On October 15th, 2010 John David Crow the 1957 Heisman Trophy winner’s statue was unveiled in front of the newly renovated Bright Football Complex just in the shadow of Kyle Field(which was much smaller — the shadow is way larger now). No one knew at the time that another«John» would come along and snatch up yet another Heisman. And thank god there’s no statue of Johnny, yet. :) To me it’s somewhat odd to have such an honor of someone that’s still alive. I’ve met the man twice and he’s jovial and avuncular. The United States Postal Service has a strict policy of not honoring anyone on a US postage stamp until at least 10 years past their death, with the exception of US Presidents and that’s on their birthday after day the following year. But thank god John Crow’s not dead. He still comes to the games. Just wonder what he thinks when he looks at this thing. I’m guessing it’s like, 12 feet tall? It’s in a good place. I feel like it shows the football players what could happen if you really kick some serious ass in the game.
