As a travel writer and avid personal traveller, I enjoy exploring new cities and find myself drawn to the public art, which is why I’m making the effort to review tha handful of sculptures and public art peices located around Columbus. We don’t have much, but what there is, reflects our heritage and history, including a few pieces situated throughout downtown. This particular sculpture is situated in front of COSI. At first glance it might look like a Native American, but it actually depicts Lucas Sullivant(1765 – 1823), the fouding father of Franklinton, which later became the city of Columbus. You’ll find this statue in Genoa Park, along Washington Boulevard south of Broad Street. It shows Sulivant, a colonial surveyor, gazing out over the Scioto River opposite downtown Columbus, where he would eventually establish the capital of Ohio.
