I’d like to be able to give less than a star for this doctor because of his unbelievable comments towards breast feeding. I moved here from Seattle though I am from here. Maybe the doctors there are more progressive or more breast feeding friendly but whatever the case, this doctor is DEAD wrong and giving many parents WRONG instructions. I was told to wean my daughter at age 1 when it is actually recommended to continue until age 2. Then he tells me to give her whole cows milk instead? Um what?! Why would I give my baby who is receiving my local, organic, FREE, healthy milk and swap that for another species milk that’s got tons of antibiotics in it plus it’s no where near as good for you as human milk. He actually told me there was no benefits to my milk after age 1!!! Where did this guy go to school?! If there were no benefits to my milk, why the hell would you consider giving her another species milk?! Come on, am I the only one who dies any research at all? Of course he doesn’t directly talk to me because I’m merely a woman and too lowly of gender to understand this man, so he talks to my daughters father instead. I’m completely in shock the entire time, so I didn’t really argue with him. Besides, you can fight utter ignorance with logic, so it was no use. Then he makes me feel bad for not giving her a flu shot, though we do vaccinate. Just not the stupid flu. Read up on it if you gave a problem with me saying that. It’s bogus. So it comes time to get her shots. Naturally he leaves and some lady comes in who I thought was a pretty nice gal. Turns out she’s every bit as ignorant as he is. I’m not allowed to hold my child while she sticks her 5 times in the outer thigh while she screams and kicks about. How is that easier for her to be held down? If I were able to hold her, she wouldn’t of acted like that. But what do I know? I’m just her mom and all. Plus the lady stuck her aggressively. How badly do you think that feels on your outer thigh? Just not right. Not at all. So back to the breast feeding… upon leaving I did notice tons of formula material everywhere and not one single thing on breast feeding. Not a one. I also noticed a lot of moms feeding their babies formula. I’d say all of them were actually. I wonder why. I wonder how much this doctor is making off them using formula because you do realize that formula companies pay them to push their products right??? Anyway, never again will I go here and I will make damn sure that I tell this to everyone I know, everyone who has a child, every breast feeding advocate out there and quite possibly report him for saying this stuff to me when it’s totally NOTTRUE. Please please don’t take your child to this man. He’s nice, but totally not for the optimal health of your child. If he was, he’s never suggest formula or weaning or blatantly lie to his patients.

We love Dr. Castless! I lived in Austin, Cary, Columbia and Charleston and had that many pediatric experiences. All good but Dr. Castless stands out. He’s well mannered, witty and great with babies and young kids. When we go for a checkup I feel he is a parent first(he has 6 kids of his own) on top of a very experienced doctor. He practices at Pediatric Associates(4th floor of building 14 inside Richland Medical Park close to where Hwy 277 turns into Bull Street). The practice is spacious, well equipped and the staff is very friendly. I highly recommend Dr. Castless as your pediatric doctor.
