G.W.’s Hickory Pit BBQ

AMAZING!!! By far some of the best BBQ that I have ever had. The chopped beef sandwich is phenomenal and the BBQ sauce used is the perfect touch to top it off. I would rather make the 30 minute drive from where i live for this BBQ than have anything local. Also, the burgers are HUGE and will not let you down!

Hickory pit never fails when it comes to good BBQ. My favorite to get Is the chopped beef sandwich with a side of fries. The meat is cooked and seasoned well with good BBQ sauce. Ive had the burgers before and they are huge!!! Good local spot for some consistently BBQ and burgers!

Delicious BBQ if you find yourself in or around Coldspring, (if you live near here, then you already know about it!). This place is a total dive with great BBQ. Lisa, who took over when her dad retired about five years ago, is a true pitmaster.
My sliced beef sandwich was overstuffed with succulent brisket so tender that the lady who served it had to use a spatula to put it on the bun. The bun was hot, which added to the overall deliciousness. The sauce is a semi-​sweet, tomato-​based version with a little kick to it — very good, and a perfect compliment to the BBQ. (I mixed ½ mayo and ½ sauce for the second half of my sandwich, converting it to a delectable mess).
The sausage was pretty good. The casing had a perfect «snap» to it, and the flavor was nice and rich. «Grind» is a matter of personal preference: Those who prefer fine ground meat will especially enjoy this sausage.
The burgers are supposed to be good, also, and rumor has it that Lisa will cook yours on the pit if she isn’t too busy (I will definitely be calling ahead to request this next time).
The ladies up front, Shelby and Theresa, were very pleasant and accommodating.
Remember, this place is a dive. The poor little A/​C unit has seen better days, but still somehow manages to offset the scorching summer temperature.
CAUTION: Be careful entering and exiting the «one-​size-​fits-​one» restroom, as there is an inexplicable hump of concrete you’ll have to negotiate.
One bit of advice: Other than for hand-​washing, non-​gymnast adults should plan to use a restroom elsewhere before or after getting their BBQ fix. Anyone other than small children — or guys who remain standing — will have to ride sidesaddle!
