This is such a great diner. We’re new to the area since 2014(so, maybe we’re not newbies anymore), but we found the Pioneer, and it’s a must-go for breakfast. We’ve never eaten lunch here, but the breakfasts are great — eggs, bacon, pancakes, whatever — it’s all good. The place is clean and the servers very friendly and welcoming, as if you’re old friends. Can’t remember anything that’s been«off.» Just a cozy place to enjoy a really hearty breakfast.

They cut their own fries fresh and fry them to perfection. As tempting as breakfast sounded, I couldn’t turn down the lure of fresh french fries. And this place did not disappoint. There were not a lot of offerings for vegetarians, which is to be expected, but they had a grilled cheese that worked for me — but again, this visit was really about the fries. My dining companion opted for a burger which she gleefully reported to be well cooked and delicious. Again, those fries came along and we were in fried food heaven. Coincidentally, we landed there on Halloween and the staff were dressed up for the occasion in a variety of costumes. The restaurant was decked out in Halloween decorations and made for a fun, festive environment. This was amplified when staff gathered round and wished a coworker a happy birthday — cake and all. The staff was on point. Food came out quickly and accurately. Waitresses routinely stopped by to refill drinks and see if we needed anything else. The whole team worked to make sure that everyone was happy and well-fed. Note: They charge a fee for using a debit or credit card. The max they can charge for credit card use(and NOT debit cards) is 4%, though management here instituted a flat fee for all cards which may be problematic.

Great breakfast and service. Locals eat here and that’s always a good sign. They even had apple butter for my pancakes.

A hidden gem. We had a late breakfast off I-40 and found this clean, VERY friendly, home-style restaurant. I had a Western omelette with salsa on the side and our waitress brought both Tabasco & Texas Pete, after I asked for Jalapeños in my omelette(unfortunately, they had none). The omelette was huge and delicious, with HOT ingredients inside. Real grits, though I prefer cheddar – or better yet, Pepper Jack cheese – in mine over the slice of «plastic cheese» [my daughter’s term as a toddler for individually-packaged Kraft processed cheese] placed on top of my creamy grits. Perfectly toasted wheat bread, real butter, and my wife got pancakes with apple butter – a childhood favorite for her. Her scrambled eggs cooked to perfection, and 2 link sausages and 2 slices of bacon exactly right. Great food, great people, clean as a whistle, and SiriusXM classic country playing softly in the background. No 5 stars because of the plastic cheese, but that was the ONLY drawback. We shall return.

We ate lunch here & it was pretty good. Hubby had fried cod which he said was OK. I had stew beef which was dry. Good sides & cornbread. However the hamburgers looked fantastic & the breakfast menu looked good. We will come back & try other items on their menu.

Great food and generous portions for a reasonable price. The pancakes were everything I could have hoped for. This is a great place for a diner or home-cooking style meal. If you’re on the way through, drive past the fast food options and stop here for your meal pit stop instead. Tables comfortable seat four. You could probably add a fifth at the end of the table, but it’s not an ideal solution.
