The food is always cooked to order. The lunch special is my family’s favorite. I clean my plate here. I don’t usually eat a lot but the food is so good that I finish all of it.

This is a great lunch place! We always get the lunch special for around $ 6. It consists of 2 sticks of yakitori chicken, a mound of white rice, a huge serving of cabbage with a good dressing sauce on top, 1 onion ring, and a cup of chicken broth before hand. The service is incredibly fast, especially if you order the lunch special. A few years back, their onion rings were voted Best of Springs, so you might want to order an extra side of onion rings. We always order extra sauce and a catsup for the onion ring. We came here once at night(and you can still order the lunch special) but we were almost the only couple there. However, their take-out business was hopping! Their dinner special includes, I believe, an extra skewer of chicken and an extra serving of rice. Décor on walls and artifacts are quite interesting, worth a second look. Other food items that go by look great, but we come here for just this one favorite entrée!

Pretty good but I like the south academy location better. This place could use a good cleaning. Tons of Asian nick knacks, almost seemed like they were on display for sale maybe? Server was polite and promptly greeted us/took our orders. The soup(which is not available for take out) was very tasty. Gyoza was awesome too. Chicken skewers were ok, kinda dry. Tatsuta(marinaded cubes of beef that’s lightly battered and fried) was slightly overcooked as well. The yakitori on south academy offers the lunch menu which has smaller portions all day. I’ll probably be sticking to that location.

This review is based on the fact that they make up their hours as they go. Twice now I’ve planned to eat there-during their posted hours-and they were closed. I had planned to have my husband’s birthday dinner there, but they were closed. Hours say 11 – 8, I planned on 6:30, called to make sure they could accommodate a big party, and they were already closed at 3. I’m done with this location. Food is good, but the Academy location is better.

Have been going here for many years. Owner is amazing. They have fast service & prices are very fair. Lots of food for the money I actually crave their food. Never disappointed. Lunch special is a perfect combination. Onion rings are yummy

Some of the most amazing Japanese food I’ve ever had. It’s incredibly simple but I can’t think of a time when I didn’t want to go here. Prices are good and staff is friendly to. There are several around town and the one I used to always go to closed down. But I’m happy so long as I can get my hands on a lunch special.

I have literally been coming to yakitori since I was a kid, and myself, along with EVERYONE else I know that knows of yakitori loves this place. The locations are pretty tiny, and yet the décor and vibe is all wonderful, casual, genuine and comfortable. The food is simple and delicious, and also most importantly, consistent, at any location. Best«meat on a stick» and teriyaki sauce in town. Their onion rings are covered in panko and their simple cabbage salads never get old. This place in general will never get old. I will be a lifer at yakitori. ;)

So here’s the deal with me and yakitori. I’ve loved it, liked it, and gotten sick from eating too much of it. I also love to frequent local businesses(see many previous reviews), to eat great food, and cheap good food is even better.(Also, a liquor license never hurts) So I was pretty ready to max out on some tasty yakitori and tempura seafood. Unfortunately, the food was less than something I desired. Way less. I was so sad. How do you overcook yakitori? It’s dark meat chicken grilled with sauce. However you make that happen, house of yakitori did it. The sauce was good but the chicken was awful. Legitimately awful. The«tempura» shrimp and scallops were very poor quality, overdone, and super rubbery. Also, the décor is Thai. Yakitori is Japanese. I think this is VERY confusing to the common westerner. Also, it makes people put all clump all Asian food in the same category. That is not the case. The only reason this place got the second star was because they had great customer service and speed. I’m honestly not sure how they carry a four star review. I would give this place another shot but… Ain’t nobody got time for that.

Awesome service, everytime! So fast and great lunch and dinner specials too! I frequent this place several times a month and notice a lot of the same people regularly visit as well, so it seems its secretly a locals favorite place.

Delightful surprise, Chicken was good, white rice and some slaw and broth. Ordered extra rings which were thick and very good… however I would ask for ketchup or ranch with them not the mayo they served them with. Coke products in CAN. Good service and food was hot.

I’ve been going here for years, even when they were over on Union in a remodeled Dunkin Donuts building. One of these days I will actually try something off the menu, I get either the lunch or dinner special, either available anytime. The dinner is an extra skewer of chicken and more salad and rice. Both start with a bowl of clear soup. Both are served with the second-best onion ring(s) in town. Lunch has one, dinner has two. The salad is cabbage with dressing, very crisp and fresh. The décor is nothing to write home about, and I wouldn’t use it for a date night unless my date was familiar with it. The murals are very nice, and I strongly suggest visiting the rest rooms and admiring the murals in there as well. Cloth towels are provided in the bathrooms, a very environmental statement. P. S. The best onion rings are at the Tavern in the Broadmoor, but you will be expected to tip the valet there almost as much as the lunch special costs here. This is a very casual place, it is about getting something to eat, not a «dining experience.» And it is quick. And good.

This place is the bomb! I’ve been eating here for over 20 years, and it’s never disappointed! They used to be over on Union, now they are here. The lunch special is cheap and wonderful. 2 skewers of chicken, rice, cole slaw and an onion ring. Yes, only one onion ring but man is it tasty! I always ask for a side of the yakitori sauce and drizzle it all over my rice.(Also, if you want ketch up for your onion ring ask when you order, they don’t automatically bring it!) all of this tasty food for around $ 5 — what a steal! If they had one of these in LA I would eat here all of the time!

This place is the best! My friend took me here about a year ago and now I enjoy their lunch special at least once a month. It is very affordable(cheaper than a value meal at McDonald’s) and it always tastes great! They are fast and friendly. I have not tired much other than the lunch special, but that is worth it alone! I’ve taken pretty much everyone I have known and now they are all hooked on it too. The restaurant its self is nothing to write home about, but there is a lot of different art and nik-naks to look at!

I really like this Yakitori. I always get the same lunch(soup, yakitori, rice, coleslaw-type salad, and an onion ring). Food is yummy, service is fast and friendly, and the price is a deal!

Yum! Went here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Yakitori is a Japanese style of skewered, grilled chicken. It is drizzled with sweet brown sauce and served with rice, cabbage salad, onion rings and you can also choose some of their battered and fried beef– the name escapes me at the moment. #7 was what I ordered. First of all, you get TONS of food. I’m not a huge meat-eater, and so this was a bit of a stretch for me, but really I did enjoy it. All of the flavors melded very well together; one of those dishes where you can take a little bite of everything at once and it tastes wonderful. Atmosphere: Pretty sparse, with lots of the decorations you might expect at a place like this: giant Buddhas, wall paintings, etc. And, much to my happiness, they had a karaōke stage! If you’re looking for a reasonably priced, quick lunch this is a good place to check out.
