I had occasion to be in Columbus, Georgia for six weeks for work. The thought of living without seeing my husband and our twins for more than a month made me, well, sad. I decided they must come with, and so began our relationship with Greystone. After scouring the internet and ten or more emails back and forth with their leasing office, we decided on a corporate apartment on River Road. It was perfect — a beautiful layout with two bedrooms and a small porch and within walking distance of a pool and a playground. And it was only five minutes from the hotel that I needed to stay at for work. I filled out most of the paperwork while in Chicago, and we picked up the keys the morning we arrived in Columbus.
My husband loved the place, and so did the kids. Everything was arranged for us — utilities, phone, internet, and the apartment was clean. There was one minor maintenance issue that Greystone itself discovered while cleaning the place prior to our move-​in, and they fixed it within a day and over the weekend, without us having to remind them. Every day, my husband would send me pictures of the kids running around in the grass just off the porch or rolling around on the living room floor. They were in love with the new space (and the weather), and I was so glad that I decided to spend the money to keep my family near, even if I couldn’t see them very much.
Fast forward three days: my need to be in Columbus for six weeks for work suddenly and unceremoniously disappears, and we have to go back to Chicago. But what of the arrangements I had just made with Greystone? It seems I have just forked over far too much money for three days’ housing.
But no! You see, these folks are Georgians! Although they made no promises when I asked whether it was possible to get any portion of our money refunded, I received a refund check in the mail two weeks later.
My family will be living here again next year when we return — although we hope it will be for more than three days!
