Just had dinner at Xitomate and it was the best! I can’t say enough superlatives. I had Chilapcote(spelled wrong-seafood soup with mussels, shrimp and fish) and my companions had Arraxxx(flank steak and enchiladas) and the other had roasted pork. All three dishes were the best. The pork was super tender, the taste of cilantro came through the dishes perfectly. Loved the chips– thicker than we are used to. We’ve tried many Mexican restaurants and this is one of the best!

Best Mexican Restaurant in the area! Everything fresh, each menu item stands out by itself. Margarita menu is fun and varied. Perfect portions. Great wait staff. If you want bland everything covered in queso go somewhere else. This is a culinary experience.

Perfectly A-OK for Mexican food though I think that they would have preferred more people taking up my table than just me. I knew what I wanted pretty quickly after looking over the menu. My dinner was brought out so quickly so that did not give the waitress an opportunity to bring any chips or salsa. A little disappointing as it really gave off a vibe of they’re being in a rush to turn over the table. I opted not to reward this behavior with a second beer. The chicken burrito was good, well stuffed with pulled chicken and topped with a tasty green chile sauce. The rice was light and fluffy. The small bit of guac on the side was also very good. Still, the vibe just wasn’t there.

A came with a good of friends on a Tuesday night and the décor was nice. The chips were thick and oily, I’ve had better. They were stingy in the salsa and charge extra for refills. The service was slow, but the server was very nice. The margaritas were superb(we got the Diablo and the other spicy one)!!! The guacamole was tasteful. The enchiladas(mushrooms) were average. They had a lot of cheese! They charged extra(.50) for hot peppers, which is ridiculous!

Delicious food and amazing service! First time here and our waitress explained everything to us so we had no questions, drinks were perfect, spicy jalapeño margarita was our favorite. Best food I’ve had in a very long time.

Great food. Great drinks. Awful management. Noticed that my bank statement was wrong so I called the manager to have her reverse the charge and fix it. First, what she said was«I’m not sure of where your ticket is, I’ll have to look for it» Thankfully I had a copy that I texted to her. I finally received a text message that I would get the cash back in the mail with additional coupons. That cash and coupon never arrived. It’s a real shame that my dozens of friends and I who have dined many times over the years will no longer be going back.

This place is def a big MEH. Décor — it is pretty funky, and I really loved the chairs. But it is all over the place. I think they could benefit from having a specific idea for the décor. Service — I would give 4 stars. Our waitress was polite, on time and attentive. Food — As a number of people pointed out this is a Mexican place, so where as the chips and salsa? Speaking of salsa — canned salsa? Really? Since when canned salsa is tooted as authentic Mexican food? And for crying out loud, canned re-fried beans? Peeps, I have been to Mexico several times. I can tell you what you served for beans, sauces and salsa wasn’t authentic Mexican food. Additionally, it was very crappy American version of Mexican food. Eggs and potatoes were surprisingly good Drinks — Mexican Bloody Mary left with a huge hole in my stomach. The bartender dumped hot sauce, put tiny bit tequila in it, and added more black pepper on the top. NASTY! Not likely to go back anytime soon.

Not great. Ate dinner in the bar area last night. Server seemed put out by all requests with annoyed look on her face every time she stopped at the table. Guac was good but chips were not. I ordered the Camarones dish from the specialty section of the menu. So much butter/oil that I couldn’t finish. Not sure what I was eating. Don’t think I will come here again.

I’ve given this hell hole another try and EPICFAIL. I will NEVER come here again. EVER! First, I enter and sit at the bar. No salsa no chips no nothing. I order guacamole. It takes like forever for it to come out. Lady bartender is okay at least she smiles. But the make asshole working with her… don’t need to be in the restaurant biz. ATALL So I order dinner crap comes out with no utensils. Told the food runner that but of course he just ignores it. Have to flag down the manager to get utensils. Then the asshole bartender brings it who’s been giving shabby service all night. They spend all their time grinning in their regulars’ faces so they pay non reg no mind. Then when I’m done with my dinner I ask for a to go box. I ask the asshole if he has anything to hold the tacos together in the box because duh putting tacos in a to go box umm their gonna be all over the place when I open the box. This asshole looks at me like I don’t give a duck and says no. Then to top it off I threw the card on the counter and the bitch ass threw it back after running it. You can be rest assured as long as I’m black I will NEVER come to this sorry ass establishment again. And anyone I know who even mumbles that they are trying this shit hole I will definitely share this experience with them.

Weird service, bar stopped serving drinks to tables 40min before closing. Way better options out there! Disappointed.

The guacamole is always delicious and the sangria is yummy. Everything I’ve eaten from there has been decent, maybe not always the same level but is usually made well. I also enjoy the Bloody Marys. However, the mimosas aren’t really mimosas. They put vodka in them, which throws off the flavor. The service, depending on which server you get, can frankly be crap. I’ve never had a mean or rude server, just painfully slow. However, I’ll still go there for the bottomless brunch drinks and guac, provided I’m not in a hurry.

I have one he got tell you about this place, try the Chesapeake guacamole because it is delicious!!! They make the guacamole at the table and there are large chunks of crab in it… yum! Not a huge review because it has ever been busy when I’ve gone.

My friend has always suggested this place but I always tried to steer away since the ratings on Unilocal were pretty low. Decided to try the place anyway and we came here for brunch. The bottomless mimosas and Bloody Mary’s caught our attention. They serve chips and salsa as a gratis. As a comparison I go to on the border all the time and prefer their chips. We both got the bottomless drinks and they don’t skimp on the alcohol. I had the mimosa and they use vodka and wine instead of champagne. Personally I like the carbonation excitement in my mouth when I drink a mimosa as oppose to a flat mixture of oj and vodka. We ordered the xitomate French toast, frutas frescas salsa de mango crepes, and the burrito con churizo. I had the French toast and while the presentation was nice the taste fell flat and bland and the texture wasn’t fluffy and moist but soggy. The crepes came with watermelon and strawberries. Liked the bite of burrito that I had. 3 stars because it’s not really bad or really good but just average. I mainly had sweet dishes which I don’t recommend and drinks so maybe if I had savory it might be a different review.

Their guac is ahhhhmazing! Im getting hungry just thinking about it. Also margaritas are nice and strong — just how I like it. My only complaint is that they don’t have better happy hour specials! The waitress we had wasn’t too strong on english which is completely fine, but it made things a little difficult when trying to place our orders. Just come prepared and dont get impatient. Other than that we had a great experience with great food and drinks!

I’ll start off by stating that the food was good, but the service was just okay. Reason being, when I asked about the happy hour specials, our waitress told us there was $ 5 margaritas and $ 5 sangria’s, ok fine. But, she kept the info about the $ 15 margarita pitcher you can get bc that was a Thursday special. Are you kidding me? When I ask about happy hour specials and its thurs, why wouldn’t she just tell me. If you’re a good server, you should., just the opinion of all patrons in guessing. Also, she would never be around when we were looking for her. That’s the main reason why I didn’t give the restaurant 4 stars. Let’s get back to the food though., it was very good. I got the Dos XX beef brisket it was delish. I heard a friend who got the pork and they also said that was good. We all enjoyed our meals. We even enjoyed dessert — we ordered the tres leches and that was very good. It’s very good food but the wait staff was lacking on the customer service.

You ever had that perfect picnic planned and then it rained on you deflating any possibility of you enjoying yourself? That was my experience at Xitomante. Overall I will say that this place was bookmarked on Unilocal for me but after this experience it was a one stop and permanent drop. I went there on a Friday night and surprised it was not crowded. Upon entering I have to say I agree with some other reviewers that when I was brought to my table the hostess was not very motivated or enthusiastic about seating me. So begins the killjoy of the night. Once I was seated it was about ten minutes before our waitress came over to introduce herself. For the sake of the conversation I will just use the first letter in her name and call her E. I ordered a drink and the filete res mole chatino and I will say it was good despite it taking an additional 25 minutes for the food to come out. The sauce on the burrito was a nice compliment and the cilantro rice was flavorful. Still after waiting over half an hour from seating to getting the meal was excessive. Here is why I say this place is a one and done for me. While waiting a waitress looked at me and had the look of «this guys has been waiting», as she slowed at my table but did not stop before E arrived. When E arrived I asked her if they offered a military discount and she told m that«she could get me a discount as they had a few». After placing my order to E and the continued waiting another waitress stopped by and asked if someone was helping us. I said yes but that just made me think that customers waiting for sometime was common. When the bill came I mentioned there was no discount on the tab and E said she would talk to her manager. What is there to talk about you said you could get me a discount when I first asked before ordering food. She came back and said her manager could not give us a discount. The comment from her is what really got to me when she said, «There are other businesses that don’t give discounts.» Was this suppose to make me feel better for your mistake and that you shot from the hip not knowing about policies at your place of employment after you made a verbal promise to a customer. I am not at other business or concerned about their discount policy when I am here at Xitomante where I was told I could get a discount. This is horrible training and poor customer service to go back on your word. For this reason I cannot see myself going back to this establishment. True other businesses do not offer discounts but at least they know the policies and are not giving you lip service.

Located near Victoria Gastropub, Xitomate is an establishment offering indoor and outdoor seating. I was excited to dine here but upon arrival, there was an employee that let her disdain be known and it kinda killed the vibe. Seated quickly and allowed to sit there for over 10 minutes before a server came over I began to contemplate if this was a good choice. I opted for the Mi Amor margarita and my dining companion ordered a drink as well and they ended up getting switched up when delivered to the table. Both were just okay and I stuck with water afterwards. For my dinner choice I opted for the Pollo y Camaron A la Crema. Translated its shrimp and chicken in a creamy white sauce. What put the wrinkle over my nose is that my food came out warm… not hot. If I wait 25 minutes for a dish, I fully expect to see the steam swirling when it’s placed on the table… not the case here. Way too much crema sauce on this dish. The portion was average and the ratio of chicken to shrimp was decent. The side of cilantro rice was good but lacked the zing of lime that I’m used to. There were slices of avacado on the side that paired well with the dish. Our server Emily seemed a bit unsure on a few things. I’m not sure how long she’s been there but I’d rather you verify the information you are providing instead of coming back telling me that someone else said that you can’t do xyz… blah blah blah. Nice décor, plenty of seating and plenty of parking for patrons. Not a terrible experience here but I have decided to place them on my one and done list. Note to the employees there, it gives me the freak out when you just stand there and stare at me as I eat my food. The level of weird increases when its two or more of you standing in one spot staring. Not cool.

Margaritas! They are all so good and comes in such adorable colors. I got the Lola, which had cilantro in it! It was sweet and loved that hint of cilantro with the salted rim. They had amazing tacos. I got the pork tacos and my sister got the fish tacos, so we switched off. The pork tacos were really flavorful and juicy. You got a strong cinnamon flavor from the pork that balanced well with the chunks of mango. The fish tacos were delicious too. The fillet was huge for each taco. You get three tacos, a side of beans, and rice. Huge portions. We went here for a late birthday and got a complimentary tres de leche cake. I am a big fan of caramel, so of course I fell in live with their cake. It was most and perfectly sweet. The reason for the three stars is because our waiter was slightly creepy. All of us felt super uncomfortable with what he said and he kept offering us free things and saying«it was on him… and he said oh not really on me.» It was way too much. Super creepy… But great food and drinks!

I have been here quite a few times. This time, however, I was particularly more fond of it than I have been from previous visits. I believe it was mostly due to what I ordered. Thus, I suggest you order the following… 1.) mi amore margarita– omg it’s so delicious. The flavor of salt and pomegranate are bold. Then subtle hints of cilantro hit your taste buds. 2.) coconut margarita– the fresh flavor from the coconut and the strong hit of tequila are such a good mix. The salt from the rim and pinches of salt in the physical drink, takes the margarita over the edge. 3.) the pork and or fish tacos– Both are so flavorful. The pork tacos have a very subtle nutmeg and cinnamon back tone. The fish tacos are a bit salted which is why these fish tacos come with two corn tortillas versus just one like the pork tacos. The fish tacos have a more fresh and herbal note than the pork tacos. 4.) tres leche– I love tres leche in general! However, if you are sensitive to mushy desserts I would advise you from ordering this dessert. I know many people who do in fact love the flavor of tres leche but cannot stand the mushy element of the cake. It’s a great place to eat in the Columbia, MD area.

To the guys in the kitchen: ditch this joint and git your own food truck! Your food deserves more than this restaurant. We live nearby and really wanted to like this place but I should’ve checked reviews and saved my money – because of a lot of it went out, but not a lot of food went in. Coming from a petite girl who usually can’t get through a whole meal – that’s saying something. There were several things that made this meal a total fail that I need to enumerate them so I can stop being grumpy about the meal now digesting slowly in my stomach and giving me gas. 1. Awkward Seating Situation(ASS): We came in the entrance near the bar and stood there. No one greeted us or came over. Apparently, the hostess stand was in the middle of the restaurant near another entrance. Why she couldn’t just walk over was a mystery. We saw several people endure the same confusion while bartenders(who were RIGHTTHERE), servers, hostesses, were just chatting with each other and seemingly doing all they can to NOT pay attention. 2. Lacksidaisical Service: I’m not one to complain about service usually unless it was noticeably bad. There were about 6 – 7 restaurant personnel in our HALF of the restaurant, the place wasn’t full, and somehow no one came to serve us until 10 min later. They didn’t even give us the chips & salsa until the 2nd or 3rd visit to our table. We noticed, after ordering, that it was restaurant week but the guy didn’t even tell us about that and when asked, he said«well it was in the menu». NO, it was not in the menus, we checked the whole thing and it was NOT there! 3. Scanty Salsa: The salsa was a tiny, take-away size sample cup. Look at the pictures, it’s a joke. That’s enough salsa for approximately…3 chips. Apparently the first round is complimentary, and each additional round is $ 2. Btw, some of the chips were«chewy». I don’t even want to imagine the possibilities as to why. 4. Deceptive Guacamole: The $ 8.50 guacamole was the major disappointment of the night. I had put it on my tab to treat my 2 friends, and the fancy, stone bowl was unbelievably SHALLOW. We all uttered in unison, «That’s IT?!!» I was embarrassed for ordering that. I thought there must’ve been a mistake, maybe it was bottomless, but no, that was not the case. I would have to pay $ 8.50 again for a refill. OMG, I just paid $ 8.50 for each of us to have like one tablespoon of guacamole. It was enough to have indigestion through the rest of the meal. 5. Cheese and Chili Sauce Charge: They messed up my friend’s fajita order, and charged her $ 2 for CHEESE. Who does that?! I mean they called it «Chihuahua cheese» on the bill… was that supposed to bring a smile to our faces, «Omg how cute… chihuahua. awww»? She also asked for more chili sauce during the meal(served again in a tiny sample sized cup) and had to CHECK if it’d be an extra charge and yes, you guessed right, there was. 6. Ridiculous Rice: I’ve lived in Cali near the border and eaten plenty of mexican. I’ve never had the experience of having cubed carrot, pea, and corn mix(available in any supermarket frozen section) in my mexican rice. For a place this expensive, I was surprised. This review is getting long, but you get my point. Just do yourself a favor and stick with Chipotle and Baja Fresh. Baja Fresh has an endless salsa bar where you can get tons of salsa and sauce in the same sized sample cups. FREE. Sure, the menu choices are pretty unique here but I feel sorry for the talented cooks stuck behind the kitchen of this mediocre restaurant. Seriously dudes, break free and do your own thing. Watch«Chef» and be inspired.
