ughhhh… yeeeeah! this is by far the best drive up, hotdog, burger, french fries, americana place you can go to! We stopped there on our way back from CT to MA. I always hesitate when I see a drive up place like this because you never know… usually they are bad! BUTNOTSCOTTIES… we got fish fry,(cooked in the right temp oil, thank god!!), cheeseburger(perfection!!), hot dog(like 1 ½ feet long with grilled bun), fries, and did I mention the custard!!! This place was the bomb! Stop by if youre in the area and be yummed! Our whole family loved it! I heard someone ordering the ‘scotty dog’ on my way out… may have to make another trip to see what thats all about! THANKSSCOTTIES!

I’ve driven by here a number of times and last night we finally stopped. Well worth it! We tried a cup of salted caramel custard and it was yum! I don’t think the differences are huge, but it’s definately creamier than frozen yogurt or regular soft server. They had TONS of flavors! They also have burgers, dogs, sundae’s and make their own giant oreo cookie ice cream sandwiches. We’ll have to go again to try more items.

Love everything about the place. Favorite custard stop but I also love the chicken sandwich. Reasonably priced and great service.

Yum! I had Elephant Ears(peanut butter sauce and chocolate pieces over vanilla custard) – the best! Hubby had butter cream fresh out the chute, excellent. We’ll be back!

By far, the best ice cream shop in the Colchester, CT area. Awesome burgers, meat AND fish dogs, fries, etc. A must stop for anyone.

We really lucked out this weekend! finally got to Scotties the day before they close down for the season! This place is hard to find. on the outskirts of town… but truly worth using the GPS! My wife had their pumpkin pie frozen custard dish. i had a hot fudge sundae with crème d’menthe custard. decadent and delicious! enjoyed sitting under the umbrella covered picnic table on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. worth every calorie! When I say the lady who made my sundae. made it with love. i am telling you the truth! excellent experience. the guys at the next table seemed to be enjoying their foot long hot dogs. looked delicious. such a shame I’ll have to wait until next spring to try one.

Scottie’s Frozen Custard’s frozen custard treats are divine. The food is OK, but nothing special. However, if you are looking for dessert in Colchester, Scottie’s is the place to be. There are tons of options to choose from, but even basics like chocolate and vanilla are great.

For years, frozen custard was my father’s holy grail. Apparently, in the 50s and 60s, you could buy frozen custard everywhere in the U.S. It was the stuff childhood summers were made of. And then, it disappeared almost everywhere outside of Indiana and Wisconsin. Seriously, I saw a list in Smithsonian Magazine or something when I was a kid that listed the only remaining frozen custard places in America. And then, it came creeping back. My father tried some of the places that showed up in the Northeast and they were pretty good, but not holy grail good. In the meantime, he heard tell of this place called Scotties Frozen Custard in Colchester, which is on the opposite side of CT. About a month ago, I had a cake-tasting appointment in Haddam. My fiancé was overseas, so I brought my mom and sister along, and my mom, in turned, dragged my dad along, mostly so he would chauffer us for the hour long drive. We decided to reward him by stopping at Scottie’s one the way back – even in the midst of cake-induced sugar high. And Scottie’s is good. 1960s childhood good. There are also great daily specials of hand-packed quarts of select flavors for $ 6.

Love this place! Burgers, sweet potato fries, chili cheese fries, and custard are so good! I stop here every time I’m in town! Perfect place to sit out when the weather’s nice. Some people like a similar place called Harry’s, but I feel like this is more food for your money and the food is better. Try it!

Can’t vouch for the food but the custard was delish. I’m not usually a fan of frozen custard but I will definitely be back. Had the pumpkin pie and the chocolate and while I preferred the flavor of the pumpkin, both had a nice creamy texture — not too hard, no ice chunks and very smooth(minus the graham cracker bits in the pumpkin — nice touch). Way better than Rita’s frozen custard over in Rocky Hill which is actually kind of gross(hence my not really caring for frozen custard before now). I’m pretty bummed we just found this place shortly before they closed for the season but I’ll see you next year!

We first came here for the frozen custard, which we all have established, is amazing. Don’t wait for a custard craving to go there, though, because their dogs and burgers are bangin’, too. You want the vintage stand experience? Go to Harry’s across town. You want good, reasonably priced food? Go to Scottie’s.

Had stopped by here a while ago to try the frozen custard as it is not easy to find the real thing. It was very good and I’d go again. The chocolate was very thick, a litte icy and perhaps too cold. The flavor of the day was cherry cheesecake and it was excellent. Prices are very good. Location is a rural spot not too far from rt 2

Went to scotties for lunch today and tried their cheeseburger combo with fries and soda. For 6.95 its a great deal compaired to harrys with very little wait time. The burger was a good size and pretty tasty. The fries were good and fresh.

Scotties has the best frozen custard around. If you haven’t tried it you are surely missing out. Every time I go there I get a scottie dog which has sauerkraut chili and cheese. And for the ice-cream I get a turtle which has vanilla ice-cream with hot fudge carmel and pecans with whip cream. I f you haven’t been to Scotties yet YOUNEEDTOGO!!! :)

Love the custard. Classic vanilla is their best flavor in my opinion. I never get the add-in syrups but have enjoyed some of the flavors of the day. Food is good, and way better than Harry’s.

A very good frozen custard with generous servings. We had our Westie with us — she was a little miffed at a Scottie getting the billing, but she got over it when she got a taste! It was a solid dessert — and judging from the crowd in the gravel lot — Scotties enjoys a loyal following!

Let me start off by saying I came here solely for the frozen custard. Now, I’ve had my fair share of frozen custards, and I’d say this one ranks somewhere towards the middle(if not the middle-bottom). The custard here had good texture(save for the few little ice chunks I had), but it was served very cold and hard and therefore had precious little flavor. Also, I was disappointed to learn that they use fillers/emulsifiers in their custard. If I’m in the area again, maybe I’ll stop by, but I certainly won’t be making any pilgrimages…
