I REALLY wanted to like this OBGYN after all the rave reviews. I sense they are still finding their way and working through kinks, which doesn’t make them operate like a well oiled machine. Without getting into too many details, which are personal and private, because after all, this is a gynecologist’s office… my largest concern is I don’t believe this practice has a concept of HIPAA laws and violations. It made me uncomfortable and immediately distrust them. While the doctor and staff are friendly, if they are blasting your or other patient’s medical business, friendliness somewhat goes out the door in my opinion. Because I was a new patient, intake took more than one hour although I was early for my appointment. When I mentioned it to the receptionist, she said it was because they had to call my insurance company and verify my insurance. Okie dokie. As I sat waiting along with four other women in the waiting area, we all heard one of the receptionist calling in a prescription via phone to include loudly disclosing a patient’s full name, date of birth, and specific prescription name. Although it wasn’t me or of any relation to me, I was mortified for that person! Talk about all privacy out the window! When I turned in my clipboard, the other receptionist loudly asked if I had any specific issue or problem I was there for. Ummm, Houston… if I do, I’d prefer to discuss it outside the presence of the audience of four. I politely said, «No,» although I did have a concern. It just wasn’t the correct setting for discreetness and privacy. After being called back an hour later, the initial receptionist took me into the exam room. She asked why I was there, we covered everything, she then took me out for weight and blood pressure. We returned to the exam room and I sat and waited. The doctor came in and looked displeased that I wasn’t in a gown. She asked if I’d been given one to which I replied«No,» she handed me one, and stepped out the room. As she stepped out, I could hear her lightly chastising the receptionist for not giving me a gown, etc. After fully undressing, the doctor returned. I told her I had just recently moved to this state and needed to establish doctors and dentists. I also shared with her my concerns I’d observed and overheard while in the waiting area. She seemed genuinely attentive and appreciative. I told her I didn’t want to snitch on her staff, I just take my medical privacy and that of others very seriously. She expressed full understanding and appreciation. The examination was fine, no details there. After I dressed and came out to check out, the doctor placed her hand on one of the receptionist’s shoulder and asked, «Was it her or her?» while pointing to the other chair. MORTIFIEDAGAIN! I guess I was to tattle-tell on both employees in front of them, which is usually not an issue for me, but this seemed a tad more confrontational than necessary. Finally, I walked to my car and remembered I did not have my prescription and we hadn’t discussed a pharmacy. I walked back in and told the receptionist the doctor forgot my prescription. The doctor was walking by and loudly said, «Oh for the — — — –.» Yes, doctor, for that. Did you want a microphone or megaphone too??? Geez! I’m not sure I’ll be back. In fact, I’m certain I won’t.
