Here is what you need to know about Ethyl & Tank — 1. Happy hour is the reason you should be here. Monday-Friday from 3 – 9PM and Saturday-Sunday 2 – 7. 50% off all drinks and 25% off pitchers and wine. Happy hour until 9PM on Friday? Yes, please. 2. The food was surprisingly good. I had the Columbus Club sandwich with fries. The sandwich was great — turkey, bacon, avocado, LTO, and roasted garlic aioli on toasted wheat bread. The fries were delicious, but I couldn’t finish them because the sandwich was so big. My BF enjoyed his chicken and waffle sandwich. 3. The atmosphere is laid back and casual. We went here on a Friday night, so people were a bit more dressed up for a night out, but I can see myself here for a really casual brunch on the weekend. I’ll definitely be stopping by to check out the brunch menu soon. It is served until 2PM on the weekends.

I did not have a good experience here. The food was really bland and improperly cooked. We came here with a group before a trivia session. I shared the chicken and waffles with my wife. The waffle was clearly made with pancake mix. It had terrible texture that was deflated and became soggy. It was also flavorless. The chicken was mediocre, not crispy at all. The syrup that came with was crappy fake breakfast syrup. We make our own Belgian waffles and I know what a good one is, this was a terrible dish. A friend in our grid got the fish and chips and he didn’t even finish it because the fish was so overdub and dry. It was burned to a crisp on the outside. Would never return and waste my money here again. Nothing at all to recommend about this place.

Love the setup in an abandoned warehouse feel. They have a huge selection of beers on tap including my favorite Steigl Raddler at a price that doesnt break your wallet. TV’s are everywhere so you wont miss any part of the game anywhere in the place. I really liked this place with the exception of lack of AC but being from the south you dont really need it in Columbus anyways. In an area filled with bars on every corner this is one of the best.

Since I wrote my last review I’ve been here maybe 3 times. Each time, was just disappointing. They got rid of half the items that we enjoyed, the food it self had been pretty lackluster, and the service had consistently gotten been bad after our first few visits. My girlfriend had ordered some of their tacos to try and the meat was just super dry. On the menu it said it was one price(don’t remember what) and it was really a dollar more. She normally got one of their sandwiches but we were surprised to see half of that selection was gone. The service had gotten bad. We would wait at least 10 – 15 minutes just for somebody to even greet us at our table and take our orders. We never went when it was super busy so we didn’t understand why the long wait. The only things that stayed consistent here were the drinks. They have a decent selection but in Columbus that’s nothing special with all the great bars in the area.

Yuck. Whether I’ve come during the day for food or at night for drinks, «Ethyl» is gross. Always a poop smell in the air – why?

Their brunch is really good… With their Bloody Mary bar(self serve) makes them unique. Really good breakfast burger, bison burger, chicken, and have had their tacos for dinner which were really good too.

I came on a Thursday at lunch during the semester– it was a ghost town. Which I love. The wait staff was pretty slow, marginally bad. I got the Mexican tater tots(very good!!!), but what really blew this place out of the water and makes me really want to give them 5 stars… THECODTACO!!! Get it! Crispy, flakey, the slaw Isint really spicy, it’s just– the most perfect fish taco. I dream of the cod taco. Now, go forth– and order that cod taco.

Swing and a miss. Walked down here for brunch — it had been recommended, and I’ve had it bookmarked for too long, so it was high time my buddy and I came down to check it out. Bloody Mary? Tasty. Bloody mary bar? Picked clean, no refills on any of the accoutrements.(I so fancy). Service was fast — considering when we walked in, we just sat at the bar, because it wasn’t clear if we were supposed to grab a seat or not. Arcade upstairs? Looked cool — but this was a brunch journey. I got the smothered breakfast burrito. «Careful — the plate’s hot!» HOLYHELL… was it luke warm. Like… not even«the plate was under a heat lamp» but«at one time, the cheese was melted, but by the time I had it, it was room temperature, and lackluster. Chorizo and eggs does not a breakfast burrito make. The corned beef and hash looked delicious, the pancakes looked good — but with a lukewarm burrito(seriously… it was like… we made this an hour ago, and the last guy changed his mind, so here, you eat it) — I don’t know if it’s worth walking down to check out«again» when there are far better options around.

Very simple review. But it should be enough to put you on track. Tacos good. Beer good. Wings bad. No, wait. Wings, very bad. The atmosphere is nice. The bartender is a good guy. Outside area is cool.

Wowser– I loved this place. Disclaimer– I am a lady well into her 30’s and my hubby is knocking of door of 50 and this is certainly a college kid hangout– at least when school is in session. We were ok with that. We went late Sunday morning to try out the build your own Bloody Mary bar. You get a glass with your choice of vodka(plain, pepper, or cilantro infused) and their incredible homemade Bloody Mary mix. Then have a ball adding fixings. They have everything– from picked vegetables to the usual pickles, celery, olives, to hot sauces and spices. Best Bloody Mary I’ve ever had. We also split the breakfast burger and fries which were super tasty. I can’t believe I didn’t take pictures– I was too busy enjoying everything.

I’ve been here a few times to grab dinner prior to something going on across the street at the Wex. I prefer summer break when it’s busy but not crowded and you can grab a seat outside. The food hasn’t been memorable but the service has been good. Turnover is fairly quick even when they are crowded I keep forgetting they have brunch so I’ll want to add this to my brunch list.

To the point: I’m somewhat disappointed with this first visit to E&T. We were the only ladies in the joint around lunch time. Granted, OSU is still on winter break, thus the student foot and car traffic is utterly nonexistent. Explains why we were the only customers eating(two other customers came in not too long before we left). The décor is, I feel, not exactly 100% true to Unilocal’s pics: the photos seem brighter, bubbly, more«alive» than what gave the feel of a bit«has been» today. Again, maybe the student life changes the atmosphere 180 degrees. The food was ok. Nothing to brag home about. I had a Veggie Taco and Pulled Chicken Taco. Too much sour cream. The tortillas weren’t bad. But I don’t have anything to expound on. Had a bite of their Bison Burger, and it was quite dry. Needs more seasoning. Perhaps their breakfast is their ode to fame…

So this place is pretty cool. My friends and I pregamed here before a Crew playoff game and I was pleasantly surprised by the food and beer selection since this really is a campus bar. Also, they had a BOMB happy hour deal on a Sunday(what?!) before the game. I ordered some of their Southwestern tots with chili, cheese, etc and they were delicious. A lot of food for around $ 7 which was awesome. I did find out that the owners of The Crest also own this place so of course I had their hot sauce. Since it was happy hour, I ordered a couple Jameson and Gingers and I believe they were only around $ 3 each! It was like half off everything! Anyway, as far as décor, it’s kind of industrial and they have some cool features like neon signs and an ARCADE upstairs. It’s about as clean as you would expect a campus bar to be. They also have a coffee bar up front which seems interesting. Anyway, I’m not sure I’ll be back any time soon but a solid place and refreshing concept for the campus area.

A fun way to get a cheap café au lait and some hair that bit you on a Sat/Sun and watch a game or two. No need to dress fancy, this campus bar will welcome you as you are, and water and feed you with abandon. The burrito is better than the tacos at the same price, vegetarian or otherwise. The $ 3 mimosas/bloody mary bar is only on non-game OSU days.

I really enjoyed Ethyl & Tank.(I didn’t eat there so can’t attest to the food, though.) The space is really cute, and I was perfectly comfortable(?? it isn’t dirty and doesn’t lack«creature comforts»… I’m. .. I’m not sure what that person was expecting out of a bar but it’s pretty similar to many many other bars I’ve been to on a comfort level). What I loved: – above adequate service. Our bartender was friendly and helpful. the other bartender was a bit weird when he came to collect our bartender’s tips(we wanted to make sure SHE got them), but whatever. The service wasn’t magical enough to gush over but it was good. – The touches of vintage décor/vibe. Not kitschy, just enough to be cool. – Decent beer selection that would really appeal to everyone, whether you drink craft beer or Bud. They also had local spirits from Middle West and Watershed. – It was larger than I expected on the inside! And they have a nice patio for the location. I didn’t give it 5 stars because I didn’t eat so I can’t speak to that whole part of the business and because of the location. I’m not going to hang out at a student bar unless I’m seeing a show around the corner(like last night…), but if this bar were in Franklinton or OTE, I’d go all the time.

I don’t fit Ethyl and Tanks typical demographics but then again Ethyl and Tank isn’t your typical college bar either. It’s really rather nice and it would be an easy fit in the Short North or further up in Clintonville. They’ve got a great happy hour with half price drinks and some decently priced, about average food from their smallish but well rounded menu. It’s more a bar with food as opposed to a restaurant and it’s got an arcade upstairs(wasn’t impressed) and it’s got a great vibe to it. It’s clean, colorful and during the off season, it’s a great place to hang out. They even have a small patio. So long story short, fellow Unilocaler Ryan S. suggested it as a happy hour destination last week so as I’d been there several times before, I quickly said«Sure, sounds good to me». It was a good visit with one of my favorite review writers in Columbus. Everything was great despite a bump in the road regarding my order of Spinach and Artichoke Dip. Our server Allison was very proactive and took care of it quickly and did so in a manner much better than I’d ever expect from a campus area bar. In other words, it was 5 star service. It’s a cool relaxing place to hang out. I recommend it and when you read Ryan’s review you’ll see he recommends it too. I’m a fan and I’m glad to give them 4 Stars. And If You Like… A few other thoughts and suggestions: — Their Happy Hour runs M — F from 3 — 9 and S/S from 2 — 7. Check out their website for the daily details. — Their beer selection is a lot better than you’d expect from an OSU campus area bar. They even had Old Rasputin Imperial Russian Stout! — If you are like me and can’t handle drunken college bros and broettes go during the daytime when OSU is out on a long break. Parking is a hell of a lot easier too.

I came here for lunch with fellow Unilocaler Mike G after our original destination was found closed, shortened summer hours that the app – which will remain nameless – we use to find such info failed us. ;-) I suggested Ethyl & Tank down the block since I have yet to try it. Mike, who had already tried it, said it rated well for him. I agree with his rating. It is in a grey brick building between Pearl Alley and High, a student hub with Short North trappings, yet priced for a students budget. Especially during their long happy hour, 3 – 9 Monday through Friday(2 – 7 on Weekends), where drinks are half-off. We are talking here about crafts, not the nauseating sewer runoff that were student beers when I once haunted that stretch. They have a diverse and rare selections of novel drafts. The interior was so different from other OSU bars, even the newer ones. It is a sharp place with orange/brown chairs and stools, a checkered floor, Earthy green walls, and a line of TVs above the bar. Neon signs cast the place in a club-strobey red. It has three bars, though two were closed on the summer day we visited. There is a second story with a bar and an arcade with some vintage appeal but much lacking in noteworthy nostalgia. The place qualifies as a gastropub. I read awhile back a review questioning its difference from a bar and grill, a question I also had. The difference we discovered is a gastropub has a chef; a pub-grub has a cook. This place has a chef as we found when Mike had a problem and it was fixed perfectly by the awesome staff. Segueing into service, I was impress by the helpful and knowledgeable staff. I bet when school is in, and this place is crowded, that it drops, but when the students are gone, the staff true abilities shine through. The menu is limited and has few choices, which means each dish is specially made. A narrow offering isn’t bad, it focuses attention on the products, rather than the often undisciplined motley patchwork of jack-of-all-trades that many restaurants try to be. I ordered their Cubano Panini, the only panini on menu, a pork/ham concoction with swiss, dill pickles, on Italian bread. It was good, a value for the price, with the dill pickle taste acidifying the front loaded ham. The ham and bread could had been a bit hotter; it was cooked, but the temperature was mellow. The fries were good, but not especially different than other places. All in all, it was an expertly made meal, and for the price, well done. I chased the meal down with Elevator Vic IPA, which was one of the many novel choices on draft. As for its place on the campus scene I think it is an improvement and would had love to have had an upscale but affordable gastropub there in my day.

Not sure how to feel about this place. I think I would have liked it if it was around when I was going to OSU, but in my post-grad life I just see it as dingy and kind of dirty. As a bar it is pretty functional, but the selection is somewhat limited. I once went there on a game day and they told me they were out of champagne to make mimosas! Not okay! I do like that they have a selection of alcoholic coffee drinks, that’s unique, but that’s not my thing personally. As a restaurant, I could see stopping at this place to grab food for a happy hour or something. I do not think it’s sufficient for a full-on dinner or even brunch. I recently saw their CU review for brunch and everything looked awesome so I was excited to try it! Once I actually had my meal though, I was disappointed. My sweet potato hash was mostly zucchini with a few sweet potato cubes thrown in with very little flavor. It was tolerable, but far from the best brunch I’ve ever had. If you’re on campus, stop in for a drink and play a few arcade games, but I wouldn’t recommend actually sitting down for a meal.

I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’m just not a huge fan of chicken and waffles in sandwich form. That, or the two places that I’ve it just haven’t made them taste great together. Unfortunately, the waffles here at Ethyl and Tank fell flat for me, but I actually did like the chicken by itself once I tore it apart. I could barely taste the syrup, since it didn’t seem like there was much, and it was totally soaked into the waffle. I did add some of their hot sauce which made it a bit better. On the other hand, my girlfriend’s Columbus Club was pretty tasty and she really loved it. Both sandwiches come in pretty big portions, and their fries are actually home fries, and they give you a ton of them. They weren’t seasoned all that well, so they just tasted like greased up potatoes to me. Note that if you go for lunch on a Saturday, they are serving the brunch menu, so they don’t have all the sandwiches and paninis they list on the website. I’m not sure if it’s like this everyday, but if you’re looking for some of the entrees and other options, you’ll have to wait until dinner. We sat at the bar, and the bartender was very nice and helpful in picking out options for us, and he made sure we were taken care of whenever we needed anything. The whole space itself is very wide open, and the patio would be great on a nice 70 degree day. I noticed the arcade they have upstairs but didn’t take the time to go check it out. I can see myself stopping in here to try it again, especially on OSU game days, but I would bet by the time football season starts up, this place will be packed on Saturdays.

Food was ok. Place is super Hipster but then again it directly across from OSU. Paninis were hardly grilled & the pulled chicken nachos hardly had any chicken, oh & the use cheese whiz, big no no. Service was as expected, delayed, especially when the staff is the same maturity of the patrons. Good beer selection. Worth a try I guess,
