The salon is clean but I had a problem with their retail side. I had a cut and color with Justin, which was good and I will probably return so he can keep working on getting my color the correct shade. Next, I tried out their Aveda shampoo and conditioner products, which were on 20% off sale. After the discount, I paid $ 40 plus tax for the two. However, since the product didn’t work for me, I decided to return the pair. The Strand told me they do not do returns, only exchanges or credit for future product purchases. I am very surprised and disappointed that I will have to now use the ‘credit’ to purchase more products.

The place was very nice, and so was everyone that I talked to that worked there. I was a little disappointed with my hair color. I showed a picture of what I wanted and explained what I wanted in depth. My hair is brown and I wanted full head highlights to look blonde, but a natural blonde. The lighting in there made it look a lot lighter until I got into my car… In actual lighting it is still very dark. I wanted to look blonde, rather than having light brown hair. I paid over a hundred dollars for basically nothing because my hair looks almost the same. :/The stylist was really nice, I just wish she had paid more attention to the photo I showed her. The cut was exactly what I asked for.

This place can be pricey but it’s worth it. Alway relaxing and leave happy. They sell Adeda products which are my absolute favorite. Pam is my stylist and she’s always friendly and works with me to help me look my best. If your not happy with your cut/color/style for any reason just say so and they will fix it.

The only good thing I can say about this place is that they’re cheap. The girl at the front desk was definitely not concerned about customer service. She looked bored and was very rude. I’m new to the area and was recommended by a friend who lived here years ago, and clearly they had a different stylist. My stylist not only didn’t listen to what I asked her to do(I only needed a trim-it wasn’t complicated-and my hair was totally uneven.) she didn’t even bother to try and make conversation with me. When I tried to be friendly and started talking about how I’m new to town and my girlfriend and I live nearby, she rudely shut down the conversation and raised her eyebrows at me when I said«girlfriend.» So not only was it clear she wasn’t gay friendly, she wasn’t even a good stylist. I immediately called The Marc downtown and went and had my hair fixed right up. They were able to get me in the same day, and were unbelievably friendly and accommodating!!!

I was on the hunt for a salon and stylist when I moved back to Columbia for a few years. After trying two other salons and three other stylists, I found Shannon at The Strand. My hunt was finally over. I am blonde and have always preferred dimensional highlights. She is the first of the four stylists to get my highlights right. She uses a lot of foils so that the highlights are well blended and dimensional instead of using just a few foils for a chunkier look. And, she gets my blonde right instead of it being too yellow. Not only do I love her highlights, but I also love her cuts. When I first went to her, I didn’t love my cut at all and she knew right away how to fix it. From the time I sat down in the chair I knew she understood what I was wanting, and she delivered. I also liked that she was willing to give me her opinion and her suggestions, instead of looking to me for every decision. I ultimately make the decisions, but I really appreciate her expertise and opinions. If you’re blonde(or not blonde) and looking for dimensional highlights, give Shannon a shot.

I have very curly hair and have had a lot of trouble finding a stylist who really gets the challenge of cutting and styling curly hair. Pam at The Strand is the best stylist in Columbia for people with curly hair, for sure! She made me feel comfortable about going from long hair to a very short style I wanted and completed the cut and style in 30 minutes!!! I am usually in the stylist’s chair for at least an hour. She was very personable, thorough, and professional throughout the cut. I am so glad I found this stylist here and will keep going back as long as I live in Columbia. Great experience and a great cut!

I went here for a spa pedicure, which was supposed to be 75 minutes and include a bit more than just a regular pedicure(I assumed). Anyway, my experience only lasted around 50 minutes and everything was very quick(including the foot massage and exfoliation). The lady who did it was nice enough, but I felt like for it being a «spa pedicure» it should have been a bit longer and should have provided me with a calming experience instead of a rushed one. Also, the massage chair I sat in didn’t even work! The buttons on the remote that controlled the massage part was broken, so all I could do was turn the chair on and pretend I was getting a massage… Overall, it wasn’t a horrible experience, but I would expect better for the price. Next time I am in the market for a pedicure I will definitely have to try somewhere else.

I have always been extremely picky about how my hair is cut. I have long hair so it’s always been hard to find a stylist who understands how to keep the length, but also make your hair look healthy. I’m so happy I tried The Strand on a whim and found Keely. I’ve gone to her twice now and she always does an amazing job with my long hair. She also cuts layers better than anyone I have ever gone to, so much so that I still go back to her even though I’ve moved out of Columbia. She’s quick and I love that she’s at an Aveda salon because those products are amazing. And her blow-outs are incredible! I highly recommend you make an appointment with her if you’re looking for a new stylist.

Moved to Columbia in August and couldn’t find a hair salon right for me until I came to The Strand. I came in knowing what I wanted done and even brought in pictures and Jessi did a great job with the type of ombré I wanted. It didn’t take nearly as long as all my other ombré’s had and the price is not bad, plus they use Aveda products, which I love! I have definitely found my salon in Columbia.

I have gotten pedicures at several places in Columbia and The Strand is by far the best. I leave feeling like I have new feet! also get haircuts here by Allison and she is great. In general, a pleasant place to go, free coffee and tea, nice people, good products.

I purchased one of the spa services at The Strand via Groupon without doing any research. I was slightly worried it was going to be some old salon, and I was surprised when it turned out to be more upscale. The clientele seemed to me to be upper middle class and most appeared to be regulars. The stylists greeted everyone by name and seemed to actually KNOW their customers. The place was pretty busy, and customers arrived every 10 minutes or so. I didn’t get a hair cut/style, but a wax instead. Yuliya did it, and she was very knowledgeable and kept up the small talk to make it less awkward. Overall, there was better customer service/treatment here than I’ve had at some fancy places in Houston. I definitely plan on going back– maybe for a hair cut next time.

After two bad haircuts in COMO, I finally found my hair salon which is more difficult than choosing a doctor. I love my new stylist team. There are three stylists I trust with my hair. I have short, fine hair and they aren’t afraid to use the thinning shears to help give me volume. They do book up so you have to plan ahead and book your appt early. The front desk receptionist could be a bit friendlier. She’s not very good at muti-tasking and the phone rings lften. Have not yet tried the spa services but the spa area look very nice. For Columbia this is a pricier salon but compared to other markets I think this is a bargain for the quality of service.
