Really bad. I’ve been to Germany over 15 times. I cook authentic German in my home. This food was pretty awful. The saurkra7t had a real weird taste. The food was just foul tasting and nothing great. We are always looking for giod German and just cant find it.

We actually went to this restaurant by mistake but were very pleasantly surprised and glad we did! The beer cheese soup was delicious and the pretzel with salami was my husband’s favorite. We also ordered the brats and sausage platter which we loved. Next time I will try the schnitzel burger — I heard it’s great. Best of all, they had all our favorite German beers on tap. I will agree that the wait staff needs to be better trained(she forgot to give us silverware and napkins several times) and the wait staff also needs to stay by the tables. Every time we needed our waitress was nowhere to be found! For how empty the restaurant was I have no idea where she kept disappearing to. It was also a bit dusty on the backs of the booths so I hope they will take care of that. The cook came out to introduce himself and thank us for coming. That makes the whole experience worth it to us. Great food and great beer and we’ll definitely be going again.

INCREDIBLEFOODANDSERVICE I was leading a group hike in Delaware Water Gap up Mt Tammany(all 1,526′ feet vertical of it). This place is about 11 minutes away from the Dunnfield Creek Parking lot — it is an exit or two EAST of the PA/NJ Border off I-80. It has a private parking lot that is in front of restaurant and is wider by a bit. The outdoor bierbarten is to the left of the indoor facility. When 15 of us arrived for lunch we were seated right away(hint: we called ahead). There was only one or two other tables occupied and from the looks the customers there looked like they enjoyed eating. First we were greeted by the waitress, and she forgot a few items such as the ala carte menu(she only gave us the buffet menu that sets you back over $ 21(? don’t remember exactly) per person. We are not hogs nor heffers so I had to chase her down for the real deal. A tall bearded owner, manager, chef, and bottle washer(well maybe not) came out to take our orders with waitress standing by for some reason. Note they will try to upsell you on everything and encourage ordering starters and appetizers. It was a bit over the top but in a respectful manner. The food was incredibly outstanding! Not sure if it was because we were starving but we did learn the chef used to work at Le Cirque in NYC. Ah hah! Now we’re talking. The beer from comments from those who were drinking complimented the beer($ 4 per mug). No they don’t serve beer in steins! The waitress was attentive although there were times we wondered if she had gone fishing somewhere and had to send a search party out to find her — fortunately we had headlamps in case it took longer than expected to located the fräulein. They were kind enough to provide us separate checks. I don’t think it would have happened if the place was busy. We did not have dinner there although I did call night before to verify their lunch hours. At first no one answered and I didn’t leave message I just called next restaurant on my list(Salt Gastropub). Surprisingly I received a call back from a female at Jagerstein who asked if I called. She immediately turned me off with her tone of voice and manner of fielding call so I had plans to go to the backup I had on the list. The day of we called the backup and found it didn’t open until one hour later than Jagerstein so we gave them a shot and hoped the gal who I spoke to the night before wasn’t going to be serving us. and miracles happen! Thank the karma gods. no sign of her :) We were very pleased we got detoured there instead of heading to our backup purely by consequences. Everything was great. If you go during warm weather, you could probably sit on the patio outdoors. They also have specials, one we saw on a banner outside but not on menu or special addendum so you better remember what it was and the price if you are interested in ordering it(this one was a Jumbo Hot Dog, Beer, Salad for dirt cheap(I forgot price, maybe $ 5.99?). If you are looking for lunch and you’re in the area you can’t go wrong here. They have real home made Bavarian fare and German draft beers. There were only two items that were so so — one was potato crochets. I had the snitzel burger. outstanding! Another had Liverwurst — he was impressed, and another had chicken snitzel — raved about it. They also have spatzel which I was told it was different than at other Bavarian restaurants(in a good way). Bön Appetite! Visited late October 2015.

I must say that we have been here several times. The first time about a year it was great. The atmosphere was pleasant, German music was playing. Warm fire place owners were friendly. Food was good. Wanted to bring friends back to enjoy with us. Next time we stopped in no music very empty food was OK. We thought everyone has an off night. But then us came the night before valentine’s day. Didn’t have a reservation but there were plenty of tables. Asked to seat up by the fireplace rather romantic spot but could not say they were expecting people. So we’re disappointed instead had table that wobbled. They had a special that included steak which we got but they prepared it to soon then kept in warmer til we were done with salads then it was dry and overcooked. We hadn’t been back since then but thought it’s octoberfest it should be good. We ordered soup the potato was terribly salty the beer cheese soup was better but also salty. Sadly the butter had that sat in a fridge uncovered taste. We asked for more that one was better sauerbraten was good spaetzle was dry and parts of it burnt. Other entrée pork chops was very good. No atmosphere at all when we arrived only one other table occupied and they wanted to seat us at a ridiculously tiny spot. Only one other couple came in the whole time we were dining. I think they are really struggling but no German music it’s octoberfest for gosh sakes. Come on. The owner does all the cooking but needs to do something about the front. Too salty stinky butter burnt dry spaetzel no German music waitress with noisy clanking shoes nope won’t be returning again sad to say.

My family and I were really looking forward to this«well reviewed» German restaurant. Perhaps we are spoiled having each lived in Germany for years and our expectations are higher than other peoples because of it however the food was subpar and the service was non-existent. Service was herky jerky. At first our server was a bit pushy about taking our orders yet once the orders were placed we barely saw her again. We did see the two other servers who tended to us more than the one who’s supposed to be earning the tip. The food ordered included Chicken schnitzel, veal schnitzel, an assortment of sausages, and rouladen. My husband’s salad called a dusseldorf salad was supposed to come with kielbasa on top instead it was covered in croutons… The soup I ordered was delicious and cold. My sister and mother did not receive their cucumber salad at all. We were charged $ 8.50 for a bottle of San Pelligrino that we can purchase at Costco for $ 1. My Mom and sister enjoyed the Riesling that can be purchased at Trader Joe’s for $ 8. Our starters came out after a fifteen minute wait(for a salad and a cold cup of soup). Entrees took 45 minutes after ordering. My sister liked her veal schnitzel except it was burnt on the underside. My mother’s roulade was the highlight of the meal. It was EXCEPTIONAL. I ordered the chicken schnitzel and ate it because I ordered it. Its very hard to make a chicken schnitzel that isn’t great tasting. However, had I made it myself I would’ve tossed it out. Both schnitzel had gravy on them which was strange considering they shouldn’t have had any since they weren’t jagerschnitzel. Our sides were either croquettes, red cabbage, sauerkraut, or potato salad. The red cabbage was boring and lacked a fullness of flavor or zip. The potato salad was served cold and had a funny aftertaste. The sauerkraut was heinous. It tasted like pine sol. I love sauerkraut. I love many varities of sauerkraut. This was just nastykraut. When we told the owner/chef about the sauerkraut he argued that it was good and that’s what it tastes like in Germany. Between the four of us we had 20 years of life experience having lived in Germany… That’s not what sauerkraut is supposed to taste like. Fortunately the owner came over to break the monotony of the 45 minute wait for our dessert to go and the bill. My sister had to call across the dining room to get the server to take the bill. She was replied to with a curt«I was a little busy.» When we got home we tried the Black Forest cake that we waited so long for. Generic icky cool whip sat a top a cake that was half hard, half mushy, covered in canned pie cherries, and the cherries had sat out long enough to form a hard gel on some places. It was gross. I’m not sure how all these other reviewers managed to have a good meal here. We were so disappointed and we were looking forward to something special because of all the reviews. It was an expensive lesson to learn that sometimes you can’t trust the palates of other Unilocal reviewers. Avoid if you want to continue to love German food in our opinions.

I love this place. It’s far out in the boonies, might take a little while to get the food, and perhaps seems a bit odd in terms of ambience but the german entrees are awesome and the owners are incredibly sweet.

I have driven past this restaurant many times on way home from work and wanted to give it a try. I do love German food and we wanted to eat out tonight. I googled the restaurant name and checked out the website for the menu. I made a reservation and off we went. I live in the Poconos and this restaurant is so close in proximity only minutes from the Delaware water gap. Upon arriving we were warmly greeted. I loved the old world atmosphere. We ordered the starter special pretzel, salami and beer cheese and hofbrau beer on tap The beer was cold and amazing. The pretzels were delicious. For main course I ordered the best of the wurst platter which included bratwurst knock wurst and keibasi German sauerkraut and potato salad. My wife had chicken jaeger schnitzel. Both entrees arrived quickly, both of us loved our dishes, simply delicious hot and fresh My wife had dessert raspberry napoleon she described it as out of this world I strongly recommend this gem of a restaurant

Pretty solid food at this hidden German restaurant and beer garden by the river. The beer selection is good, though could use a few more adventurous German brews. The outside area is very nice for a sunny day and dogs are allowed. Service is friendly but a bit slow. The food is pretty good, though definitely on the Americanized German side, particularly the schnitzel burger. The fries were top notch though.

A great concept. The food is authentic German. The head chef/owner seems to be from and trained in German cuisine. Looks more like a biker bar which is OK since my wife and I rode there. Little beer garden/smoking area outside the main restaurant/bar. My wife and I shared a pretzel/salami combo appetizer. It came out as a large possibly homemade German pretzel with a great beer cheese dip. 6 slices of salami lined the bottom of the plate. Not too many beers on draught and 2 of the one I ordered had already kicked. Settled for Dinkelacker.

Three of us, one a complete German ‘home’ chef to the highest order, annoying even. We had great corn muffins, delicious Escargot in puff pastry, we all had a different schnitzel, AND a ‘homemade” Weisswurst. It was as good as German gets, my pal, the chef, was comparing it to his own specialties, and he loved it ! Not too pricey, everything was fresh, salad was extraordinare, no frozen crap, no ”deep fried schnitzel” all out of the pan with butter. We make it our hobby to search out German places, this was top notch food in a simple setting, loved every bite.

We planned on eating our Mothers’ Day meal here. We made a reservation in advance for five people and had everything set up. Our reservation was for 11:30. We arrived at 11:15 and they seated us right away. At first glance the restaurant seemed okay, the door was open and flies were allowed in, and the whole place shook when trucks drove by on RT46. The staff seemed pleasant and the the chef came out and greeted us. The staff knew very little about the menu and the special menu for Mothers’ Day. I ordered the Steak and eggs. It took a good 45mins for the food to arrive, but the food tasted excellent. The steak was juicy and the eggs were perfect. After our meal, the staff complained to us about how people didn’t show up for work and how the previous night people walked out due to the wait. I personally believe that it is unprofessional to announce this type of thing to customers. Overall the food was great, but the service was just OK.

I had so wanted German food, but my Mother’s Day eve dinner turned into the worst dinner I have ever experienced in my 60 years! The air conditioning was not turned on and the nonscreened dining room door was wide open for the flies to arrive at will. There is no atmosphere — we should have made an about-face when we walked in the door. My gut told me to do this(when will I listen to that inner voice?) The waitress warned us that the owner was the better cook, and he was cooking that evening because the regular chef hadn’t shown up, and a waitress had also failed to report for work. Sure, right. When she plopped down a very small basket of stale mini Shop Rite pretzels with side plates(what for?), my inner voice was shouting at a volume level of 100, but I remained hopeful. The table next to us finally sent a woman to find the waitress to complain they had been waiting for 1 ½ hours. We watched each tables’ occupants’ reactions when their food had finally arrived-silence, consumed, no positive comments except the french fries were good. In this small space, it was easy to hear conversations or at least see reactions. After having waited nearly two hours for our meal, the«food» was warm at best, side orders were on the wrong plates, the rice and spetzle were burnt, steak was like shoe leather, brioche was hard on the sandwich, gross, gross, gross, and not all plates were served simultaneously, so I can’t even describe what we had not yet received; need I say more? We were a party of six, and our waitress NEVER came to our table to ask if we wanted refills on our drinks and the three little pretzels I was forced to consume had made me very thirsty! My husband had to get up and go find her to bring me a glass of water. When our meal finally hit the table, it took us less than 3 minutes to stand up and walk out. The tables nearby nearly cheered for us having the guts to do so. One lady even said we were lucky because we didn’t have to eat the food. So, we ended up down the road at 9:00 p.m. at Hot Dog Johnny’s for a hot dog and ice cream. ‘not exactly what I had in mind. DONOTEATATTHISPLACE! SOS

We made a special trip to this place because we heard they have authentic German food. Lets just say I was not disapointed. This place is the real deal. The chef has a background in French cuisine so that comes through but the food is really excellent. I got the Sauerbraten. My experience with German food is limited so I don’t have much to compare it to, but the dish was a deliciously rich mix of savory and sweet flavors and the sides were very complementary. We also got the Game Pot Pie special which was uniquely prepared with a puff pastry and rich sauce. Service was excellent and draft selection included many German brews. If you are curious about German food, or just trying to get in touch with your heritage like me, this place is a great pick.
