Martha’s Soul Food Bistro

Formerly Olive Garden, this building was nicely transformed but it seems «Martha» doesn’t really know what «she» wants this place to be; a restaurant, a bar, a dance hall, a night club (in my vernacular, there ARE differences in a bar and night club)
Their recent troubles have brought this place down. The food is decent but now it’s hardly available unless you are here Friday nights.
In the Fall 2011 I have been on such Friday nights to step. They call this night Hush. The early part of the evening there is a live band, then DJs play the appropriate music for those over 35! I love to Chicago step so this night is always enjoyable. In stepping the couples have a «lane» to dance in but somehow this often conflicts with those that are not stepping. The non-​steppers want to be all over the dance floor and disrespect the given lane we steppers are trying to maintain.
Yes, the bartenders are cute but horrible. They certainly don’t seem to want a tip because they don’t work for it. Too busy socializing. I also think the drinks are watered down.
The afternoon we «checked in» I found the ladies room to be unkempt. There were no more than 30 people in the establishment at the time, most ladies, but could these ladies be that trifling and the ones responsible for tearing up the bathroom as it appeared to be when I entered it?
Detroit Ballroom (urban ballroom) lessons are given every other Saturday afternoon for a mere $ 5 per lesson. You certainly get your money’s worth in the two hours the two gentlemen are instructing.

the food was pretty good (love the grippo flavored chicken wings), drinks were also very nice along with the atmosphere. the entertainment could have been better though.

Horrible horrible horrible bartenders drinks service… I mean 15 min for crown and coke and she still came back to ask me what I wanted? Seriously? They charge $ 10 to get in, breakfast looked mediocre, meats were dry looking but the omlettes, yes they looked scrumptious, will not deny… Oh and of course their debit machines were down

Cool place. Wow what a transformation from Olive Garden! A very nice a grown up spot. Cool place to lounge sit back and let your hair down. If your a stepper come on Friday night. Live band for Hush.
