I should have reviewed G&D long ago. We have been coming here for — um — decades. Salad bar is always fresh, love the steak, pizza, gyros, fries, etc. Service is always fast, courteous. Dine in or carry-out — always good. This place is so busy there is often a line at the cash register to pay.

Amazing food and wonderful service. I have several favorites here. I love their Greek salad, gyro, cheeseburger lunch, and their pizza. My mom always gets their spaghetti. You honestly can’t go wrong with anything on their menu. It’s been a family favorite for years.

Pizza, not great, though also not expensive. But, I might even rather have Domino’s.

Our favorite place in Columbia to relax and have great food. The prices are great, the service is the best in Columbia(these servers are the best trained I have ever experienced). The Greek dishes are delicious, the pizza is great, the steaks are tender. You can’t go wrong here.

Very fast paced atmosphere. Greeted and sat fast. Ordered a large sausage and Jalopeño pizza. Salad bar. Got a few autographs from mizzou players, who I guess frequently hang out there. Place was packed but staffed well so the wait time was not a issue. Ordered a 2nd pizza to go for lunch tomorrow at work.

We stopped in(on a recommendation) for a quick bite, parry of four(kids 4&8), the restaurant was so dirty I almost couldn’t stay to order, but we were in a hurry so decided to brave it because it was highly recommended. It took 18 minutes for someone to get us drinks. I ordered while she was there. We had a salad bar, 5 oz chicken breast and a large pizza, half cheese, half pepperoni and sausage. The other reviews are right. Chintzy on the toppings(almost too plentiful on the cheese) and the crust was as tasteless as cardboard. It finally arrived and came out cut into 2 bite pieces, sausage was sparse and I didn’t find much pepperoni. My kids hated it more than I did. We ended up driving through McDonalds… we paid twice. :-(

The pizza is not that good at all. The cheese tasted cheap, the sauce was okay, and the the toppings were very light it was as if they put only 5 of each topping on the pizza. It was not worth the price what so ever.

This review is mainly for the atmosphere. I am not a columbia native and I didn’t understand why people were so obsessed with this strange restaurant. I’ve come here now for lunch probably 10 times. My first 2 – 3 times, I still didn’t get it. Yep, cheap food, okay… Most of the time, we get one trip salads and either the cheeseburger or pizza lunch special. So, nothing out of the ordinary. Then one day, I suggested g&d and it finally clicked. It feels like home. It’s a comforting, quick, and reliable place to eat. Great for people watching and satisfactory food and service every time. I’ll be back.

Went in on a Friday evening as a party of 2 and we were promptly seated(big plus for CoMo). Our waitress started off very friendly and promptly took our food and drink order and was patient as we decided what to order. He decided on a large Country Music pizza and I ordered a 10 oz NY strip steak cooked rare as well as a trip to the salad bar. The salad bar was mediocre at best with the cheap flavorless iceberg lettuce and semi-crispy ‘fresh’ vegetables and all of dressing selections very obviously from a jar that were mass produced. It took around 25 minutes to get our first dish, which was my rare N.Y. strip steak, baked potato with butter & sour cream($ 0.50 extra) and texas toast. Then, about 10 minutes later his pizza finally showed up. All appeared appetizing. The cook temperature on the steak was perfect and it had been allowed to rest before it was brought out. That’s where the positive experience for me ended. The steak had absolutely NO seasoning and had as much inedible fat, gristle and silver skin as it did edible beef. The baked potato was over cooked with tough skin. The texas toast was dry with no butter or other seasoning on it. The pizza was hot, fresh and loaded with meat. He really enjoyed the pizza until we asked the waitress about their steaks & seasoning and we were greeted at that moment with a very arrogant attitude of ‘I don’t know, I just work here.’ And she refused to acknowledge us as unhappy customers and told us to say something on the way out as they don’t season any of their steaks. Our waitress was rude the rest of the time we were there. I attempted to discuss my displeasure at the quality(or rather lack of) of my meal, specifically my steak, with the manager running the cash register. He did indeed confirm that they only season their 6 oz filet mignon steaks and that’s with Lowry’s seasoning salt. I asked if I come in again if I could request my steak be seasoned with their ‘house’ steak seasoning. I felt this would bea reasonable request since the customer is always supposed to be right. He completely dismissed all of my issues(flavor and quality of the cut) and told me he could serve some seasoning on the side(as in refusing to season before it goes on the grill). Despite the good pizza, we were VERY dissatisfied with the customer service and the staff attitudes. Our server even mentioned arrogantly that she had been there many years… that’s very disheartening to hear but not surprising after encountering the manager’s attitude. We WILLNOT be returning to this restaurant location. Very disappointed as we’ve been customers of G&D for many, many years.

I’ve gone during lunch several times, and it’s always busy, but I get seated right away. The servers are friendly, as are the cashiers and cooks, who don’t mind taking a minute to chat it up with you. I wish there was a bit more natural light in the place, but given their location, that’s impossible, so not a big deal. Overall atmosphere is comfortable — you get the feeling a lot of the people there(customers and staff) know each other. I have tried appetizers, burgers, and gyros, and every time I leave very satisfied. They have the best gyros that I’ve tried in Columbia, though they’re not the best I’ve ever had. Rarely are the servers slow in refilling my soda, and that’s only when they’re quite busy.

Tried a steak and pizza, both were very good. Lots of people on a Saturday night. They do need to turn up the AC though.

Original review with photos can be found here: Road trip! This weekend we were out of town, but we still made time to try a new pizza place. This time it was G & D Pizzaria in Columbia, Missouri. G & D is more than just a pizza place. In fact, they are actually a Greek restaurant that does steaks, sandwiches, gyros and a lot more. Walking inside the rather large restaurant, we were greeted with a «Hello, friend!» from one of the owners standing behind the counter of the open kitchen. The busy kitchen features a well used Baker’s Pride deck oven and a pizza sheeter turning out really thin pizzas. We were shown to a booth immediately and were surprised at how busy the place was for 11:30 a.m. on a Friday. It was packed. We quickly decided on garlic cheese bread, a 7″ pizza with pepperoni and sausage and a grilled chicken breast sandwich. Wait. What? Yes, the Pizza Wife didn’t want pizza today. Along with our food, the Pizza Wife ordered a soft drink. Much to her delight(hand clapping did ensue), they have crushed ice. Our garlic cheese bread arrived quickly and was served with plenty of marinara for dipping. The bread was just hot dog buns that are covered in cheese and garlic powder, but they were surprisingly good. The marinara sauce was very flavorful and had a deep, almost smokey note to it. Unusual and tasty. The 7″ pepperoni and sausage pizza was served on the standard metal pizza tray. Just like a supermodel, the crust here is impossibly thin and flaky. It measured right about 1/8″ thick, but was firm enough to hold the loads of pepperoni and cheese. Around the outside of the pizza they fold the crust under its self to form a thicker edge. A really good idea if you’re making pizza this thin. The sausage at G & D is absolutely fantastic. Very flavorful with just the right amount of spice. Very large hunks of spicy sausage found its way onto my pizza. The pepperoni is placed under the cheese here. At G & D they use slices of cheese instead of shredded cheese. I’m not certain if it makes a difference in taste, but it’s worth noting. I do know that this was definitely a tasty pizza. While I’d prefer a bit thicker and chewier crust, this was still a great pit stop on our road trip. The Good: Huge menu, very flavorful and fresh sausage, very friendly staff The Bad: Crust that’s just a little too thin for our taste. Oven: Deck oven Crust: Very thin and flaky Sauce: Rich, deep taste Cheese: Sliced and on top of most toppings Review by The Omaha Pizza Review Crew

I’ve got a lot of fond memories of this place, particularly the time where my father braved the winter storm so he could take me to eat here on my 8th birthday more than 20 years ago. That was the place where I discovered the Double Dragon video game and remember playing it many times while waiting for the food to arrive. The restaurant has since expanded greatly in size but the food is still great. Their pizza is really good and quite different. If you’re in Columbia then I highly recommend you try the place!

Pizza was just okay — a little too greasy for my taste — and the salad bar didn’t look very appetizing. The place is popular, though; I went on a week night and it was packed with families. I wouldn’t consider going back for the pizza, but maybe the Greek entrees deserve a try.

A Columbia landmark. You are likely to see all the«famous» locals here including the Mizzou basketball or football coach, mayor, or local TV anchors. It’s a great place to bring the family. The service is fast and friendly(full disclosure – most of the waitresses are college girls with low tops and short skirts). Mom and Dad can grab a beer while kids play pop a shot in the foyer. The restaurant is run by a Greek family that has several restaurants around town. They import the Feta cheese from Bulgaria and the olive oil from a family vineyard in Greece. You can buy both to take home. You can’t go wrong with any item on the menu. We love the Horiatiki salad – fresh olives, large slices of feta, tomatoes and cucumbers served with homemade greek dressing. Big enough to share. We also love the Greek spaghetti. Olive oil, oregano and feta over spaghetti served with pita bread. The gyros are fresh and yummy. And last but not least – amazing pizza. The crust is thin and crispy. You can order traditional flavors or go for the Greek – you got it, more feta, olive oil and oregano. We have made our own creation – gyrom meat and bannana peppers with a side of tzatziki sauce to dip the slices in. YUM!
