The donuts are pretty fabulous. That’s all i know. Nothing else in the market looked very extraordinary.(Although looks can be deceiving, i suppose.) It’s worth a trip for the donuts alone. 12 for $ 9.

My blood sugar was running dangerously low and my bestie rushed me to the nearest place to find food. We saw Vera’s Fruit and Vegetable Market and went in. I apologized to Vera, who was by the register, for downing the orange juice I grabbed from the fridge before paying for it. She then saw that I was extremely pale and faint and immediately advised me to lay down. She lead me to a couch in the kitchen area and supplied me with free food and blankets. After a while, I started to get some color back in my face, she gave me excellent advice on ways to avoid low blood sugar situations and told me at length of how proud she was to be a great grandmother. As I was leaving the kitchen, I tried to pay her for the food and services she provided me. She refused it. My bestie and I left Vera’s with more hope in humanity. Vera’s selfless hospitality spoke lengths of the store she owned. The apple cider donuts she gave me were absolutely superb and you can taste the love and diligent work she puts in them. Highly recommended. I’ve never met more friendly staff than here. I am definitely coming back for the donuts and of course, for Vera.

All of the people who work here are incredibly friendly. The cider donuts are made fresh daily and are the best I’ve ever had. They offer plain, cinnamon sugar and powdered sugar. I stop in here any time I need to bring a treat to a party or get together. They offer a variety of gourmet goodies, fresh fruits and veggies, and seasonal plants/household items. Stop in! You’ll be happy you did!

I have to be honest — I was disappointed. Yes the staff is friendly but everything else fell flat for me… Their prices on the flowers/plants were quite expensive compared to where I normally shop(Home Depot), so I didn’t buy any. I did buy 3 Cinnamon Sugar Donuts at .85 per Donut. I was left disappointed with these too. They lacked flavor and left me wishing I had gone to Dunkin. :-/Also, $ 8 for 1 Dozen Donuts is outrageous. So glad I bought only 3 at $ 2.25 and not a whole dozen!

I really love this place. Vera, her son, and staff are simply amazing. The service personable service cannot beat. The produce section is small, but it is a great place to purchase local products. Quite frankly, sometimes I just don’t want to deal with the bigger markets and stores. The baked goods are also to die for! Highly recommend!

A Must! The most friendly and knowledgable place of business. Vera is superb and you’ll feel like you know her all of your life. Her son takes right after her with his mom’s enthusiasm, knowledge and fantastic personality. They have everything from the best and fresh fruits and vegetables, imported cheeses, pastas, donuts wow, the best sugar(apple cider) just like bkeries of yesteryear!!! The best in gardening! What a selection of flowers, hanging and potted, seeds, and lawn /yard decorations! Did I mention the price? The best prices around!!! You’ll love it! Pat & John

Everything here is fresh and delicious, the fruits and veggies, the Italian ice, the sauces, pasta, etc! I can’t believe it took me this long to go there, but I’ll be regular from now on! And the friendly family that owns and runs the market is a huge plus! :)

A terrific selection of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as some specialty items, there’s no reason to troll through the depressing produce isle at your local supermarket as long as Vera’s Philipstown Market is in business. Sure, some of the produce can be expensive, but the trade-off is that it’s fresh and yummy. No sad-looking fruits or depressed tomatoes allowed at this joint. No, sir! They also have a terrific selection of Italian food products, including brands of cookies that you’d be hard-pressed to find outside of Italy. There’s also a great but small selection of locally-made cheeses, dairy products and organic eggs, not to mention locally-raised organic chicken. It is quite possible to do most of your shopping here, provided that you are not a major carnivore. Granted, you aren’t going to be able to find Tide or paper products at this joint, but that’s why the corporate gods invented Target. Combined with the lovely gardening section — I loved the hanging plants — Vera’s Philipstown Market isn’t a bad place at all for something located in the middle of nowhere on Route 9. They don’t take credit cards(although there is an ATM on the premises for shoppers’ convenience), so grab some cash, pack your checkbook, and go get some fruits and veggies!

Vera’s Philipstown Fruit & Vegetable Market & Garden Center is a local tradition in Cold Spring. Besides the bounty of fresh fruits and often local seasonal veggies, they also have freshly made mozzarella, imported pastas, cheeses and other Italian delights, donuts made on premises, ice cream and delicious breads, just to name a few. In their gardening section, there are gardening needs from seeds to plants and flowers, mature flowers, pots, hanging baskets, tools, whew! Lots of stuff! And more too numerous to list! Please note that they are closed post Christmas and open again in early April.
