Jorge’s smile will make you want to buy a million tacos. Super nice guy, his truck is squeaky clean, and the food is yummy. I particularly enjoyed the chorizo tacos and chicken tacos, and I’ll go back for those + I’m looking forward to trying the lengua tacos.(The taco al pastor was decent too, certainly not a disappointment, but it’s hard to beat Los Gauchos Taqueria for tacos al pastor.) If you’re even remotely a fan of melted cheese, the quesadilla is a sleeper hit on Taqueria Jalisco’s menu. It was the best chicken quesadilla I’ve had in a long time – the cheese was melty and luscious, not gummy at all, and the marinated chicken flavor still shone through. It’s also one of the few items on the menu made with flour tortillas instead of corn tortillas, so it has a distinctly different texture and shape compared to the tacos. During the 15 minutes it took to make my food, I saw several people roll up to pick up their call-ahead orders. I’ll probably follow suit next time. Since it was 15 degrees outside, Jorge suggested that I wait in the car for my order to be done. He yelled and waved when my order was ready, which was great since I wasn’t paying attention! Re: finding this truck, you can see the big red truck very clearly if you’re coming southbound on Cleveland – it’s at the intersection of Cleveland and Abingdon, a big red truck parked parallel to a white building – but if you’re coming northbound on Cleveland, it’s practically invisible behind the white building. So just look for the intersection of Cleveland and Abingdon, turn right onto Abingdon, and the truck is immediately on your left.

Let me first start off by saying that I was born and raised in a border town in Texas where my family and I would make weekly trips to Mexico for church and food. Both of my parents were born and raised in Mexico so Mexican food was just about an everyday thing growing up. That all being said… This place does not disappoint! My wife and I just left Texas in June and have found comfort in this truck. We travel 20 minutes from out home just to eat here. 7 months in Columbus and this is by far the most authentic Mexican food we’ve found. The salsas are amazing and not tomato blasted like most Americanized Mexican restaurants. The tacos speak for themselves. Go inside next door and order a liquado(or milk shake). SOOO delicious! My wife loves their corn in a cup. We typically order that while our tacos are being made. This place could survive on the streets of Mexico as a top eatery. Two thumbs up!!!

I literally drive past a handful of other taco trucks while traveling south on Cleveland Ave. to get to this place. I love it. Typically I just stick with tacos but in the past they’ve had some really cool dishes on the weekend like birra de chivo(goat stew). Making tacos isn’t rocket science but these guys have a PhD in it. Outstanding meats that are flavorful and well season, good sauces to top them with and great service. They speak both English and Spanish every time I’ve been there so don’t be intimidated if you don’t speak much Spanish. Take cash, enjoy the food and you can stop in the place they are next to for a smoothie when you’re done.

I actually came across an article in a Spanish newspaper mentioning Taqueria Jalisco and its tacos del pastor. For the next week, I looked for the taco truck while driving north along Cleveland Ave. It wasn’t until I finally spotted it while driving south along Cleveland, as it’s partially hidden from the other direction and therefore easy to miss unless you are looking over your shoulder while driving. For those mapping it, it’s at the corner of Cleveland and Abington. There is a small 5 or 6-car parking lot, but street parking is also available on Abington. The first time I came, I decided to try 2 each of chicken, steak, and pork(carnitas). The lady who took my order also suggested I try the marinated pork(pastor), since they had just cooked some up. While it was good, I don’t think it measures up to the carnitas. After a few more trips here, I finally decided to give it a go on the lengua(beef tongue). I enjoyed it so much(very tender) that I convinced my unadventurous friends to try it as well. They even agreed(reluctantly) that it was delicious.(Note: there is a .25 extra charge/item for lengua, but it is worth it.) I will say that I have only ordered tacos here, but I highly recommend them to anyone who enjoys Mexican food. My favorites are the carnitas and lengua, while the chicken is also quite good. At $ 1.25 each, you can try each if you’d like. Know that they are on the small side, so count on ordering 4 – 5(or more, if you’re a big eater like me). The service here has always been friendly, no matter what day/time I’ve been here. There are two picnic-style benches located right behind the truck. Also, while they serve various bottled sodas, the market directly behind the taco truck offers almost anything you’d like to drink as well.

Taqueria Jalisco, I miss you soooo much. You are maybe the one thing that makes me miss Cbus. BESTMEXICAN food in Cbus. The pork is so tender and flavorful. They have great tacos, tortas and mulitas. I tried the lengua… I wasn’t that excited about it but I would try it again. I’m sure it’s an acquired taste.

This is my neighborhood taco truck, so I’m probably a little partial but this place seriously brings it: Good, honest tacos for cheap. What’s not to love? They actually serve more than just tacos, but that’s all I ever get. Do yourself a favor and try the lengua. It will change the way you feel about beef tongue.
