After our disenchantment with the dive«taco works», we went out in search of a reputable Mexican establishment that we could use as our go to Mexican restaurant. First of all, we like that it is a family restaurant and the owner is a very nice gentleman who has shown us on a map where he is from in Mexico and goes back regularly and maintains the authenticity of the dishes. The chips and salsa are absolutely five stars. The only reason for getting four stars here is because of a little bit of a lack of consistency between lunch and dinner. Dinner seems to be a little bit better because at lunch, we have had a couple of experiences that were three stars. All that being said, absolutely try the chips and salsa and do not be afraid to try the hot salsa!

Okay, maybe I’ve been spoiled by the other Mexican restaurants in my past but I’m not finding a «good one» in the area. The good stuff first, very friendly staff, very attentive and work hard to take care of you. Food and refills came out timely no problems with that staff. No wait on a Friday night, another positive. But with dining it comes down to the food. Food just didn’t taste all that good, sort of bland, nothing really special. Not bad but not good either. My wife thinks I’m ranking it too high. Restaurant is a bit dated and could use some TLC and tidied up a bit too. Overall, not horrible but misses the mark for us.

Food was very mundane or just not at all Mexican. Salsa was only decent thing. Service started off ok, but went very downhill. Do not recommend.

Disappointed that the chile relleno was flat and more like an omelette rather than a stuffed fresh pepper. Carne asada was sliced sirloin rather than marinated flank steak. Others in our party seemed pleased with their food. Service was very slow although well over half the tables were empty on a Friday evening.

They have great Mexican food, a bit salty. However, every time I go in there for lunch they mess up my order. I’ve been there 3 times for lunch and every time I ask for a bean and rice burrito, no cheese or meat. Every time I get a shredded beef burrito. I send it back then I get a bean and cheese burrito. Then I have to send that back because I can’t have dairy. I always feel bad and I hate sending back my food. I’ve been here several times for dinner and they never mess up my order if it’s 5 pm or later. It’s weird! Still a good restaurant, good prices and good food.

Nothing on the lunch special plate(a deep fried taco, cheese enchilada, rice & beans) tasted either fresh or close to «authentic» Mexican. $ 18 for two, just water. The place is OK and the service is great but the food, well, terrible. Not Recommended

Super nice little local restaurant. Being new to the area stopped based on reviews. Very pleasant atmosphere. Super quick service. Food very tasty. Loved the light and flaky taco salad shell. Will definitely eat here again. Thank you!

Really bad. Guacamole was liquid consistency, food was bad on all four of my families meals. When the waitress could only recommend 2 entrees out of the 30+ on the menu we should have left. Should have judged a book by the cover instead of Unilocal reviews.

This is your typical small Mexican restaurant. The food is good. The service is good. There is nothing really special about this place but it is worth going to. I had the enchiladas and tacos. Like I said the food is good. Go visit them when looking for Mexican food.

very disappointed in this place. The guacamole was more like bland pea soup and the beans and rice tasted like they had been boiling for hours in the same pot. No toilet paper in the ladies room, either. Big bummer… nice service though. Guess that’s a plus???

Traveling through the area and saw this place has high ratings. I am from Arizona and have consumed my fair share of Mexican food, and this place ranks right up there. I was a little nervous at first as it is a hole in the wall location, but the food and service were amazing. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. The food was delicious, I couldn’t get enough of the salsa let alone the meal. And be sure to check out their margaritas! Next time I pass through I will definitely be returning!

Went for the first time tonight and I can’t rate this anything less than a five. The service was friendly, fun, and fast. A refreshing change. The chips are the best and the salsa was great. My fajitas were great – savory grilled flavor with fresh tortillas. My wife liked her taco salad – above average. We’ve lived in CDA for 1.5 years and I wish I knew about this place before. We’ll definitely return.

Great food and friendly, courteous and prompt service! Try dishes in the traditional mexican section of the menu and you will not be disappointed. The service was very quick as well. Do not judge this place by its exterior. The interior is simple but we found the food to be much better than places we’ve eaten in bigger cities.

Came into town after driving for 12 hours so I was just trying to get something cheap and quick. This was one of the only places that was open so I figured«why not». I went in and it was one of the most pleasant experiences. I just ordered to go but they brought out some chips and water for me while I waited. And then before I could even finish the chips he put in two more bags of chips in with my food. I went back to the hotel and ate the food. It was good. If I ever come here again, I’d definitely go here again.

The food was absolutely wonderful, but was nothing compared to the compassion the owner showed us, and our children. They love their guests, and it truly shows. We were visiting from out of town, but when we come back, we’ll definitely give them our business again. Thank you very much!

OK Mexican food for Northern ID. I’m originally from Southern California where real good Mexican food is commonplace. It’s been difficult to find equivalent Mexican food in this part of the country. With that being said, Las Chavelas was one of the better Mexican restaurants I have found so far in Northern Idaho. Moreover, I thought the wait staff was friendly and their service was pretty fast. I would go back again.
