Marbella Apartments

This place is a joke. My fiancé and I lived here for a little over a year, when my mom found out she had cancer. So I started spending days/​nights with her and eventually staying with her ²⁴⁄₇ caring for her. During this time Marbella had not «heard from us, or seen us» so «they thought we left and were not coming back»… But all of our payments were up to date, and my apartment was still full of my things. So when I did come home to my apartment, all of my things were gone. Clothes, (expensive clothes) jewelry, hair straighteners, products, makeup, shoes you name it– it was gone. So I go to the office and they said they thought we had «left» so they threw everything away. BUT OUR RENT WAS PAYED!!! So even if it was completely empty it is MY APARTMENT until I no longer pay rent!
At this point I am fuming and extremely upset!!! So I go to the dumpsters where I start digging through the trash in desperation– yes I know– where I do not find ANY of my clothes hair irons, etc. I find my birthday cards I’ve kept my whole life– ones that my now in HOSPICE mother had given me!!! I find my medical records from surgery, I find my personal paperwork and other items of such (that obviously the management couldn’t use or sell). Everything else they could use or sell was GONE. The manager that did all of this was named Brandi. It was the worst, most upsetting experience I have ever had with any business. I did not need to deal with this places BS while my mom was dying. I would not wish that place on my enemies.

The apartment complex itself is pretty nice, but there are some things to consider before you move here.
First, people leave the sidewalk gates propped open and management doesn’t do anything about it.
Second, I lived on the second floor, and since the person below griped about my «heels walking across the tile» above, I was asked to either keep my shoes off or keep quiet. Being a good neighbor, I moved my living room rug to the tile dining area. What a pain.
Third, when there was a stray cat roaming the complex, management called me to ask if it was my cat. What? I didn’t even have a cat. I never had seen a cat. But somehow they thought it must have been my cat that I was feeding at the downstairs neighbor’s door.
Most importantly, be aware that these people will rip you off when moving out. They charged me $ 550 of my deposit to «clean my carpet» when I had only lived there for seven months. They claimed I had «protein stains» in the carpet and it cost extra to clean the carpet. I didn’t have any spills, food, pets or any other stains on the carpet, but that’s what they claimed and I had no way to prove otherwise. In fact, the carpet wasn’t very clean when I moved in.
My apartment was so clean when I moved out the manager said «I wish all our tenants cleaned the way you did» and «you should be getting all but a hundred dollars back on your deposit.» I wonder now if they thought I actually had a cat (based on the complaint of a neighbor) and just charged me for that out of their own volition. Then it took three months to receive the remainder of my deposit back. What a rip off and an insult. I’m so disappointed in this place and the people who work there and Manco Abbott. Had I followed the previous Unilocal posts about these apartments, I wouldn’t have leased here and I wouldn’t have been out so much money. I should have listened. Good luck. Be careful here. If you’re considering these apartments, perhaps you should have a look at the apartments just to the south and east on Temperance Avenue.

I would not recommend renting an apartment at this location. Be very careful when moving in and moving out. Document and take photographs to prove the move-​in and move-​out condition. Also be sure to document any promised incentives and stipulations to their use.
