I was looking at my decades’ collection of t-shirts from wonderful events, and realized that I could wrap myself in good memories without looking like a 1980’s relic. A T-Shirt Quilt! So I mailed a box of my favorite t-shirts to the good people at Deaf Initiatives. They assembled a quilt pattern using the t-shirt graphics, applied a backing to strengthen the t-shirt square, added a grid and border, then handed it off to a quilter who’s machine made wavey quilt stitches over the entire face of it. I got to choose the quilt size, as well as color of grid and backing. It’s now a trophy piece, suitable for a bed or a wall hanging. This is a multiple bonus for anyone. The quilt making provides jobs for the deaf, perpetuates the art of sewing, and returns a beautiful legacy quilt to enjoy every day and to pass on along with the t-shirt stories that it displays.
