The Other Place

Came here with my usual set of friends after a horrible experience at Old Chicago the previous week. Unfortunately, little was done to make this our full-​time replacement. While we saw empty tables upon walking in, we were told there was a 15 minute wait, which really isn’t that big of a deal. Once we were started, each member of our party ordered something different. One ordered a pizza to be split, one ordered a sandwich, one ordered a sandwich to be shared, and I ordered a basket with fried goodies. The person who ordered the pizza also ordered an appetizer of fried mushrooms. This came out fairly quickly and the mushrooms were very large. I despise mushrooms so I can’t describe the taste, but size wise, they fall in between a button and a portabella. Then the wait for our food began. 30 minutes passed and nothing else had arrived, though our server mentioned that it should be done soon. At least 20 more minutes passed and food had not arrived and we discussed simply leaving. Shortly thereafter, a manager came out and profusely apologized for the long wait and stated she would be giving us 50 percent off our tickets. This is the only reason I gave a 3-​star review; our server was proactive before we could complain about the situation. The food was pretty good – the chicken tenders were crunchy and the housemade honey mustard had a nice balance of sweet and savory. The fries are crinkle-​cut and had a nice blend of black pepper and other spices (sea salt and garlic salt, I believe) on them. Food was cooked well; nothing was undercooked or burnt.
For those of you looking for a place to take a date and watch the game, I would skip this place. This isn’t the fault of the restaurant, but there were a lot of screaming, yelling kids that played together on a sports team that detracted from our experience as well. I imagine this restaurant is popular because it is rather large and has a menu that can suit everyone’s taste, but I found it aggravating to hear a bunch of 10 year olds scream lyrics to a song that I doubt they knew the true meaning of.

This is a go to for us when we are not sure where to go but want some good bar food! We have been many times for lunch or dinner and every time the food is really good and the service is good also. Their onion rings, cheeseballs, and breaded mushrooms are all homemade/​made with a homemade batter and they are fantastic! I am a sauce person and their honey mustard and ranch are homemade and amazing! I have had salads, pizza, chicken strips, pizza, and appetizers here and everything I have had is great! Its a great place to go to watch ballgames. They also have a great happy hour and drink specials during games. It’s always busy during games and I will say this place is a little on the loud side but thats what its about. Its a fun bar atmosphere with great food! They also have an outdoor patio for when it’s nice out however I have not sat outside yet. If you want to relax and have some good food then head to The OP!

Nice sports bar. Nice crowd, service, etc. Only wish the appetizer menu had something that was not «fried «.How about a pretzel with mustard or something? Usually, pretty crowded and a great place to watch the game and share a pizza with the kids.

Awesome food, everything was well seasoned! Drinks were good! No complaints here. Would definitely go back!

I wish I could give this place a better review because I have been to the original in Cedar Falls but this one just fell flat on it’s face. When we got there the hostess informed us we would have a table in about 30 minutes, we don’t mind waiting so we waited… an hour and a half later we had a table. The service is extremely disappointing. It felt like every time we asked our waitress for something it was a burden. When we received our food (after a long wait again) it was completely underwhelming. If I wanted crappy pizza at an overcrowded restaurant I could have gone to pizza hut. Would not recommend.

Stopped by the other night for some pizza and shrooms. The fried mushrooms are the best around and a very large porton for only $ 7. The pizza was cooked perfect and our waiter was attentive. My only reason to dock a star is because it is just so damn loud in there. We arrived around 9pm and the crowd had died down and you still could barely have a conversation at the table. I’ll be back!

The pizza and pizza bread was excellent. The service was great. The atmosphere was exceptional. When visiting Clive, IA make sure and swing by and check it out.

Christmas Eve stop. Great service & delicious pizza. We tried the grinder pizza & enjoyed it.
Our gluten free girl had a «gluten friendly» Philly cheesesteak pizza & said it was good. The edges of the gf pizza were burnt but thankfully the center was great.
Worth a visit.

College /​Sports Bar feel. Food is good and nice selection of beers and cocktails however the staff is not engaged. It was a challenge to get service. probably would have had another 2 drinks or so if they would of waited on us. It’s close to my house so I will give it another try.

I went to UNI. I felt like this was the restaurant and pizza I loved in CF but the atmosphere is a little cleaner and newer and a little more «grown up.»
This is a fun date. It’s loud and there’s TVs and high tops and the bar is great.
The pizzas are what you’re here for, though. My classic favorite is a sausage pizza (which I don’t order anywhere else), but I tell you what, I’ve tried the grinder pizza and the buffalo chicken pizza too and there are just too many good choices. Forego the sides, there’s nothing special about any of those, but don’t forget to order a pepsi with grenadine, and you are set.

What a nice place too stop for lunch. Very nice atmosphere nod great service. Only been too the one in Ames, I think the one in Ames has a better layout, and the Clive one has great service.

I tried the Cajun chicken lunch size salad today. It was pretty good, but on the smaller size (I know I got the lunch size, but this was almost side salad size). They also don’t do light ranch if you’re into that. The group next to us ordered pizza that looked pretty amazing, but I can’t speak for the taste. I’ll have to try it out soon! It is loud, so be prepared.

Great food! Fun atmosphere! The restaurant does get loud during sporting events, but a great place to stop by for lunch or after work!

I am a sucker for the OP. This one however did not please me. My favorite thing to get there is buffalo chicken pizza. They did not have that at this one. I got chicken strips instead and the breading literally fell off. The one in cedar falls is the best. The one in Waterloo is 2^nd runner up. It’s where my dad grew up so he takes us there a lot. But I’m only basing this off of one visit to the one in Des Moines.

My first visit to the restaurant, and it was a great experience, from the food to service. Also had great appetizers. Very friendly people! If you have not tried this place, go and enjoy yourself, plus outdoor dinning.

The atmosphere is a sports bar and the menu is appetizers, sandwiches, salads, and pizza. I tried the all meat supreme 9″ pizza. It was great! All kinds of meat plenty of cheese and not too much sauce. The 9″ was perfect for lunch. I would definitely try them again when I’m back in Des Moines

This is more of an «upscale» sports bar and grille, since it’s in the nice area of Clive/​West Des Moines near the business park area. Has a good look on the inside with TVs and a lot if seating.
For the food, pizza has just okay. The cheese was the best part, has a nice blend. Sauce was alright, and the crust I didn’t like to much, kinda bland and tough to me.
It was wing nite, for .59 cents bit a bad deal. Only issue was I had to get 13, wish I could get smaller portions. They do come on a plate of lettuce, yes big lettuce. I could do without that, wings don’t need to be fancy. But u guess the area calls for it? But the sauces were just okay, had the super hot and hot. Sauce wasn’t too spicy for me (I have a high tolerance), but overall flavor wasn’t there for me.
If you want a nice sports bar that isn’t a hole in wall, this is the spot.

Stopped in Monday evening for $.59 wings and $ 2.00 draws. Got a huge plate of very tasty wings and three draws and my bill was only $ 12.00. I can’t say enough on how good this place is.

Ok so I heard the pizza was good, but that was clearly and understatement. It was phenomenal!!!
When I got there the hostess was very nice and although I was sitting alone she allowed me to choose where I wanted to be seated.
My waitress was kool and very knowledgeable about favorites on the menu. I actually asked for a strawberry lemonade which they didn’t have. However the waitress did her best to accommodate it with a lemonade mixed with Grenadine. Hmmm and that was pretty good!
The pizza that I chose was a Philly Cheesesteak Pizza. It included perfectly cooked cheesesteak, mozzarella, onions, green peppers and sour cream!!! It was delicious. I see why they are known as the best pizza place in town! There were so many options of pizza to choose from; they even had a Taco pizza!!!
If ever in town again I’m going to have to stop by and indulge in another specialty pizza!
