocolate fudge brownie, mint chocolate chip & salted caramel. They are almost always out of the chocolate fudge brownie, and on my last visit I had a flavor not listed on this website, which was coconut sugar cookie dough and very delicious! I’ve read other reviews comparing STOGONYC to its nearby vegan ice cream store, Lulu’s Sweet Apothecary. I’ve been to Lulu’s and it’s true, they might be tops. But more to the point, STOGO is great, even if slightly less lush by a degree, and the store owner of Granny’s has told me that it’s been a big attraction to customers and good for business. Much of the clientele has been drawn in by the gluten-free and low-fat aspects. Ultimately, when I crave ice cream and want the ‘trip to the ice cream parlour’ experience, it’s wonderful as a vegan to have someplace nearby that satisfies my sugar cravings. As a kid, I always had a Friendly’s less than a minute away and I was beginning to wonder if I would ever have a similar luxury in my life again. Now, I do(though slightly farther for me). It’s hard to resist going twice a week, but at around $ 5 for a small size with sprinkles(about the price of a pint of vegan ice cream in the store), I do need to show some restraint. Other than price(which was really to be expected) the only downside of Granny’s, from the vegan environmentalist perspective, is the store’s lacking eco-consciousness. My joy for the ice cream is always slightly tempered at the sight of the styrofoam container it’s served in and the negligent, standard-issue accoutrements: plastic spoons and tasting spoons, and plastic lids. Otherwise, I do recommend supporting the local vegan ice cream. Maybe they will expand their flavor line and perhaps other stores will follow suit.
