It is rare that I would rate any restaurant five stars. The experience was rewarding to compliment our 40th anniversary. Every course of the meal was done with flair. Thanks Wine Cellar & Bistro we will return.

Innovative menu with a nice wine selection. We took my mother-in-law to dinner here – our first time. She had the scallops and raved about them. We tried the potato cakes for a starter and they were very good. I had the spaghetti made from spaghetti squash, not pasta. It was good, but not great. The favor was a bit bland and the serving was very small. My husband tried the ravioli and said it was good. The only major complaint that I had was the wine selection by the glass was very limited. Only two choices on a red and neither were a cabernet or a full bodied red. Overall a nice evening. I would go back and try something different than the squash dish.

Great wine and cheese plate, but don’t order the Rainbow Trout, more fish skin and sweet potatoes than FISH!

I’m visiting from Chicago and have eaten at The Wine Cellar several times before. Tonight I went there early around 6pm. There were only a few people dining. The hostess said the rest of the dining room was booked in «about a half hour to an hour»,(Not very specific) and that my brother and I could sit in the bar side. However, the piano playing was loud and we politely opted to leave. As I walked toward the door, I busted the hostess giving us looks and laughing to another employee about us. Thankfully, Sycamore was more accommodating and we had an awesome meal!

My wife and I had a reservation for 7:00 but arrived early and were seated right away. There was live jazz music in the bar within earshot and really set the tone for the evening. It wasn’t busy for a Saturday night but this was ok by me. We started with the pork belly appetizer paired with apple and fennel slaw. The Chef is known for interesting pairing and this one was fantastic. My wife had the warm romaine salad and I had the cream of mushroom soup made with locally harvested mushrooms. Both were delicious! My wife ordered the duck and I had the scallops. Both dishes were cooked to perfection served with a Swiss chard/kale mixture and wild rice. I really like sauce in a dish and both dishes had sauce. I really liked the sauce with the scallops but wasn’t crazy about the one with the duck. We finished off with the vanilla ice cream topped with honey and poached apples. We both had wine that was on special but if you are a wine enthusiast this is a place you will want to visit. All in all, this was one of best meal experiences I’ve had but the price point was a little high for my budget to eat there with any frequency. One appetizer, a soup, a salad, two entrees, shared dessert, and 4 drinks = $ 165 including tip.

I never thought I would get perfectly fresh oysters in central Missouri, but Thursdays with raw oysters blew me away. I tried a grilled one for good measure and it was delicious also. The selection for wines by the glass is respectable with good variety and the perfect price range. They even have a Wine Spectator certificate for 2014. The staff is always accommodating and takes the time to teach about varietals or regions that you might not know. The recommendations for pairing are spot on. My scallops were just barely overcooked, but the goat cheese salad and the burger have always been excellent. The sauces are impressive. With great wine, lovely, local food, and fantastic live music, this is a lovely find in Columbia.

Tried this restaurant based on the Unilocal reviews, all I can say is Wow! I loved it. Great wine selection and relatively low mark up means great value. Food was fantastic, local produce and great imagination make for an innovative menu. There were three of us and we tried several different things, all were fantastic. The restaurant is small and out of the way and has very little signage so you have to look for it. Worth the trip.

Still love it. I need to go back to Trey again, but this may be my favorite place in CoMo. Also enjoyed seeing their home garden(that they use to supply the restaurant) on the Slow Food Katy Trail farm tour last summer; seems like CCUA has been instrumental in getting them going with that. Most recently I got: — chestnut soup: loved this. I don’t like the texture of roasted chestnuts, but that’s not an issue with soup, and there were definitely other flavors in there, and flavorful(smoky) pieces of shrimp that went well with it. — goat cheese truffles: I can’t resist. Four little fried goat cheese«truffles,» honey, figs, onion confit, balsamic… so many flavors that go so well together. Last time my colleague remarked on the beautiful presentation, too, which I guess I miss b/c I just want to eat them… — smoked trout salad: solid, if not remarkable. — mystery dessert: I should’ve asked what this was… I didn’t really feel like the chocolate torte(which is amazing – have had it before), but ordered it, and somehow got something more like what I wanted – had some graham crust and almond brittle on top and cheesecake consistency but wasn’t cheesecake(I’ve had the locavore cheesecake before, too), and some fruit sauce – anyway, it was great and exactly what I felt like. I don’t know anything about wine, but the bottle my colleague ordered 2 times ago was really good… the one we had last time was good but not amazing.

I stumbled into this place and loved EVERYTHING! I may have had the best piece of beef I’ve ever had in my life. And the cocktails I ordered were off the charts. The service – second to none. You idiot! Make a reservation right now!

Just has lunch at The Wine Cellar. Great food at great price. We started with the crab crepes and a glass of sparkling wine(sparkling wine my choice, crepes my husbands). We each liked our pen choice. The vichyssoise was really good. I had the scallop salad, two large scallops, nice mixture of greens, chopped almonds, avacados, some kind of chili dressing, really really good. Jim had the duo of lamb which he raved about. He had a glass of zin, I had Sauvignon blanc good stuff. For dessert we had a chocolate fondue with fruit. Perfect. Loved the whole experience !!

My favorite place in Columbia to dine. The atmosphere is quiet and romantic. The small number of tables keeps the whole place very intimate and inviting. They have a great wine list and a seasonal menu that never disappoints. The staff is knowledgable and attentive. My only critique– get a few more Italian reds. When they have it my favorite dishes are: mushrooms three ways, fried goat cheese, beef stroganoff, oysters baked to Chef’s perfection(usually Thursdays). The desserts are always fantastic. But I usually order whatever is on seasonal special and it’s always fantastic. Local ingredients, great wine list for Columbia, good service, fantastic food. Check it out!

We went to the Wine Cellar over the weekend to celebrate my wife’s birthday. It’s a cute little restaurant, and appeared to have a small bar area(I didn’t look too closely). The waiter was pleasant and attentive without being intrusive. We started out with the crab appetizer, which I thought was bland but which my wife enjoyed. For the main fare, my wife ordered the ravioli, which she felt was a little bland. I had the lamb muffuletta from the«small plate» menu. It was OK, nothing special. Dessert(cheesecake) was great. Alcohol selection was very good, and prices were reasonable. Overall: food is OK but not great. We may have made a couple of unlucky selections. We won’t be back: the restaurant is just too expensive, and the quality of the food isn’t justified by the price.

We ate here tonight after my sister’s graduation, and out of the eight people in our party, the majority had a good experience. First off, our server was really sweet and was quite knowledgable about the food and wine. However, the service itself was hit and miss. We had some empty water glasses for a while. But on the other hand, when we had an issue with one of our cocktails, she gladly removed it from our bill. As for the food, it was mostly good. My husband and I split the Shiitake Mushrooms 3 Ways, which was a custard, a pâté and a ceviche. They were so different but went together perfectly. The pâté was extremely savory with garlic and onion, and the custard and ceviche actually worked best when it was eaten together. I ordered a couple of small plates for my meal — the beef tips in a sherry cream and the coconut curry scallops. Beef tips were great. The sauce was really great. Exactly what you’d want in a cream sauce. The scallops were cooked perfectly, but the sauce was overpowering. If you are on the fence about curry, I don’t know if this would be the dish for you. My husband had the duck, and he loved it. Would have loved to try their dessert menu, but we brought in our own graduation cake. Maybe next time, since I’m sure we’ll be back.

Visited during our weekly«date night». As a couple, spending more than $ 100 on dinner, I have much different expectations of service than we were given. The food was unusual but not all that tasty. Considering the prices, I was expecting something really, really good, but it was just OK. The wine selection is excellent and the waiter reluctantly helped us select a really good one, after we found that our first selection of wine was on the menu, but not available. There were five occupied tables for most of our 2-hour dinner, with two wait-staff. Considering the fairly slow night, our waiter was amazingly inattentive. He would leave to get something(e.g. dessert menu, bread and butter, wine list) and be gone an amazingly long time. He dumped our food on the table and disappeared … etc. We sat at our table for at least 15 minutes with nothing but water when we first got there.
