Gateway is THE reason I love Columbus. If you enjoy independent movies, classic throwbacks, documentaries, or mainstream hits – Gateway offers them. The sound is always perfect, which I’ve never experienced at any other theater. They have a bar! Bring your student ID and don’t forget to validate parking if you park in the garage. The Torpedo Room is their little under-the-sea themed restaurant(look left of the concession stand) with nice servers and vegan options! If you see more than four-five movies a month it is undoubtedly worthwhile to buy a membership. It’s a great deal. Only negative thing: Their website is a little wonky and difficult to navigate daily/weekly showtimes.

Amazing film center. Great selection of independent features. Cool art in the hallways. Really great staff as well. I wish they had a place like this closer to me because I would frequent it for sure. Alas. it will be a fun place to visit on occasion when a movie is playing there that’s not playing in this area.

Unexpectedly cool independent movie house with a wide selection of fringe, sort-of– fringe, way-out-there, and classic screenings right in the middle of the OSU bustle. Like other reviews said, the people there see passionate about movies. It must be a cool place to work. When I was there they had a local artist’s work on display and promoted it during the trailers. It was a nice community touch. Popcorn was fresh even for a late movie midweek during spring break. Smaller screens don’t bother me at all, but I might enjoy seeing Star Wars in a different kind of setting.

How have I NEVER seen a movie here? Please don’t judge. I live on the east side so I have the Drexel to appease my hunger for independent cinema. The Oscars are my Super Bowl so had to see Room last weekend before the big ceremony. The Gateway was the only place showing this film, among many other limited release movies. This theatre is clean, and the staff clearly passionate about their jobs. From the person who sold me my ticket who raved about the movie and made sure to explain how to use my parking validation, to the friendly gentleman who patiently walked me through the best choice of draft beers(because I wasn’t expecting to have any beer and then I saw about 16 taps of everything awesome to enjoy while I watch my movie!), I was impressed. Great viewing experience and love the little bar called the Torpedo Room where you can relax before or after(or during, I suppose) your film. Parking and a movie ticket for $ 10 to boot! All of my thumbs(two) up as far as they will stretch!

One of the most beautiful college campus theaters I’ve never seen! Most of the auditorium is are small… As in 24 seats! Prices are more reasonable than a for profit theater also. Both independent films are shown as well asolder movies in full 35 mm.

One of my favorite places to see films. I love how they play old movies for special events and the film series they do. One of my favorite memories was going for the«Double Barrel» western movie even they did in the summer the last few years. Seeing one of my favorite Mel Brooks films«Blazing Saddles» on the big screen was a childhood dream come true. They continue to have events like that which bring be bake all the time. The craft beer selection is also choice ;).

I’m terrified that this place will go out of business because there never seems to be anybody here. For me, that’s a serious plus, but I hope they make enough money to remain open. The Gateway is great, especially if you can use the student discount. It’s not just an art house theater: I saw Fury Road here and loved it, but I can also catch indie releases(this was the only theater in town that showed Inherent Vice when it came out). They show older films periodically, too. Next year they’re showing a Miyazaki film a week from January to May. They serve beer on the premises, and the macaroni and cheese is mixed with goldfish. What more do you need in a movie theater?

My favorite place to catch movies! Everything I would want in a theater: great choices in movies, whether throwback films, special events, blockbusters or more esoteric films. The beer selection is fantastic and reasonably priced, and unlike a lot of theaters, they also have coffee and tea if I need to wake up a bit before a longer film. Parking is easy and only costs $ 1 prepaid at the ticket counter. Keep an eye out for special events, too! GFC is always up to something interesting.

Mixed feelings on this theater. I’ll start with the pros: — Several different sized theaters in this downtown/campus establishment — While they do show several of the new, mainstream movies, they offer several opportunities to catch independent and foreign films — This theater shows the occasional advanced screenings so you can see it before the masses — Plenty of restaurants and shops within close proximity, making shopping and eating readily accessible — Multiple parking options, from meters to a parking garage Things I’m not feeling so much: — Campus crowds(sometimes I have little tolerance for ignorant, obnoxious«adults») — No FREE public parking($ 1 for three hours in the garage, or meters till 10pm) — A track history of not having a good restaurant above the concessions

Nice independent theater that shows lots of indie films! It’s weird seeing films here after having taken a film class that met in one of the the theaters, but the Gateway is always enjoyable. They put an emphasis on playing limited release films that aren’t available elsewhere while still showing major releases, and they often hold special events, like their annual 24-hour screening of Groundhog Day. They have a range of beers available, along with some items from the neighboring Torpedo Room to take in the theater with you. Also, all students(even if you’re not an OSU student) get discounted tickets! The theaters are in pretty good shape, and they just redid much of the hallways to hold an art exhibit, which shows their desire to be a little bit different. Definitely worth a visit if you somehow haven’t already!

I really love Gateway. Everything from the cozy lounge to the eclectic snack bar to the snugly and comfortable theaters are all pluses for me. Heck, even the escalator feels like part of the experience(as opposed to AMC Easton’s for some reason). Every time I have been, which hasn’t been too often since it’s a good 25 minute drive from my house, I have tried something new at the snack counter. Last night, it was the Ohio nachos(not a mess like some theaters … ahem, Pickerington). Delicious! The mac & cheese bowl sounds awesome too and I can’t wait to try it on my next trip. The prices here are very affordable(paid just $ 6 for a midnight ticket last night) and the people seem both nice and really decent. Even the bathrooms are interesting(old timey-looking posters above the urinals). My only complaint with Gateway is the building is shared with a raucous Ugly Tuna bar. And with that, a gaggle of cops standing outside the door(almost blocking the entrance into the theater part). For those of us who really feel uncomfortable around police, it helps that some of them are very attractive, though. All in all, Gateway is my favorite movie house in the center of town.

This is a great theater to see a big budget Hollywood film or your hard to find indie film that is in black and white with Tom cruise laying roof in Guatemala. They also show older films which is a delight. So for all my beer drinkers out there they have some pretty decent beers on draft, and a bar area(torpedo room) to enjoy your beer before the show. You can also take your drink into the theater so no worries. Parking can suck, but they have a parking garage that is close and many restaurants in the area to enjoy a pre or post movie meal.

I LOVE this place! It’s not just your average theatre. They do first run movies but also do the classics and have different events throughout the year like art showings and short films. What I like MOST about it is that it is clean and the people are ALWAYS friendly. The seats are pretty comfy too. We got free popcorn today for what appeared to be no reason? Score! Occasionally you might run into a drunk OSU student(It’s on campus and they serve alcohol) but that has only happened to us once and we go A LOT. My only complaint would be the parking. Being on campus, the best place to park is in the garage. They will validate your ticket for $ 1 though. I always get Gateway coupons online and they don’t typically make you wait the 2 weeks or whatever it is for passes. We are big fans!

I think this theatre meets every need out there, which is why I give it 5 stars. Let’s face it, they have a great location, attached to several bars and restaurants in a downtown-type of area across the street from the OSU campus. I like this theatre because it has the benefits of an independent art-house theatre AND large chain theatre. It’s not too pretentious like some art-house theatres can feel and it’s not too corporate like some large chain theatres can feel. The movies are reasonably priced and so are the concessions. They have your typical movie concessions and also have a bar if you’re into that sort of thing. They show independent movies as well as the large-scale movie releases and they have a trivia night in the bar. They also show popular TV shows on occasion. I appreciated that when I talked to the man working concessions(he asked me which movie I was seeing), it was very clear that he loved movies and wanted to share that with me by engaging me in conversation about it. It’s the little things sometimes, you know? They’ll validate your parking in the back garage for only $ 1!

I love this place. It has marquee movies and it has independent films. It shows popular TV series live. It shows classic movies(often with themes such as a beer pairing). I even saw all of the Oscar’s nominated shorts here for one price which was fun. Its clean, its rarely crowded, and its CHEAP. $ 6.50 for a student ticket! I think its $ 4 for a matinée. If you are around campus and can find a Saver magazine, there are ALWAYSBOGO coupons in there so for even you non students: 2 tickets for $ 10 ain’t bad. Most movies you can buy the day of but think ahead for specials(particularly the TV showings. I know The Walking Dead sells out like 3 hours in advance). They now have an art gallery as part of the theater which is kinda weird, but in a quirky way, and just gives the Gateway more character. Also they always have great beers at reasonable prices. I’ll be honest, GFC isn’t my first choice to see movies like, most of the time. Paying to park plus dealing with traffic around the Gateway, bleh. HOWEVER. What I really do like about GFC is enough to bump it up to four stars: movie selections and events. You’re far more likely to see independent films, documentaries, or throwback films here than you are in a lot of Columbus theaters, and I really appreciate their dedication to doing more than the minimum«here’s the latest movie and an overpriced popcorn» thing. One caveat: if you go to see something like, oh, say Blazing Saddles, fully expect for people to talk through the entire damned movie even when they’re told not to at the beginning. Seriously, people – this isn’t your living room, I didn’t pay $ 20 to hear you recite dialog!

Gateway FIlm Center is an independent cinema in Columbus. I watched St. Vincent here yesterday and had great time. It’s $ 5 movies on Tuesdays which is a great deal. As much as I like AMC’s leather reclining seats, sometimes I just want to support the smaller businesses. Gateway Film Center is a comfortable and convenient venue to watch a movie. There is parking validation for $ 1 which is nice and there are tons of restaurants and bars around the theater. There is also a restaurant and bar within the theater complex itself and a concession stand that sells beer. Being an independent cinema, they also seem to have various events such as movie screenings combined with beer tastings. This combined with membership perks and pricing makes it an attractive movie venue. They also seem to show indepedent and indie films, which is another plus. I’ll be back.

I have no idea why this place isn’t super crowded all the time. It’s pretty much the best of all worlds when it comes to the movie theater experience: 1. Affordable ticket prices, including student discounts and SBB membership 2. AMAZING diversity of mainstream, indie, and foreign films, as well different series of seasonal films and HORRORMOVIESALLTHETIME. 3. Full bar and restaurant, as well as your basic concession stand 4. $ 1 parking in the garage, or plenty of street parking 5. Comfy seats, fairly clean theaters, and friendly staff 6. Fun events– comedy nights, trivia, beer tastings, Oscar parties Seriously. What more could you want from a theater?

It just doesn’t get any better than this when it comes to Movie Theaters! Do you like mainstream movies, indie flicks, classics, alternative and foreign movies, documentaries, television, film festivals, late night horror screenings, craft beer, beer tastings, exclusive sneak peeks, short films, books adapted to screen, kid friendly events, happy hours, the Oscars, parties, or annual 24 hour marathons of Groundhog Day? No? Why are you looking at reviews of movie theaters? Yes? You can stop looking now! This one is second to none!
