I am discusted! I walking into this futility and immediately smell feces. Now I know people are reading this and saying to themselves«Oh, she overreacting.» No it really did and I would know because I work as a CNA. This place was dirty and the waiting room was loud. Then I walk up to the front desk where Im not greeted but interact with rude employee. At that time I was told to come back at a latter time and this process would take 4 hours. Now I don’t know if that a reasonable time or not but I was just surprised to hear it. So I turn to leave and as Im walking out I notice, where the floor meets the wall all around the room are bug traps… Bug Traps!!!

The first time I attempted to donate, I was turned away after waiting an hour because of some medication that I was on. I was told that if it was not a continuous medication, I could wait 8 days and return. Which I did. The second time I attempted to donate, I made it through the paperwork(again), screening(heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, blood sugar levels and protein levels and sent back for a physical examination. This is where you are asked a series of questions about your health and they listen to your hear, lungs and do a urine test. I did not make it through this time either. I was asked to have my doctor complete paperwork to give approval that I could donate plasma. I was told that once the paperwork was completed, I could return. Which I did. The third time I attempted to donate, I brought my paperwork from the doctor giving me clearance to donate plasma. I was told that because it was after 5pm — they were no longer adding donors for the day. I was told that I could return the following day. The fourth time has not been attempted yet. I understand the need to be careful throughout the screen process to ensure the plasma being donated is beneficial to the person who receives it and maintain the safety of the person donating it. Some tips and tricks: *Come prepared to be there 3 – 4 hours the first time. Bring your ID/Drivers license and Social Security Card. Also bring something to keep you busy like a book or ipod. It is my understanding that cell phones are not allowed because the machines work on the same frequency as the cell phones. You will be asked to power down or turn off the sound of your cell phone. * Drink plenty of water or juice(soda, tea, coffee, etc do not count). Hydration means your donation will move more quickly and you will be able to leave more quickly. * Eat a well balanced meal before you go to donate. I eat an hour before so it will digest as I am going through screening. BTW… screen is something that takes place EVERY time you go to donate. Screening includes: blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, blood sugar level and blood protein level. Because your sugar and protein levels are checked each time you come in to donate — be cautious of what you eat beforehand. Do not eat items high in sugar or fat. This will get you looped into retaking the levels and if you cannot pass the second time — then you will be deferred for the day(means you go home) and start all over the next time you go. I hope the information I’ve provided helps someone. Please don’t let the time discourage you from donating. After you complete the full process — it will only take about 60 – 90 minutes to donate and you making a huge difference in someones life. My understanding is that the first time donation pays $ 40. You will see in the paperwork that you must return for a second donation otherwise they cannot use the first donation(I don’t recall why). When you return for your second donation you are paid $ 60. The third donation is $ 50. After that I do not know. I am unaware if it stays at $ 50 or if payment goes up or down. Feel free to contact me or make comments and I will answer any questions that I can about the plasma donating experience. **Please note I am not a medical professional and I am not an employee of Talecris Plasma Center.
