What a joke! I gave them one more try but never again. The lobster grilled cheese is now $ 8.99 And is less than a quarter if a inch thick? It used to be $ 6.99 and was nice and thick with chunks of lobster. Not any more. The lobster is the size of grains of rice. About 6 in all. You could get a better Panini at a gas station.

I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that at least they are trying, but it’s just really not that good. Part of the problem is they are sort of isolated on the southeast side of the capitol sorta by themselves, I don’t think business has been as booming as they hoped since opening. The sandwiches and food offerings seem better than they are. The reality is they mostly pre-made with poor ingredients. Prices are not good and you can a better, fresher lunch close by. The other negative is it still sort of operates as a ghetto grocery store which is confusing. They are nice people though and they are trying hard it’s just not a great product. Maybe good enough to stop in every couple of months if you are looking for something different.

Apparently the website is due for an update«next week» according to the person behind the counter, which is why they weren’t able to make an item that was on the menu listed. «Hadn’t made that one for six months» when I asked for the wrap.(nice excuse, but do you really forget how to make something? I still order stuff at Jersey Mikes that was taken off the menu 5 years ago!) When I asked if they had something similiar, he asked what I wanted. Well, the contents of the wrap would be a nice start since they are still right here(beef, cream cheese, tomato, onion, avocado, fresh lime juice, cilantro). Mentioned he was«super busy» a couple of times… must have been call in orders since there was 4 people in the place. Not wanting to continue down the road he started, I opted for an okay pre-made chicken salad on croissant sandwich. At $ 6, it could have used more chicken salad, less croissant. Won’t go back… not even for a slim jim.

I had heard that they have great Veggie and Salmon Burgers so had been wanting to go here for awhile. Outside and location is nice, walking in I was a bit suprised. It’s like a gas station(without the gas) with walk in coolers on the left and straight ahead a guy selling cigs, newspapers and other not really market or deli related items. Also no air conditioning and not the best seating. I got the Veggie Buger after finding out both that and the Salmon come premade from their«supplier» and they didn’t know the brand. Oh well it was $ 5 with coleslaw(that was nasty and I tossed it) but tasted pretty good. They put arugula and roasted corn salsa on it and a tasty aioli which was a very pleasant suprise. I didn’t trust getting premade salmon patties and it was $ 2 more even though the guy working said it was in fact the best thing on the menu. They have a nice selection of housemade condiments, its just a shame that the food, even the buns come«fresh» out the freezer. Also sparkeling water out of the mashine was aa suprise. Not bad, but also not worth going back to.

The tale of Two Stores. One half showcases a nice display of handmade deli and salad offerings, the other could be any in/out mart in the city for those into 22oz canned malt bevs, SlimJims, lotto tix, and chips. Still… I hit it for a work day break now and then, usually to get away with an iced tea.

This is a nice looking market/deli. It’s got pop/beer coolers all along the left wall and the sandwich making area on the right side. The back wall is for selling beer/lottery tickets. The hours are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. I ordered a reuben, which came with a few pickles and a bag of crackers. The problem was that the meat was way too dry. It was precut, and I didn’t see any meat slicers around. I ended up pitching a half a sandwich. At $ 8 for the sandwich, it’s only $ 2 cheaper than Katzingers which is just down the street. And the sandwiches don’t remotely compare. I bumped them up a star because everyone was so nice but great service only goes so far in making up for the food.

Just opening at the beginning of August 2009, C-Town fills a hole of a good deli and quick grab-n-go option on the southeast side of the square. The sandwich menu has a good unique of sandwich choices from all walks. I tried the cubano, and will be back for the lobster grilled cheese(yep, lobster) and to see if the reuben is up to snuff. All made sandwiches come pressed, but they only have two presses so there can be a wait if there is a lunch line. They also offer some cold pre-made sandwich options, and some healthier choices as well. They’re the only people I’ve seen that carry twist(talking rain) water as well, nice and refreshing. After they work out the process kinks, this will be a great place to grab a quick lunch if you’re downtown. They also have a few outdoor tables as well.
