This here is some grade A coffee. The first time I had this I was at a friends house and he had recently been to South America and I thought it was grounds he brought back with him! But nope local roasted coffee! Support your community, the small businessman, and drink the best coffee available. That’s what being American is all about.

College Station finest brew. Roasted on site, authentic beans, plenty of variety and super for gifts. A local gift that creates buzz– both by the name and consumption. Why buy anything or anywhere else?

They have fresh coffee, probably the freshest in town. And yes, — it’s better to buy directly from them than at HEB — as it is same day fresh at the shop. I’ve tried several different flavors, — there were none that I disliked, and there were quite a few really good ones. But I have one problem with the shop itself: they are not flexible in their sales. I don’t drink much coffee these days. So, I don’t want to buy a large(is it 1 lb or 0.5 lb?) bag at HEB. I’d rather buy ¼ lb. at a time or better yet a couple of different flavors, 1⁄8 lb each, so that I can have it fresh and not get wasted the rest. I’d rather come back soon for more fresh coffee. Unfortunately, they cannot have that, the best the allowed me to do is to go with two different flavors, at a half of their minimum weight each(and charged the price of the more expensive one of the two). The end result: I still have substantial quantity of unused beans. They are no longer fresh, so they are not as appealing anymore, but since I have them, I cannot justify going back and buying more. So, this shop doesn’t have my business despite having nice coffee. The lack of understanding of what is good for a customer is a typical problem for businesses in this part of TX.

The freshest coffee in the BCS. I met with the owner, Rodrigo, for a tour and learned a lot about the quality of coffee and their processes. My favorite so far is the Guatemala La Pastoria. This is a medium roast with citrus and chocolate tastes. I was blown away by how smooth this coffee tastes. Their price point is comparable to other specialty coffees. I currently have bought The Good Stuff Blend and Colombia Sierra Nevada and looking forward to enjoying great quality coffee.

You can come here and get coffee beans roasted within 24 hours of your visit and that is awesome. They have a various prices for different beans, but the cheapest ones are 12 $/lb or 6.50 for a half pound. I’ve tried probably almost 10 different varieties from here and so far the papa new guinea is my favorite. Can be hard to locate as it is not terribly obvious, but it is like a street behind the BCS food market. You can find their beans at HEB, but I think the prices are a bit higher there and also they’re not as freshly roasted unless you come direct.

Being a coffee lover means needing good coffee. What’s The Buzz Coffee roasts in house every day and the results are phenomenal. The coffee is not burnt tasting like Starbucks because it is roasted daily. It makes a world of difference. Their coffee is the best. Don’t get it confused though — this place is not a coffee shop where you sit down and have a cup of Joe. This is a roastery so the sole purpose of What’s the Buzz is to roast great coffee beans. And they do! To make things even better, it is a little hole in the wall place. The business itself almost looks as if it is in a storage unit but there are a few rows of small businesses back in the same area. I love hidden treasures and my husband and I were incredibly happy to find this gem. The owner is from Guatemala(I believe) and he is incredibly personable and seems like a very caring person. When we first went in there he had just returned from a trip in Guatemala tasting coffee! If you want great beans and great service — go to What’s the Buzz.

Well who am I to ruin a solid 5 star rating? Well actually I did before so hopefully this makes up for it. Anyone that knows me knows that I have reviewed almost anything and everything in College Station not only worth mentioning, yet possibly not. :) Why would I never review a local roastery? I actually was the FTR in summer of 2010, gave it 5 stars after my wife and I shopped in the new location and started drinking their coffee. We still do to this day. In fact I we enjoyed some yesterday in a Contract Killer Coffee Porter at Blackwater Draw Brewing Co. on Northgate.(Good stuff try it!) It’s wonderful coffee. Am a fan and would LIKE them on Facebook if I used it. So where is my FTR? Unilocal deleted it. Why? Well, last year my wife and I bought a bag of their coffee at HEB Towerpoint only to discover that the weight was reduced and the price was increased plus it had some rocks in it.(a naturally occurring solid aggregate of one or more minerals or mineraloids.) So I posted a less than 5 star review. What happened a few days later is that the owner contacted me through Unilocal and clearly explained two important and correct facts. 1) Once they sell the coffee to HEB they can not control their actions as a retailer. So it was actually HEB that screwed the consumers. Surprise surprise that a grocer out of control in this community would screw the customer? 2) Having rocks and other items is a constant issue with hand harvested coffee that happens«all the time as hard as they try to catch it». I thought long and hard about that, and while I am sure I would never get a rock in Folgers I don’t drink Folgers because it sucks. Finding the rocks actually, after explanation by the owner boosted my interest and confidence in the coffee as being very unrefined and thus fresh and special. And then bam the day later Unilocal deleted both my original review and the update. I admit that the update was not correct as I had no idea HEB was scamming people. Bottom line is that for me this coffee rocks.(now that’s punny!) I don’t drink much but wife does and we always have some Buzz in our pantry. Local, fresh and damn good. And obviously they do care about their reputation on social media. AAA+++

When I moved to College Station in 2010 I found myself unsatisfied with the quality of the coffee at the various brewed cafes around town. While I still have not found that café**, What’s the Buzz roasts my absolute favorite coffee beans and have filled that void. They are incredibly full of flavor. My personal favorite is the Fair Trade/Organic Ethiopia Amaro. It tastes like chocolate. I also love the Ethiopia Yirgachefe cold brewed. The staff and owner are great people – very friendly and will happily answer any questions you may have. Do yourself a favor, and buy your beans here! **I have a personal dream that WTB will open a café one day, or they will contract out for someone to brew their killer beans in the way they deserve to be brewed.

(Update: Hard to find by address, its in the back, more like on Valley View Drive.) Just moved here a few months ago from the Columbia Gorge area of Washington/Oregon area. Very deprived of a great coffee roaster, until now! Very friendly and has some great beans from around the World, a must to anyone in the BCS looking for great coffee beans roasted to perfection. Enjoy

If you love coffee, you’ll love the beans roasted at What’s the Buzz. To be clear, this isn’t a coffee house, though they do have a sample pot that you can have small cups from. So what is the place? It’s a roastery. And the coffee is easily good enough to compete with great roasteries like Intelligentsia in Chicago. It’s that good. And, oh, do they roast, with a particular point of view. The perspective here seems to be that the west-coast coffee companies like Starbucks(and even Peets, so beloved by my CA friends) burn their beans. John and his people at What’s the Buzz, by contrast, don’t burn the beans, and the result is coffee that’s not at all bitter, but full of flavor. The staff there love coffee — all of them. They have rich vocabularies that discriminate between different coffee-growing regions, all of which helps you find the coffee that you’d like the most. And their coffees come from every region of the coffee-growing world. They roast every day, so you’ll always have fresh coffee. And the prices are very reasonable, from $ 12 to $ 14 per pound — cheaper than Starbucks. And given the taste difference, there’s no reason to buy beans from the Seattle people again.

Hidden behind small business and the great shadow of Walmart, What’s The Buzz Coffee waits for locals. Walk through the white cover doors into the roasting coffee beans. Hearing the roaster chaffing the beans skin entices one to stay. Burlap coffee sacks covered walls tower over the counter. The sign scribbled in the back right corner blur in my vision. Fair-trade mexican chiapas, Ethiopian berry blend, and various other coffee regions reminds me the flavors of home. Fair-trade is always a delight and a better taste in my opinion. I asked for to see the Ethopian Blueberry, Yemeni coffee and Ethopian fair. The strong Yemen coffee stirred my taste to imagine it as a morning cup. I took ½ lb home. Freshly grind and at a reasonable price, this is the place to grab your fair-trade coffee.

You’ll not find better coffee beans in town. What’s the Buzz is a local micro-roastery located just North of Goodwill. The beans are always freshly roasted, visit the website to learn more. If you’re in Bryan, the Village Café downtown uses What’s the Buzz beans.
