I just moved to umd and have been to the food collective 3 times! There are so many positives about the organization AND the food is good. The food collective is student owned and run and all of their options are organic and advocate for sustainability. They have great sandwiches my favorite so far has been the falafel sandwich. They have vegan, vegetarian, and organic meat options. They also have a daily hot plate if you want something more substantial. There are also small organic snack and grocery items available such as cliff bars, almond milk, and bottled teas.

Located in the basement of Stamp. The co-op is hands down the best food option on campus. The price is right – about $ 7 for a sandwich or salad and a apple, for example– and you can volunteer to earn $ 7/hour in food credits! Definitely vegan/vegetarian oriented. My current favorite is the Mediterranean salad, but the Green Monster wrap is great too! They are generous with the veggies, and their hummus is definitely on point.(Substitutions/building your own salad or sandwich can result in adding a couple dollars, so be wary if you’re picky.) There’s a hot plate option at lunch(starting at noon), which is always yummy, and the fridge is full of burritos and salad-y options if you’re in a hurry.

I worked here as a volunteer back in grad school and went back a couple of days ago when I was at UMD. Nothing’s changed — the place still rocks! Cheap, healthy, yummy food, smiling service and a plethora of random vegan stuff! School has not started yet, so their timings are limited, but when they are open — they are downright awesome! :)

We gotta fight the power, fight the powers that be. Powers in this case meaning the very limited dining options around the UMD Campus. Luckily for everyone who loves sustainable economic models, fresh food, and a funky vibe, there’s the Maryland Food Collective. I was at UMD for a week-long conference, and on the one day we didn’t have lunch provided, I was super excited to get a sandwich here. Don’t remember what was on it, except it involved avocado and sourdough bread and therefore was automatically delicious. My meal was pretty darn cheap, too!

I stumbled across this the last time I was in the Stamp! Amazing little place. Employees are helpful/friendly and they really seem to embrace the co-op feel. I got one of the salads(with lots of modifications) and it was delicious and the best deal in the Stamp in terms of food options. Big selection of refrigerated teas/juices. I’ll definitely be returning soon!

Best food on UMD campus. Also one of the best places to eat in College Park(though that doesn’t say much). They seem to always have fresh ingredients, offer a wide variety of veggies, and have quite the repertoire of ‘Hot Meals’ which rotate daily and are made by different people every time. Also Grad students get a discount on Fridays. In conclusion: Dat Falafel, and Dem lentil burgerz

My favorite place to eat on campus. There’s no way you’ll find organic fresh vegetables this good for so cheap in the District! I get their Green Monster – vary between wrap and salad version – each time. It’s delicious! I think I’m addicted to their red pepper vinaigrette. I also love that they have a lot of vegan and dairy-free foods and desserts. As a vegetarian that is lactose intolerant, this place is heavenly. Want an inexpensive bagel with vegan cream cheese and a cup of delicious organic coffee? You’ll find it for the same price(if not cheaper) as other commercial stores nearby. The service is also great. It’s a chill vib with people who are helpful and kind. I wish there were places like this everywhere – specifically next door to me in D.C., but I doubt this will ever happen. I’ll have to enjoy the treat when I schlep up to campus!

Food co-op’s the bomb! When I used to go to UMCP, I went to this place almost every single day. This place’s very organic, vegetarian and vegan(not all stuff) friendly. Their vegetarian hot food(available during lunch time only) are unique & vary every single day. The price’s also vary since it’s based by weight. I’m usually a big fan of meat but this place definitely exposed & taught me to love veggies a lot more. Their sandwiches(available all day) are legit with so many stuff you can choose from: a lot of unique spreads(baba ganoush, many varieties of mustard, etc), seasonal veggies & fake meat(chicken salad, etc). Their sandwiches can be really cheap depending on how much stuff you put in it. But $ 3-$ 4 sandwiches’re definitely doable for fake meat /tuna, 1 type of veggie, sauce + bread /wrap. I’d also recommend their snacks such as dried fruit(dried banana = highly recommended) & bagels in the morning(good varieties of bagels & spreads)! Their staff’re extremely friendly even though they can be a bit eccentric lol. They’d remember you and strike conversations if you go there enough. I still remember that 1 night during umd event when they invited to watch black & white movies while sleeping on the floor & drinking hot apple cider at like 2 am lol… Good times…

I live in Vegas but I come back to campus a few times each year and I always hit up the Co-Op. I loved this place when I was a student at UMCP and I’m glad to see that, for the most part, it hasn’t changed…

I think the best thing about this place is the cheap organic coffee that actually tastes better than much of the other coffee offerings on campus. The food here sure is healthier. I had to wait in a decently long line to order my sandwich however, but I would say it was worth the wait. I will probably just be coming back for the coffee since I am a broke college student.

It’s nice that this place exists. Vegetarian-friendly, collectively owned food store with groceries and prepared food in the basement of the UM student union. Small place; no substitute for MOM’s or anything, but frankly it’s about the only place on campus I’d ever get food. Their prices are all rounded to the nearest 25 cents, so keep that in mind and bring quarters.

The Co-Op is an amazing place. Anyways the Co-Op sells delightful sandwiches, bagels, pre-made curries, burritos, and lots of organic food. Their giant gumball machine gives me the dizzies because the gumball goes super fast in concentric circles down the perimeter of the machine until it pops out. I especially like that you can make your own sandwiches here, and you add on toppings for like 20 cents extra. They also serve a price-fixe item for the day, which comes out on a silver plate. I also had the Co-Op cater what unfortunately turned out to be a lame event of mine on-campus that drew an underwhelming audience of only 15 people when I had been expecting like 100 people. It wasn’t the Co-Op’s fault! The food was amazing. I got this big veggie platter plus like 100 bagels and cream cheese and coffee. Plus all that extra hummus lasted for several days.

Not many people know about the vegan shop in the basement of Stamp Student Union! But it is a great option for people who love international cuisine. They have a different lunch cooked everyday and it is really cheap and very healthy! My favorite days are Ethiopian day and Indian day. I spend around 4 – 6 $ there everyday! I also love the sandwiches. I get the Vegan Paradox on Multigrain bread, which is just vegan chicken salad, avocado, spinach, carrots, and red pepper vinaigrette!!! My favorite!!!

This place is a great spot to grab some healthy food on campus. Being a new vegan I am impressed with the knowledge of the ingredients that the staff posses. Food is good for what it is, I just wish they hot specials were less hit-or-miss in terms of taste. I’ve had great ones and terrible ones. I think I’ll be sticking to the falafel wrap… It’s delicious!

Still going strong as far as I could tell, but don’t expect much, it’s a fairly ratty little store in the basement of the Stamp student union. While attending meetings upstairs I dropped in for a huge tuna salad sandwich, it was loaded with tomato, cheese, sprouts, salad, peppers etc. Six bucks was a fair price but not cheap. The sandwich guy was friendly and checkout was quick. Added a couple bags of snacks and dried fruit for a few bucks more. Coffee is about a buck and a quarter for a cup, wish I had seen that sooner! I like this little place a lot better than the fast-food options in the food court on the ground floor.

Perfect place to get a good lunch between classes. They always have a different hot food special and a sandwich station that is cheap and delicious with good variety. I am not a vegetarian, but fell in love with their vegan chicken salad. It is peppery with a nice texture. My sister lives for taco Tuesday. Great bagels(mostly gone by 11) and coffee for breakfast and it is cheap enough to go every day. The workers are always awesome and they have a program where you can volunteer for food credit. I worked for a few hours on a Saturday and I am set for the whole week.

Ah, being a UMD alum, this place brings back good memories. Located downstairs in the stamp student union, this co-op is all about organic, home grown, small business good. I really admire their concept, and motivation. They have their own little shop in the back corner of the store. I really like their hummus sandwiches with chopped carrot, lettuce, tomato and whatever else you want to add to it. Brown rice and tofu is pretty good too, just add a little hot sauce to it and you’re good to go. They also pack the food and keep it in the fridge. If you’re in a hurry you can just get it from the fridge and there are two microwaves for you ready. I usually came here for their hummus and veggie sandwiches, but occasionally i got some pretzels, and dried banana. They also have fresh bagels in the morning, and also a day old bagel that’s cheaper. They some good drinks there too. I use to get the green tea there, because I’m a fan of it. Needless to say, this place sold a variety of stuff, and you’d have to explore it. Also, this place only accepts CASH.

This co-op is awesome. There’s so much food to choose from, a sandwich line, and tons of places to sit and hang out by the co-op. I really like how close it is to the rest of campus and the people that work there are so friendly and helpful. I came to visit the co-op during the summer and got to meet some of the awesome people that work there. They were so inviting and welcoming, which is really nice to find. And they’re finding to provide local, organic food to their campus while corporate food is taking over their campus. SCARY. way to go maryland food collective, you guys are awesome.

This is the only place that I’ll eat on campus. I’m the girl that always gets either the hot special or her usual spinach wrap for 3.35(spinach wrap w two slices tofurkey, two slices soy cheese, sprouts, mushrooms, pickled jalapenos, spinach then nuke it in the microwave for 2 minutes for hot melty goodness). If any co-op volunteers/paid workers are reading this, it’s the Asian chick that always shows up in scrubs, fly sneakers or both! I adore the workers here! They always let me pack or special-order things in bulk(such as dried papaya or dried banana chips) so it’s cheaper than buying the pre-bagged goods! One star is missing because… –If I’m standing there in the sandwich line, please don’t act like you don’t see me :( –Please try to stay stocked up on mushrooms, soy cheese, pickled jalapenos(basically any crucial component of my spinach wrap) –Don’t throw the new volunteers into making wraps :(they always rip the wrap… –I love Devin the Dude but even I would prefer not to have«Broccoli & Cheese» blaring when I’m ordering lunch(chorus: Girl, this dick is so clean/This dick is so clean that you can boil it in some collard greens) Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention, their music selection is always something off the wall. Half the time I’m there, I’m asking for the title/artist. Last time was a remix by Deadmau5! :)
