Subs were really good but ridiculously overpriced. $ 10.30 to be exact for a «full turkey sandwich» the lady who took my order looked extremely stoned so if you’re into overpriced hippie sub sandwiches, then yes it’s awesome.

Just stood there for five minutes while all the employees were in the back talking and doing nothing. No one helped me so I left. Sweet service.

Perfect bread, perfect ingredients, perfect toasting… can I use perfect again? A CoMo institution and I never miss it when I’m in town. My pick is the Italian on white add mushrooms. Homemade spicy sausage makes this sooooo tasty!!! They also deliver… BONUS!!!

Not my favorite Sub Shop location in town, But let’s get down to the food. I absolutely love Sub Shop’s subs. Sub shop has great ingredients, HUGE subs, and deliciously fresh bread(really, it’s good.) I had the Italian sub which has italian sausage, pepperoni, green peppers, onions, mozzarella, and pizza sauce! Absolutely delicious. If I was rating Sub Shop on the food alone, I would be assigning 5 stars. However, my problem with this location is that it is smaller, dingier, and slower than other locations I have been to in town(The Sub Shop on Stadium Blvd. Over by the mall is my favorite). So, for me, this is a Sub Shop I like to pick up food from, but I’ve never chosen to eat in the store. Call ahead, save yourself some time.

This place is a joke and absolutely filthy if you look back in the kitchen you can see the trash an visible dirt everywhere on the floor from years of not cleaning the floors, There is even a dirt trail you stand in as you make your way to the unwiped counter next to the syrup laden soda machine that you DON’T GETFREEREFILLS from(what is this 1992). Subshop is a prime example of what happens to a business when they try to live off their name for too long. A $ 11 Bologna sandwich might have been a delicacy in the 70’s, but today that’s nothing more that a version of pink slime that no one wants to eat. Locals all order the veggie because that is the only sandwich worth a damn here although it has so much cheese and mayo on it you get more of a mayo bubble gum consistency when you chew it. If you are lucky enough for them to actually get your order right you will still leave the place knowing that across the street you could have got a steak sandwich from Murry’ s for $ 3 less, or 2 pizzas at domino’s. The only saving grace of this location is the art on the walls. Don’t expect to use the restroom here though they will less than politely tell you to go across the street to the gas station.

Many other reviews confirm this, Sub Shop is the bomb! Forget Subway and Quizno’s can take a seat. I’ve eaten there a few times and every time the food was awesome! Maybe I didn’t have the surreal, erotic experience that Archana did, but I definitely would go back. Hell, I think I’ll even go there today! Oh, and Panera? If these guys were open just a wee-bit earlier, you too would have a run for your money.

Sub Shop has three locations in Columbia. The subs are superb. My favorite is the Hoagie. The atmosphere is well… laid back, man! The prices are a little high($ 10 for a foot long sub) but worth it for the quality. I also like to support local businesses. Sub Shop has been a fixture in Columbia for nigh on to 40 years for a reason. Check it out and see why!

Had the veg sandwich. It was good but not mind blowing. There was a ton of cheese, too much mayo, and not much flavor. Maybe would have been better with salt pepper and oregano. The bread tasted really fresh so that was a plus.

INSHORT: I don’t get the hype, but then, I don’t live in Columbia. I didn’t think it was worth the drive. The vegetarian sub was good, but not spectacular. THEFULLSTORY: When travelling through college towns like Columbia, I like to try to head off the beaten path of the Interstate exists and try the local favorites. I read several reviews about Sub Shop on Unilocal and thought it sounded like a worthy place to try. Somehow, I missed the fact that there was a location right by the mall, and we wound up driving to the location down near campus. It’s too bad, because the location by the mall looks a little bit nicer and might have earned an extra star from me. Our trip wasn’t worth the effort. The restaurant is in a strip mall and it has very limited seating, all of which is wobbly. There was no high chair for our toddler, nor were there any bathrooms. The place was filthy. The guy waiting on us was hung over and seemed like a football player who’d taken one too many blows to the head. He couldn’t get our(fairly simple) order straight and I had to keep going back up to the counter to ask for things he’d left out. «Ah, but the food…» you might be saying. After all, Sub Shop’s claim to fame(aside from being the setting of a film at some point in its history) is its vegetarian sub, which signs in the restaurant proclaim has been voted the best sandwich by the locals. It was just OK in my book — a mess of uncooked sliced veggies held together with a blend of cheeses, toasted onto the bun. The mushrooms(which are really the ingredient with the most play in terms of flavor) didn’t taste like much, and the green peppers and the onions had a strong impact on the overall taste. The bread, while good, was certainly nothing I’d rave about. My daughter liked her grilled cheese, but she’s a fan of just about anything with bread and cheese as a primary ingredient. My wife is pregnant and her taste buds are a little off, so she opted for a salad which she said was«just OK.» Sub Shop also carries a local brand of chips from Fulton, MO. Those were interesting, at least. They don’t have many choices for beverages, nor do they have any sort of self-service beverage dispenser. We were there on a Sunday morning around 11AM, so I didn’t see anyone consuming alcohol, but according to their menu, they do offer beer delivery with their sub delivery service! College towns often have great local restaurants that are a real fixture of the community. Sub Shop seems like one of those places that used to be really good and now is in need of a remodel and some new options. I’m guessing the locals use them primarily for take-out and delivery. But travelers, beware — you probably will be as underwhelmed as I was.

The veggie sandwich is mind blowing! I day dream and drool thinking of this sandwich! The best I have had, and I am a non vegetarian. Seriously its a mind f**k! One bite, and am seriously ecstatic. I always take out, so I can make the mmmm noises with my eyes closed for every bite, so other people dont feel uncomfortable. I haven’t tried anything else here, because I cant bring myself not to order the veggie. Try it, it will change your life for ever. I kid not. Oh and the bread… the toasty warm soft bread with the crispy chewy edge with sesame on top. mind f**k, I tell you.

A Columbia tradition for over 30 years. The meatball is the best meatball sub I have found anywhere, yet. I travel a lot and have tried meatball subs all over the country and have yet to find one that is better. I am not a veggie person, but the veggie sub is considered really good. Order a whole sandwhich and save half for the next day.
