This complex is terrible. The landlord doesn’t do anything to fix the apartments. The carpet hasn’t been changed in years, and neither have the cupboards. Cars get stolen all the time. There also homeless people who sleep in the hallways, people who destroy the laundry room, people who lock themselves in the laundry room so it can’t be used, or simply the land lord forgets to unlock it. The pool is nasty, unkept, and plain atrocious. The land lord also has a terrible employee who can’t be nice to her tenants. She is the rudest leasing agent I’ve ever seen. Anytime a window is broken. You practically have to spend all winter in the cold before they’ll come fix it. Let’s see, the hallways smell like dog pee, and there are tenants who allow their dog to poop in the hallway. I’ve had my car antenna broken off by the drunks here. There also people who party, scream and all other things outside at 2am. It’s not fun having to hear about neighbours issues in the middle of the night. During fall, leaves are tracked into the hallway and stay for months. However, they seem to have hired someone to vacuum occasionally. That’s about it.

It’s not really safe. Another tenant’s car was stolen several months before my car was broken into last month. My neighbor told me that there’s been plenty of car theft on that side of the building over the past few years. I asked the office if they’d send out a memo(because I’d want to know if there was a series of thefts in the parking lot) or if they’d get security cameras for that end of the building. No memos were sent and the manager kind of shut down my camera suggestion right off the bat. Apparently they have a service that drives through the lot at random intervals in the night-but I have yet to see this car more than two or three times over the past seven months. The accumulation of dog poop at the perimeter of the building(because certain tenants let their dogs run loose at times) is also rather alarming. BUT they do have free dog poo bags and a sign that says«Pet waste spreads disease» on the north end of the building so I guess that was the solution? There’s also a band of raccoons(I kid you not-I’ve seen 5 or 6 in there at once) that raid the dumpster nightly. Sometimes a dude raids the dumpster too. They can be pretty loud. There’s also a homeless camp just across the creek, but that’s not really Hyde Park’s fault. That’s just worth mentioning. The staff is nice. They will give you a $ 5 Starbucks gift card on your birthday. Doesn’t really make up for the $ 500 insurance company deductible when your stuff gets stolen. It was kind of odd that they gave me the gift card a week after my birthday, even though I was in the rental office on my actual birthday to inform them my car was broken into the night before. The apartment is okay though. I like the apartment. Not the worst place to live but I am regretting my choice.
